    One of Nela’s greatest gifts as a dancer is her connection......with the music, with her fellow dancer (s), with the audience. She always seems totally present, perhaps because technically she IS so strong, so she can just let go and dance.

      You are so correct. And she is the closest in these ways to beloved Carla Fracci. And to beloved Fonteyn even if Nunez's technique is indeed incomparable. What great musicians these artists are, were, will always be. What gifts to all of us.❤️

    We have had a Ballerina staying with us during lockdown, and been given an idea of just how much effort goes into those apparently effortless movements. I think Marianela quite exquisite, and plainly very much in control and totally aware of the way her performance is seen, and to have been able to enjoy the Royal Ballet performances during this period, has been a wonder to me.
    They were all terrific, and with the glorious weather, which was very welcome, especially during Springtime, these performances really helped in what was often a trying time. It is to be hoped that things will return to some normality before too long, and the Royal Ballet be able to resume in full measure.

    Is it just me or are there several homages to George Balanchine's ballet _Apollo_ in this pas de deux? Both 2:21 (head in hands) and 2:36 (the upside-down split lift) remind me of iconic moments from the pas de deux of Apollo and Terpsichore. Robbins greatly admired Balanchine, and it certainly wouldn't be the first time he paid homage to his work…

    • @levondelite4072
      @levondelite4072 3 года назад +2

      Yes, I see the similarities. I’ve also seen images from Apollo show up in Balanchine’s later choreography. The galloping horse step appears in one of the segments of Jewels.
