Well the eldrazi will probably see some amount of combo potential. It may be good enough to be banned. But cranial ram is cranial plating/ATG on legs and theyve both been banned
What's the deck though?
@@nicholasbruce4124it’ll be a deck with similar power level and play patterns as moggwarts. That’s to say it will be a good deck that heavily rewards pilot skill but won’t take over a large meta share.

@@robertomacetti7069 but this is living weapon not for mirrodin so it's a 0/0 token with the living weapon where for mirrodin is a 2/2 token. The 0/0 would just die instantly if it didn't have a toughness boost.
Man wotc is still pretty lame, glad I made a vintage cube and am done with new crap they print.

In all honesty though,this isn't better than cranial plating, the instant speed equip on plating makes it extremely hard to deal with in the format.
It does already come with a creature tho, so its a clear side-grade
@@jdazzaniit's also ALWAYS an X/1 as a Living Germ. It costs 2 to equip and it can't be done at instant speed. So it isn't like it's hard to remove or defend against.
There's arguments to say it's better in the current meta, classic affinity already plays a lot of sac-draw effects, this plating is something your opp needs to answer asap, main board they won't have artifact destruction meaning they are forced to answer the germ into your sac effects causing 3x1 card advantage for the affinity player.
@@Eltharyon yeah,the way I play affinity, I'd value the instant speed equip more, but I can see an argument for ram being more of a problem in the meta.

I say it gets banned at the first banned and restricted announcement that comes up after its release. Kind of doubtful of a pre-ban.

At least it costs 4 mana to put it on your ornithopter. I can see Fling making a comeback with this, though. Also, typically the PFP takes their time with banning stuff. Even Chatterstorm took a while to get the hammer. Honestly, what would stop the whole "ban artifact lands vs the payoff" debate, is if they just printed some good efficient artifact removal for pauper. Like exile target artifact with Storm on it for 1 or 2 mana. It would at least make affinity consider dumping their hand on a single turn.
Love how they finally ban All that Glitters in popper to just bring a far worse one to the table in Rakdos. They nerf artifacts to bring it back to the top meta in better colors. Good job Wotc. Gavin pls bring this to up.
Of all the awful decisions WotC has made, not designing around pauper is one of the few things that shouldn't be held against them.
I don't really know if this is gonna get banned for a couple of reasons.
1.) Doesn't give toughness when compared to All That Glitters. The toughness is really important because it locks out a lot of the interaction your opponent can throw out at you on in Pauper.
2.) Also when comparing to All That Glitters is that this doesn't have the immediate board impact aspect. Instead of throwing it on say an Ornithopter and getting to immediately whack your opponent, your left with having to wait until the next turn to get to attack with the germ.
3.) When compared to Cranial Plating, not only does this have a higher minimum to equip but also just can't do the instant-speed shenanigans of Cranial Plating.
If the worst case scenario is that this is a really good top-deck and is good in an artifact tempo deck, I think that's fine. Though of course, I'm sure there's still a chance that it gets banned. Stranger things have happened.
This thing is so much better than AtG, it isnt even funny.
You get a free body with the equipment AND it is an equipment, which is significantly better than an aura. It sticks around after they kill your creature (or after you fling it), it does not get 2-for-1-ed with a simple removal spell.
This thing is utterly busted. AtG is a joke compared to Cranial Ram.

@@noneofyourbusiness3288it is certainly more resilient than all that glitters but it gives your opponent a full extra turn to find an answer. This does 0 damage the turn it’s played unless it is past turn 4. All that glitters might have already done its damage by then. So if it’s a late game powerhouse that seems fine
@@mccoyrj452 You can also play it and fling in the same turn. It is in rakdos, which is a great color combination for artifacts. Sure 8 inspectors is nice, but the kind of juice black and red have access too outperforms white by a lot. You would also rarely play AtG for "just 2" (because not having a counter-spell available is very risky), so really AtG isnt that much faster anyway.
Ram turn 2 is much stronger than AtG turn 2 if you ask me. Because Ram you can just play and scale up over the game without worrying of it getting killed, AtG is a finisher and much worse just as a thing to do. Unless you have a crazy start against a tapped-out opponent Ram >> AtG even early game.
Sorry this turned into a bit of a disorganized rant.
tldr: AtG may have a slightly higher ceiling than Ram, Ram has a way way higher floor and better color-pie. The average power of Ram is much higher.
@@noneofyourbusiness3288 I agree with basically all of that but the fact that it is slower does matter a ton. It’s the reason a lot of cards don’t get played because they are just a tick too slow despite being powerful effects in all formats. Sure you can fling this, but we are still talking 4 mana to play and fling, or equip and fling. That breaks even with All that Glitters in terms of mana efficiency and is less efficient than Cranial Plating was. My contention is that it attacks a touch slower and that will make it strong but not as ban worthy. If we are talking late game finishers, that seems perfectly fine and not at all ban worthy. I recognize it’s strong, just don’t think it’s as broken as it seems.
This does have haste, it’s the same tap out issue as ATG but worse… because you can still play ram and instantly equip it to another creature to bash face
So, on turn 4, you could spend 4 mana to equip it to an Ornithopter that was sitting out for a turn, that now has 3 Toughness and still dies to Bolt.
This also won’t be All that Glitters on turn 4 with counter backup. This turn 4 equip with no backup. That is much easier to deal with.
I understand it needing to be a common to fit into the pack design for draft; but man they should really evaluate that more for its effect on pauper. I am happy they said they are aware of it now; but with the new booster design for standard and then this it is quite the shift. Gardens would not have existed as a deck even a year ago. Pauper is basically experiencing the same thing as modern now and will continue to with this booster design.
With that said; I think this will be insanely good, but I don’t know if it’s going to be as good as cranial playing. Only activating at sorcery speed is a giant difference from plating. Playing was so good becuase you would swing in with a bunch of garbage and attach in combat. It was also in a format that still had agog and disciple of the vault.
With pick your poison and some of the hate that’s being printed alongside this; it’s every possible it will be good but kept in check.
Pauper wasn't ever a format that they even pretended to consider. It started as an MTGO option that people liked and so they made it official.

@@Xoulrath_ they do. Read the booster pack design change. They specifically stated the change to putting more removal at common would impact pauper and it was something they considered when making the change and would be mindful when designing cards. They do not have the pauper advisory panel participate in design; but pauper is on their radar when they make new cards.
@@pokedadsam9041 no, it isn't. Go watch th3 goddamned Gavin series. They do NOT go out of their way to change sets specifically for Pauper. Taking Pauper into consideration is NOT the same thing as designing for the format directly.

can we just appreciate for a moment that about half of the pauper banlist is directly against affinity but that deck just refuses to die?
With all due respect 2 things. I'm pretty sure that this card was designed and approved long before all that glitters was banned so designing this was in the head space of all that glitters was a good card to down shift. Also this is a living weapon, it makes a 0/0 so if it didn't want have the /+1 then it would just be a force of savagery (not sure if that would be better or worse, I'm not in the pauper sphere yet but interested what you think) basically all living weapons that I see have a toughness buff for that reason.
Basically ya probably get banned because it was too late to stop the card because they just banned all that glitters.

Playing devil’s advocate here……all that glitters was good because it was white and also boosted toughness as well. This card is in objectively worse colors and dies to bolt.
This looks strong but I’m unsure about a ban. It is slower than all that glitters and Cranial Plating. It costs 4 mana to do what AtG did for 2, what CP did for 3, and has 0 instant speed shenanigans. It does come with its own body but it is a weak body. That 1 mana difference is 1-2 turns in reality so this hits an ornithopter a turn probably too late. Now if it’s unanswered it will end a game fast there is no doubt. But I don’t see this as emergency ban worthy. This being slower really matters.
I will not deny that this one is strong to a potential level of pre-banning, but I will say that this one is much weaker than plating due to not having 1 equip, and no way to equip at instant speed.
I don't want to pre-ban it, but rather test the waters first.

Way too strong for a format that can't handle All That Glitters or Cranial Plating

Heres the thing its not actually going to be that fast of a ban. It's very good but its going to have the normal ban period. Pauper doesnt hve fast bans.

I think its good but i dont see it being banned. Color restricted to Rakdos. No instant speed equip. Dies to removal. Slower than cranial when trying to equip right away to a flyer.
I hope it doesnt last long. This feels like old atog affinity power. Cant wait to get this flung at me.

At the very least this seems pretty wild in Grixis affinity...but I'm not sure how good the deck is baseline cuz its been a while since I've engaged with pauper

They don't set rarity based on pauper, they balance for limited and let the PFP fix any issues with bans
They can’t for draft though. It wouldn’t make an archetype. They just need to pre-ban it.

Rarity usually doesn't necessarily equate power level. Rarity is used, generally, as a control for sealed environments like draft to keep too many of a certain card from being pulled in said environments. Especially when some cards are total buns in constructed by are REALLY decent in sealed/limited. The rarity doubles as a control lever for such environments like at pre-released and the like.

Just ban the Artifact Lands. It's time for them to finally go, they had WAY too much meta presence and it's proven time to time that the deck is a big problem.
If they ban the artifact lands, tons of decks would be unplayable (boros, kuldotha, affinity, nearly every deck that uses dispute etc.)and that'd hurt the meta WAY more than having to ban a new card every now and then. They'd destroy 1/3 of the meta decks.
@@malte54 I don't necessarily see a problem with this, because it would shake up the metagame, considering how and what kind of cards we are getting, that's the direction we go anyways.

It's not a "shake up", it's a destruction.
You'd remove the top3 aggro decks, which will result in a control / combo meta, while the combo decks would be tron decks. The meta would suck hard, every match would go to time.
Yo if we get this banned, can we get Sojourner's companion back wizards? Affinity has been having some hard times ever since the atog ban. Glitters brought it back up but now that that's gone, Affinity is gonna fall off again if this card get's hit.

Nah, it's not gonna do much:
1. It's fairly mana intensive at BR
2. It's 2 mana to equip at sorcery speed
3. All the red black decks are sac decks so their going to make use of this as a double sac effect if anything, not a buffer.
4. It's an ×/1 effect so it's pseudo fair

I would say it's prebanned, since it's an upgrade to an already banned card.
I don't play pauper, I barely play 1v1 formats and I can tell you: This card is NOT better than cranial plating.
If you have 3 attackers, the enemy has 3 blockers they are dead with cranial plating and just chump block your cranial ram. do I really need to explain to people why cranial plating is good?
No one is saying that's it's better that Cranial Plating. It just fits the same role.
@@thetimebinderbut it doesn’t. Cranial Plating moves at instant speed during combat. It is a similar role but it is not the same. There is no guaranteed hit with this without an opportunity for interaction. This is much easier to stop.

@@thetimebinder that’s a more similar card but everything about this is slower than All that Glitters. You don’t get to hit right away with an Ornithopter with countermagic backup, unless it is later than turn 4 which that’s the thing that I think makes this very strong but not ban worthy. For this to hit as hard as All that Glitters it has to be late game. It seems more susceptible to burn removal because it only gives +1 toughness, must be done at sorcery speed to equip again unlike Cranial Plating, and if you are relying in the germ it has summoning sickness. So comparatively it’s a full turn slower to swing than AtG and has less combat shenanigans than CP. this seems very powerful but more reasonable to deal with. A resolved AtG giggles at burn removal, this is still worried the entire time.

Don't know what this guy is talking about. It's not like the card also get's hexproof so it and anything it targets will die to removal. Only way this will get banned is if the people running Pauper lose to it too many times.
Are you in any way familiar with the format or what is currently on the banned list? Cranial Plating? All that Glitters? Did you think about it at all?
