I have actually been able to do this and I can tell you it does make a difference. Both are very good but sound wise the Korg Pa5x sounds fuller in many of its sounds than the Genos. The same can be said with many of the styles I was able to compare as well.
I agree that the comparison is incorrect. to compare correctly they must both have the same PA system. Otherwise it is obvious that disadvantages towards each other
@@alessandrolippolis2198 The best comparison would be to record the sounds on both keyboards as wav and then play them using the same PA system. When I play my Genos , using a semi-profession Focal Classic headphone, e.g. the tenor saxophone sounds different, much fuller. Moreover you can edit each sound. to improve it to your taste.
I don't mean to bash the GENOS, and I know that Yamaha actually make acoustic pianos, but it just seems to me that the Pa5x has more definition and realism to it. That's just me though. As well as the other sounds too, considering they are based off of their own past keyboards, like the KRONOS, Nautilus and I think the SV-1 as well.
Thank you for the advice...I was trying to show the different speakers at the same time as a real life 'this is what it sounds like...Thank you again Graham
Not all the people understand what you have done here, because there is a stupid obsession with the digital World. The sound you capture with the mic of your cam to me is by far the closest best example of what this 2 keyboards can do in real life. Regards Pd= I prefer the Korg.
Korg sounds more rich. It seems Korg samples have more atmosphere and depth in them. May be more mics used... I am not sure. But from what I hear, I would go with Korg.
The Korg sound better but,it's a 2022 machine...vs 2017 machine, so, imagine in 2017, the Genos was in advance but the principal thing too, it's rythme section and between this gap of time (2017vs2022) , what i listen on you tube about the Pa5x , didn't surprise me in positive way. Between that, thank you for your time and work!!!
You could make the same argument against the Genos in 2017 with its comparisons against the Korg PA4x. I honestly believe Korg and Yamaha purposefully do this to maximize sales.
I honestly don't think the technology is much different. When you think about it we went through COVID and I think otherwise the Korg pa5x would of been released in 2020.
First off thank you for the video comparison. I honestly feel that both of these are magnificent instruments. Being honest, I believe sound preference is so subjective, and even that with many people has been shown to be very fallible in blind sound tests. Perhaps looking at the features of each keyboard, and seeing what better suites the needs of each individual as a player would help define a better choice. In all honestly from a sound perspective, if I couldn't make decent music with either of these, the problem is me as a player. One thing that is a huge deal to me is the difference in price and honestly for me this would likely be the deciding factor. $1000 less for the the Pa5x is huge and I am honestly surprised Yamaha hasn't lowered its price to counter. This type of price difference really makes the decision for me.
I love the sounds and the richness of the Korg PA5X as the Yamaha is cut a little short for quality. I also think that the Speakers have a huge difference if you really listen. I bought from Technologic a set of Speakers with adjustable base and treble and volume for $100.00 same as the speakers for Yamaha. Why pay more right. LOL I also think it boils down to preference in what you like to hear. More Mello tones are easier on the ears.
Yamaha sounds like ROCK EQ - more spread/wider, studio sounding, deeper but slightly thinner Korg sounds like POP EQ - more front facing/concentrated, live sounding, shallower but slightly richer
I wish every single keyboard demo worked just like this on so many of them they talk and talk and talk and if you’re totally blind as I am, this is fantastic because I know which keyboard you are playing this is fantastic. I really wish people would do more demos with percussion and vocals choir and orchestral sounds. Thank you so so much that’s why I said just subscribe to this channel. Thank you very much.
In my humble opinion, finally the Korg Pa5x sounds are comparable to Yamaha Genos. Both sounds comparisons are apple-to-apple. Both are provided great sounds and they are unique on their own. We need both.

Hallo Herr Rimmer Ich habe heute ihr Video entdeckt. Auch wenn ich nur ein Viertel verstehen konnte ( ich komme aus Deutschland ) fand ich trotz alle dem Ihr Video klasse. Still a great sounds from Genos I mean half Korg and half Yamaha but I don't like the price for Yamaha which is still $6k till yet so PA5X for me good sounds and new technology plus $1k less.
Genos all day long, I just picked one up so I'm a bit biased. I didnt get the Yamaha speakers though, I got some high end full range units with an amp so your mileage may vary. Used to have a Korg M1 but Tyros to Genos, they're absolutley killer. Winner all day long.
As a Yamaha user I think he is sounds are similar with my sx600 but it’s more like it has some more quality and feature but korg is far great in my view
Lets face it I have owned Korg and now own Genos I think both much of a muchness A lot of people would not no difference or happy with both. Thanks for great demo. Les.
I am lucky enough to be able to have both of these instruments. One big difference is the keyboards used. Korg have used a semi weighted keyboard that might not suit every one. Yamaha's keyboard is considerably lighter and for the more senior player this can make a big difference regarding fatigue of the fingers. One big difference I found is in the Organ Simulator, where both instruments offer actual drawbars, percussion and leslie rotor simulations. My Pa4x wasn't very good at all regarding this area, and the Pa5x has seriously stepped it up to a better quality Hammond organ simulation. But in my opinion, the Genos blows away the korg big time here. Pa5x now offers a far wider selection of high quality Piano simulations, like Austrian Grand, Japanease Grand, Italian Grand, German Grand and many more. Yamahas Genos so offer many, but the main one remains their CFX Concert Grand. And as of 2023, I know Yamaha have created a better sample of this CFX Concert Grand which is included in their latest CSP Piano Range, Plus Yamaha have their Bösendorfer sampled Paino which isn't included in the Genos. I would also point out the obvious, in that the Genos is several years old now, being compared to the brand new Korg Pa5x released end of 2022. Consider what Yamaha is going to release in response to the Pa5x, maybe later this 2023. I look forward to a comparison of a new Genos, to the Pa5x in the near future.
I think all the voices and sounds are nearly the same quality. It depends on what you prefer. If you prefer pure workstation with lots of editing and more effects, I think PA 5x wins for this, especially with the first 88-key arranger that supports aftertouch and ribbon controller. If you just enjoy the sound-only, just pick Genos (or CVP 809 if you want the 88-key version).
The Yamaha has impressive samples without doubt however, when it comes to the depth at which you are able to modify styles, sounds and effects, the Korg (PA4x in my case) is a professional instrument with limitless possibilities. I will not be purchasing a PA5x as I decided to purchase a Kurzweil K2700 for use as a PA4x Master Keyboard and MIDI Controller. In order to have complete control of every PA4x parameter to be controlled remotely, I'm utilizing a Novation Launohpad X with it's custom mode for PC Changes to the PA4x. This will allow me the use of the incredible sound library of the K2700 as well as the vast array of VST2/3 Plugins I use via Ableton Live 11 Suite. The only instrument family which is somewhat lacking in my opinion on both the Yamaha and Korg are the Guitars, Acoustic and Electric. For this reason I employ vir2's Electri6ity, Acousti6 as well as MusicLabs Real Guitars and drive them in real-time via the Korg PA4x Guitar Mode in the styles section. When the need arises and no suitable rhythm guitar is achievable I defer to MIDI Instruments like NI Electric Sunburst, Vintage Electric or Strum Acoustics with their real time chord decoding. For passages needing realistic guitars w/o the need of Korg's Guitar Mode, Vir2's Electri6ity offers realism beyond belief. I've recently moved platforms to the new MacBook M1 Max w/32 gbyte of memory and 11.2 Ventura OS. This new Apple SoC (System on a Chip) is so powerful and latency free that even 100 armed midi instrument channels add no noticeable latency , clipping or any unwanted artifact. Before investing in a new GENOS or PA5x I strongly recommend looking at some of these options as it gives you flexibility beyond belief.
Honestly though don’t think it would matter much if you run them through filters for the korg or Yamaha. But as for base sounds the korg has more presence.
The Korg PA5X sounds have realism in them whereas the Genos sounds like electronic/DSP encoded sound. Maybe it is just me, but from the demo I felt the Korg PA5X definitely sounds far superior. The sounds are full-bodied in the PA5X; however on the Genos the sounds are impressive, with the added reverb and other stuff it sounds artificial.
For a long time I doubted whether I should trade in my Genos for a Korg. Thanks to your video I now know for sure. I keep my Genos. 👍 The instruments were sampled on the Genos, I wonder if this was also done on the Korg. It sounds less natural in my opinion.
The Yamaha shined in the classical guitar sounds. But overall I think the Korg had a richness that is just amazing. But again, these aren’t the same sound systems. Should have ran them through studio monitors of the same make.
The sound of the Yamaha is better, open and bright.. But the Korg is dark and nasally, Seems that they have been wrong setting equalizer for all the sounds.
Thank you for great presentation. They both good. I have PA 5x 76. Nice love it. But genos on some instruments more natural. If I could listen to more sounds.
Both are great keyboards. It's a matter of choice and preference. But Korg has been know for their sounds. I also heard Yamaha actually owns 51% in Korg (have not verified it). But they keep the companies separate and technologies apart for good reason. Both are both reliable Japanese made keyboards.
Korg sounds fresher to me... is younger... but: It's maybe because not recorded directly by a automixer - that would have been better (3 Inputs: Genos, PA5X and you) ... maybe next time - but very nice comparision! Compliment!
In my opinion........the Korg sounds better, more realistic when playing guitar, sax etc. Yamaha almost a thinner, tinny? sound at times. If you weren't comparing then the Yamaha would sound pretty good but when put up against the Korg......no contest.
Thanks for your effort to showing this comparison 👏. ❤, Actually, due to the different amplifiers and speakers, maybe it could be a little hard to compare. When there is the possibility that both of them connect to one sound system, I think it could give us a better horizon to compare them. Thanks for sharing this valuable video clip 🎉.
Although I'm always leaning towards Yamaha keyboards, in this case I will go with Korg, no question. As a pianist, I appreciate that Korg comes with 88 keys. That been said, none of them are worth over 5k us, In my opinion; But they both great companion for songwriting, which is how I will use them if I could afford them. The real test of sound will come when recording them, on a DAW of your preference and see what comes out it. I had keyboard that sounded great with their included speaker but sounded terrible on a DAW. Also I do not see anybody expending that kind of money to have any of these keyboard in a living room without getting something in return, unless money is not an issue.
Still not convinced the acoustic pianos in the 5X are any better than their predecessor products (ugh). Korg 800/3X/4X , as much as I'd love to move up for everything else. Love my 4X.
Maybe I am biased (ok I am biased) but to me the Korg wins hands down. But I do agree with New Deal, put your best monitors on them and rerun it. Maybe if could change my mind....maybe? well? ok maybe it could :)
Sorry, but is is not a neutral comparison, since you have different position of the keyboard so the acoustics in the room is different for the keyboards. A good comparison should be to record the voices to wav on each keyboard and then play back these wavs through the same audio system.
I would like to have them both. The Genos is best at piano sounds, the Korg at Electric Piano and warm strings, the Genos again at tenor sax, Oh my! Would love to hear the two against the Ketron SD9.
Basing on what I heard with SD9 against the Genos, I think many of the sounds would be stronger on the Ketron. I know sounds are subjective, but those blind sound preference tests ring so loudly.
Danger! Watching this video will give you severe GAS. I’m a guitar player and don’t know my way at all around a keyboard but, I still want the damn thing. I just do! Sounds glorious!
Nice comparison demo. I am generally partial to YAMAHA (I have a CSP-170), but even recognizing this bias, I would say that the Genos edges out the Korg. To me, perhaps skewed by my bias, Genos sounds more open, clear, upfront, and a bit more realistic, while the Korg seems to be playing in an echo chamber -- a bit muffled. But hard to get a real sense from a RUclips video. Amortized over 5 to 10 years, the price difference is probably negligible. More important than this 😉price gap is how well the instrument integrates with the player -- touch, response, resonance, etc -- which values can only be assessed by personally auditioning the instruments; however; your demo gives a pretty good hint at which direction I would lean. Another consideration: if the target piano is, say, the CVP-809, Genos as an intermediate or portable solution, makes sense -- create at home and take creation on the road ... or create on a Genos until ready to accept the CVP. By the way, I still enjoy replaying your performances on Britain's Got Talent from several years ago! Are you now married to the girl to which you sold an organ?😄😉
The Korg PA5X and Yamaha Genos are both top of the range and great keyboards as you would expect - difficullt choice! & yes I am still married to 'My Manda' - All the best Graham
There's a big difference in the rotary Leslie sounds - the Yamaha SWITCHES from slow to fast and back, whereas the Korg accelerates and decelerates like a real Leslie cabinet.
Argh! I’m trying to decide between the two as a keys player. I was going to go with the pa5x76 but now I’m like hmmm the Genos, although for the money I think I might want a newer instrument and the Genos 2 will prob be insanely expensive given the original has held its value!
Both are great instruments but the main reason that I, as a pro would buy a Korg over a Yamaha is the transition from a previous sets which is too much work too try another brand, also Korg is too flexible as opposed to Yamaha although they are slowly getting there.
I quess the Korg has a larger speaker system so it does sound fuller. A fairer comparison of instrument sound qualites would be to put both instruments thru the same exact speaker system.
Rimmers Music I have used the speakers they recommend from the manufacturer to try to give everyone a good idea and fair comparison. Maybe I should do another one from direct outputs too..Kindest regards Graham
Are we hearing both through their different sound amplification systems? Or is the sound we hear coming directly from the line-out of both? The sound amplification system of both are different and that would not be a true comparison. Thank you for your show.
They are both through their recommended speakers, the Yamaha is through its Yamaha GNS speakers that you can see attached with the sub on the floor and the Korg is through its Korg PAAS soundboard attached at the back... using a Samsung phone to give a real representation of how it actually sounds. All the best Graham
@@RimmersMusicVideo Is it possible then to connect the Yamaha sound system to the Korg and the Korg one to the Yamaha? I'm sure the Yamaha sound system has more treble and goes lower in the bass area due to its satellite speakers and sub woofer technology whilst the Korg's system is totally a different technology. Isn't it possible to use one sound system for both Yamaha and Korg through a mixer?
Its the camera not the keyboard, something to do with the frame rate its been recorded in, sorry. The lights do not flicker at all. Kindest regards Graham
The Roland EA7 doesn't hold up to either of them. I came from one and wouldn't recommend it over either of them, or the Tyros 5 or Korg Pa4X for that matter.
Yamaha is still the best compare to other digital pianos. I played for 30 years still yamaha is the best. Both of them are great Korg just a slightly deffer than yamaha. Still these two machines are great.

On your experience witch one do you recommend for quality and what's the difference in cost to buy each one .much appreciated thanks bryan
Great video ! Thank you !!❤
Korg sounds fresher to me... is younger... but: It's maybe because not recorded directly by a automixer - that would have been better (3 Inputs: Genos, PA5X and you) ... maybe next time - but very nice comparision! Compliment!
Graham I remember seeing you on BGT a long time ago you were hilarious !!!!!
In my opinion........the Korg sounds better, more realistic when playing guitar, sax etc. Yamaha almost a thinner, tinny? sound at times. If you weren't comparing then the Yamaha would sound pretty good but when put up against the Korg......no contest.
great test. Korg is softer, Yamaha is sonorous. But maybe it's the acoustics.
Thank you, I'm new to learning keyboard but this was great. :) X
GENOS for me 👌
Excellent review 👍
Thank you.. :)
Thanks for your effort to showing this comparison 👏. ❤,
Actually, due to the different amplifiers and speakers, maybe it could be a little hard to compare. When there is the possibility that both of them connect to one sound system, I think it could give us a better horizon to compare them.
Thanks for sharing this valuable video clip 🎉.
Both are great. Sometimes it seems to sound better yamaha and other times korg...
Nice comparison 👍🏻
Great Comparison!!
Also
I do not see anybody expending that kind of money to have any of these keyboard in a living room without getting something in return, unless money is not an issue.
Yamaha Genos sigue siendo el mejor en pianos y guitarras
tinny
Although both arranger Genos is an older production, their voice and manners are better. My favorites are Genos and Psr Sx900.
I think Korg does better. To each his own.
Always see Korg on gigs or videos never Yamaha.
The Genos is more of a home user and easier to understand the database.
I find Korg is more user-friendly.
Nice and professional video tk,s
Still not convinced the acoustic pianos in the 5X are any better than their predecessor products (ugh). Korg 800/3X/4X , as much as I'd love to move up for everything else. Love my 4X.
The strings on the Korn 7:07 sound so much like a string ensemble!
The korg, by far.
My humble and honour opinion is Korg
And Yamaha is good ....
@@RimmersMusicVideo Great!!!
and I also remember this 2012 Britanny Got Talent in which you play.sand "la bamba"....
Agree but the genos is way overpriced for what it is
@@cheery-hex Absolutely agree the Genos is way overpriced for what it is.
There's a big difference in the rotary Leslie sounds - the Yamaha SWITCHES from slow to fast and back, whereas the Korg accelerates and decelerates like a real Leslie cabinet.
What type of external speakers are those? Thxs
Argh! I’m trying to decide between the two as a keys player. I was going to go with the pa5x76 but now I’m like hmmm the Genos, although for the money I think I might want a newer instrument and the Genos 2 will prob be insanely expensive given the original has held its value!
Great sharing dear friend . Thank you
I listened your vidéo, and clearly, I think that this time, Yamaha is iuperioR to Korg.
Rimmers Music
I have used the speakers they recommend from the manufacturer to try to give everyone a good idea and fair comparison. Maybe I should do another one from direct outputs too..Kindest regards Graham
@@RimmersMusicVideo That would be great if you could do that, Graham!
I think yamaha genos has a open sound where as the korg has kind off like in sound more dry sound
How do you turn the flashing lights off, they would drive me crazy?
They are not flashing in rel life, its the shutter speed of the camera I think, the lights are static. Kindest regards Graham
I wanted to say the same thing!
I don't care about pianos im just glad my boy graham doing well
Hey Rimmers Msuic, could I stop the flickering lights into a permanent light on the PA5x? It makes me crazy watching it. Thanks
Its the camera not the keyboard, something to do with the frame rate its been recorded in, sorry. The lights do not flicker at all. Kindest regards Graham
Korg all the way, sounds more realistic!
Yamaha electric ,KORG ,natural !!!
You were in BGT right???
Good. Bt i realised that voices in genos are brighter than thoz in korg
I need this keyboard from myanmar
Great comparison. But can anybody tell me the name of the song @ 4:32 please? Thanks in advance
Hi there. It's called Classical Gas.
what is better for you korg or yamaha ?
What kind of speakers are on the Yamaha? I want to get some
They are built by Yamaha for the Genos keyboard, here is a link for you www.rimmersmusic.co.uk/yamaha-genos-t2216 Kindest regards Graham
korg pa5x the one and only 👍💪👏👏👏👏🤚😍 thats all
The Korg PA5X has more "Warm sounds" than the Yamaha like the "Flat sounds" - need lite filter editing and more delay factor
Clarity on Genos strings are much better.
Wat een leuke demo voor mijn komt de korg er toch beter uit
Being Japanese...the Yamaha will still be going strong long before the others start to come apart.
Is this the guy from AGT or BGT? he's funny and talented
i love this guy :)
The Korg sounds kills. Much more realistic
In this case, I would go for the KORG. It's a pity that you don't have either Roland BK9 or EA7 to get a better comparison. Btw, thanks!
Can I get real piano sound for korg pa700 please
I don’t care what anyone says but Yamaha sounds Always been and always be the best sounds of any Keyboard and Especially compared with Korg Pa5x don’t get me wrong PA5X is Amazing Keyboard but it still can’t be compared with Yamaha Genos that’s my personal opinion and if you pay attention closely to the sounds Yamaha still blows Korg out of water the sounds on Yamaha Genos is so realistic and natural compare with PA5X
For me Yamaha genos
for a machine 2022 compared to a machine 2017.. its not better or blown away. Genos sounds better in most what I can hear.
