- Oldest market in Novi Sad, Serbia...near Belgrade, Serbia. Had a ton of Serbian food as well as VERY friendly sellers! Loved it and HIGHLY recommended. I think anyone can have a blast shopping in these types of markets.
Had a ton of fun trying new cheese.
Thanks for watching!
One thing I was impressed with the most in this video is the people, sales person. All honest and helpful. Good stuff Evan!
Thanks. They are lovely. lol There aren't any scammers in Serbia besides some taxi drivers.
The girl on 1:55 is Đuđa Šatara, working there for 26 years, very successfully. We all love her, she is a little bit of a celebrity in Novi Sad.
She's very nice. very likeable
I'm also a bread guy. Damn, I love pastry so much, doesn't help my fitness at all. Btw, that pečenica at 5:00 was probably the best of them all. You should've try that :)
Oh man, pastry is SOOO amazing! best thing on earth! If only they were healthier for us lol. and i should've listened to that man about the pečenica! It didn't look that good in the moment.
Thing is when you going for food market you've to be there early, and genuinely home made products are way better than anything similar from big supermarkets
Yep. Home made ones are 100x better!
Oh no on 6:48 that was insane eat prsuta must thin sliced.
ya, i didn't know about that lol

@@EvanRamani believe me good pršuta 11/10
@@Djaperoni looks amazing and complicated to make.
Cool videos man, you kinda remind me of baja mali knindza wearing that cross too😀👊
Thank you! Googled baja mali knindza and he looks like a pimp haha.
@@EvanRamani He is (was?) singer from 90s era.. Most of his songs are about big serbian nation and how we fight with croats to take our land back.. Typical war exploitation to gain some benefits.
@@momirkoo oh man, spreading hate...smh. He's no pimp lol.
@@EvanRamani He changed the style of his songs a bit after the nineties, but, in general, I'm ashamed of it. He abuses war, he abuses folk music to make money. Today, he sings patriotic songs, courting nationalists and people who lost everything in the shit of the 90s. They find comfort through his songs and he makes good money on it ..
@@momirkoo Talking about it or singing is much better than turning your head away, the only express bad wishes he said in some song was against mujahediins, he actally was talking about real mujahediins including real arab alqaida ones who were there doing warcrimes against Serb civilians... but hey "it's uncultured" so we should shut up, right?
fyi that sausage (klbasica) you bought is eaten cut up into thin slices with cheese, other sliced meats and pickled veggies. and that big tub of brown deep fried pieces at the meat stand is fried pork fat eaten with bread usually
I like the food market videos, I have no idea why there aren't more out there.
I give you credit for embracing the culture and having no fear to film. Ive been living here for 2 years now and it is such a culture shock thankfully i married a serb so its not as difficult. If you want to taste some fantastic dairy products you must make a trip to Zlatibor. the Kajmak is so good and the dried meat is some of the best in all of serbia! If you are looking for fantastic BBQ i highly recommend a trip to mladenovac but you need to make a reservation to eat because the best places are always packed! Also you are almost correct on pronouncing burek its almost like when you say it fast "boar-rik" not rock
2 years! Awesome! Ya, marrying a Serb would def make the learning process a lot faster lol. Thank you so much for the recommendations! Next time I'm in Serbia i guess lol. I'm in Ukraine right now. Loving it here but not many speak English. Nothing wrong with that...they have their own language...it's just a bummer for me lol.
I hope you enjoy your time there!! :) have you considered one of those translator devices? They arent perfect but they are SO HELPFUL! :) A bit expensive but worth it if you want to understand people along your travels:) stay safe out there and enjoy!
I went and got cheese from the same exact lady in the same booth after watching this video, she was super nice, thanks!
That is badass! She seemed like an expert! Nice lady!
@@EvanRamani yea never had Mozzarella this good in my life
@@moonlightanalytics4941 Serbia has the best sausages too . just gotta get the right ones.
@@EvanRamani for sure i believe you, Serbia's food is generally some of the best I've ever had, overall, almost everything I've tried here has been at least 8/10
Can't wait to try cheese!
There is no such a thing as the best this or that, it all depends on your preferences. Burek could be more flakie, or crusty, more or less greasy, with cheese, with meat, mushrooms; the same holds for all bakery products, cheeses, cured sorts of meat ... Someone will prefer this, someone else that. If you want to know the ingredients, go to a good supermarket and you will find a huge range of different products, standardized, with all needed info. If you prefer markets and home-made products you need to gain experience and develop your own taste and preferences. And, yes, a good goat cheese is really good, and on average 50% more expensive than the cow one.
Is it safe for solo travellers & any risk of walking alone late nights??
Plz honest & true feedbacks.
Tnkx
it is very safe for solo traveler. There are so many people out every night, especially in Novi Sad. Just use common sense and don't go into any allies i guess. Otherwise, i would say it is very safe in the date and night. Serbia is very nice! I don't know how it is outside the city center though. My experience is limited to city centers. But, every city i've been to in Serbia was amazing. Even the smaller ones. Have fun! Try the food in the local markets. it is amazing!
@@EvanRamani tnkx
You're gonna make curb-eating popular in Serbia 😂 Strange how you didn't find people who spoke better English, albeit the cheese vendor told you she only had Russian in school. The first sausage you had is named kulen, it's a mix of dried meats, fats, ton of herbs and spices, one of the best things you can find here and most of it comes with a kick. The second one, I believe, was smoked neck, but couldn't get a good view to tell you for sure. You usually only eat it when it's sliced really thin, with some bread and cheese, although I'm not really a fan.
Curb eating is fun lol. The first sausage is great! Tastes better when the sausage is bigger lol. This one was a bit skinny. I didn't like the second meat. But, there are so many different things to try in Serbia! I really didn't expect that.
I think the first sausage looks like it has a lot of paprika and garlic maybe similar to chorizo in America.
@@frostflower5555 Yupp, both are present in kulen. Albeit the makers use different mixtures of herbs for every "batch" so it never tastes exactly the same, but the dominant flavor is present anywhere you find that specific sausage.
@@EvanRamani You haven't even really scratch the surface because some places like Zlatibor have their own unique stuff and flavors which can only be found there.
Any of you can give me exacly localization this market?
It is open daily?
There are two of them. idk the exact address but ask ppl there. there is one that is active daiily and this one is active on a specific day. I think Wed. Not sure. have a blast!
Guzel 🌞👋👍👏🇷🇸
thank you :)
👍👍👍💪💪💪💪
Man tell you on 5:20 good prsuta you take sosage hahahah
Should've listened to the guy! lol
Me be like:
Ayy i saw my grandpa
Not really
But he goes to the *riblja pijaca*
Every day!
Selam nasılsın süper olmuş elinize sağlık tşkler
Thanks. love you too lol. not sure if google translate got this right. :D
@@EvanRamani He probably thinks that you are turk too, based on your surname :)
2:27 I don't think that was mozzarella cheese. Could be Kachkavalj :) Typical Balkan semi-hard cheese originating in Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria, probably named after the nomadic Latin speaking Vlachs as one theory.
Not sure, she did say mozzarella. Idk but it was delicious! :)
The problem I have when I visit Serbia is i all ways come home fatter :D I just eat so much. Way more than what I need.
Some of the best food ever is there!
Evan, you are savage .After buying food,go to your home, spread everything on the kitchen table including your camera and taste and evaluate as a gentleman. You are always rushing
Nothing wrong with trying things out on the street. Plus, I tried one thing on the street, the meats. The cheese was sampled with the seller.
@@EvanRamani just saying... you need to have some system in your chaos, not too much, just a little bit
@@kofesecer6979 True. Thanks for the tip!
@@EvanRamani I cheer for your channel, you are definitely most interesting tourist in Serbia at the moment...
@@kofesecer6979 Thank you. Really appreciate it! :)
8:12 it is not a pancake, it is cake, wee call it grandmas cake, italians has their name for it, rest of Europe call it waffle. But yep, u can use it instead of pancakes.
I should've tried it. :( looks amazin
@@EvanRamani Italian word for that cake is PANINI,if i am not wrong?. It is famous word in the world. This cake is the most popular in Belgium i think?. We make it in almost every house for special days, hollidays and for weekend sometimes. My recomendation is not that cake, my recomendation is two cakes: URMASHICE and TULUMBE. Both are bosnian cakes, actually it is turkish cakes accepted in Bosnia as traditioanl sweets. You can find it in every serbian traditional restaurant or beter in pastry-shop, sweet store ??? i do not know how to write in english. Basicaly, restaurants where is only sweets on menu. Serbian name is POSLASTICHARNICA.
You know, before this "urbanisation", all Serbs were required to know how to make cheeses, how to make smoked meat so it does not spoil, also to keep and feed some cows and sheep for milk and also as a way to survive if famine hits and grain does not grow. We now are just idiots, at least I know I am one...
haha. I'm one too. jk you're not an idiot. You're surrounding yourself with people who know how to do that! That's smart ;) lol
🥩🔥kobasica ide na roštilj
Dude don't trigger people from Novi Sad (and that is not hard) with saying they are basically a smaller town next to Belgrade. Just tell them they are Athens of Serbia bla bla bla
Novi Sad is cool but i liked some of the other Serbian cities more.
@@EvanRamani Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš are cities. Other places are towns. More by spirit then population
Must bay fresh tomato, bread, with that meet, and sharp knife 🔪😉 to slice thin.
And that is not day for that market, if I remember it's wensday and Saturday.
Try to go fruska Gora mountain, I'm there all year beekeeping 👍
You are fany gay with that check it out... 😁
Thanks Andro. fruska Gora mountain sounds nice but i'm not really a nature guy. I like to be around the people. lol. Looks amazing on google though. and i do say check it out a lot haha
guy! not gay... :)
@@momirkoo haha! i had no idea he meant guy. I was like...ok, Andro thinks i'm a gay i guess. haha
@@EvanRamani No, his english is just not perfect. Neither mine too but I manage somehow. A lot of people here make mistakes in writing the words "guy" and "gay". A friend buried me like that once. He introduced me to the girls in chat channel on the internet as a “good gay” (thinking as "good guy"). I wanted to kill him later, hahaha. Although, who knows? Maybe he really meant exactly what he wrote.
@@momirkoo u a dont blame me 😜😩
I don't use eng everyday
Maaan slice that meat in small pieces!!!!! :))!!!!!
I didn't have a knife lol
Language barrier is massive, especially with older population, youth can speak very well if not they can understand pretty good if not even perfect. Local speaking
I don't usually mind it but man, getting information about the pcr test and scheduling it was not easy or fun! lol The process took HOURS but got it done :). Older people here don't need English. They speak Serbian. I should've learned some Serbian. It's not the easiest language though lol
@@EvanRamani You should just go to google or msn translate.
@@EvanRamani i told you before. For specific tasks like pcr test, its much better to ask some of your serbian friends to help you.. Like that girl from one of your first videos... English is taught in schools here and people are exposed to English through movies and music a lot (they can't speak but they can understand). Nevertheless, the language is not obligatory and people are not obliged to know it in order to make it easier for tourists. Tourists can rely on luck (to encounter people who know English), google translate, friends from serbia or pantomime :)
@@frostflower5555 Ya, i do. Some of the struggle was on the phone though. Not a problem though. I got help :)
@@momirkoo I know. I got help. Would'nt have been able to get it done without help. I don't expect Serbians to speak English. This is Serbia...all they have to know is Serbian. :)
