    We had such a great time in Novi Sad! We always love checking out cities other than the capital of a country. Novi Sad seemed quite a lot different than Belgrade. In next week's video we'll be checking out Subotica. We are also planning on coming back to Serbia and other Balkan countries in the summer. We'll probably visit mostly the south, but let us know in the comments where we need to visit and what we need to eat! 😊 Thanks for watching! Hvala! 🙂 - Brandon & Anja

Poštujemo sve vere i nacije. 2 godine unazad doselio se veliki broj Rusa i Ukrajinaca koji normalno žive i rade. Hvala na odlicnom videu. Znam engleski, ali lakse mi je napisati na mom jeziku. Ps. If you ad ajvar and kajmak to anything it instantly becomes delicious.
    You people are legit! You understand our food. :D
    I mean, you figured why McDonalds is extremely irrelevant here - you can find pljeskavica at every corner. Many foreigners completely miss the point and go straight to Mc. Huuuuge mistake.
    For good rakija - this needs to be homemade. Those that are sold in bars and restaurants are rarely quality ones. You need to know people...
    Thank you for great video and keep up the good work. Wellcome! :)

    • @wherearewe-yt
      @wherearewe-yt  9 месяцев назад +5

      It's true. Ajvar and Kaymak are so good and we like putting it on absolute everything. We actually bought some from the grocery store in Serbia and brought it home but we already ate it all 😂.
      The rakija at the restaurant in the video was actually supposed to be homemade. At least that's what the menu said. It was the best one we had, but maybe it was better because we actually drank it slowly like you're supposed to since a lot of people told us we did it wrong in our other video 😅
      Thanks so much for watching 😊

    • @milanmilic9282
      @milanmilic9282 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@wherearewe-ytAs I already said - you understand significance of kajmak and ajvar. Ajvar is also mosty homemade. Preparation of it is a small ritual, and recipes can vary a lot. But it is a lengthy and labor costly work. And we all love it - by grandma's recipe :D
      When you open jar of ajvar - it's just - puf! Gone. With a big spoon. 5mins of work. xD
      And for preparation you easily spend 4-5 days. And 100,150.200 kgs of red paprika...madness!
      Rakija on the other hand - that is grandpa's job (or pleasure, more precisely) and secret recipe. Plum is compulsory here. Every restaurant will write it's homemade...but that is a lie. The best ones are kept for years, and brought out in special occasions. When you drink a lot of bad rakija you will have terrible headache. If it's homemade - tommorow you won't feel a thing after komplet lepinja or pljeskavica ;)

    • @emilpopovic6167
      @emilpopovic6167 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@wherearewe-ytjust a comment about rakija. Home made rakija is not the best. Sometimes it is really excellent, sometimes not. The quality of the product sold in bars and shops is nothing but excellent. The last 25 years a lot of craft distillers have emerged and they have a very professional work ethic and modern technology. Last year's winner at the Wine and spirit competition in London, world's most renowned competition, the Baraba lozovača (eau-de-vie) won with 99 points. Enter a larger supermarket or a proper spirit shop and you will have an abundance of rakijas to choose from, from around 10 EUR to several hundreds EUR if it is a šljivovica that has matured in wooden casks for 15 years or more.

    Pogacica sa cvaarcima. Is also one of my favourites. Cvarci are lets put it this way. You have a pigs fatty bacon. Mostly from the back. Its like 80% fat 20 meat. Its cut up into pieces little cubes. And is cooked in a kazan a 50l big bowl which is heated up naturally with wood under it. You don't add anything to it. It requires constant spinning and as it heats up it releases lard. And thats a leftover of cvarci. Most of the time you can get at least 30 40l of lard out of 50 60kilos of that bacon. They are perfect breakfast food ngl. With some salt its delicious. I guess its like coocked bacon.

      We were only in Novi Sad for two days - the first day of which was us finishing our food tour. So this video was only 24 hours. When making videos, we have to consider the cost of activities- as we're constantly filming new videos in each city. Though I'm sure the tour would be fun, $60 is too much for us - especially given it would be nearly impossible to film with the type of equipment we have, and would likely only end up being a minute or two in the video.
      Traveling just for us, and traveling to filming are quite different. A lot of people just end up skipping over museums, or tours like that in a video. 😆

    Pogačica fill: simply put, it's a type of fried and ground pork bacon, called "droždina". Usually leftovers of pork cracklings. Thus, "pogačica sa čvarcima" or "pogačica sa droždinom". And it's much better to eat "pogačica" with yogurt.
    Fun fact about clock tower on Petrovaradin fortress: in the old days when this clock tower was used by Danube sailors, the minutes were not so important, so the small hand was set to show the minutes and the big hand the hours. It remains so today.
    More fun fact about name of Novi Sad: "Novi" means new, and "Sad" means "garden" (of flowers) in most Slavic languages.

      I bet the food is much better outside the city center, but unfortunately we didn't have too much time to venture far out. When it comes to the rest of your feedback, especially the hat etiquette, we think that in today's day and age, a construct like this created by society shouldn't really matter anymore (especially since it doesn't affect other people at all. Unlike smoking in restaurants for example 😆). I think it's also important to be careful when making requests like this because you never know the reasons to why some people are wearing certain things. Many people actually wear hats and headscarves for medical reasons. The last thing anyone should want to do is make other people uncomfortable by pointing it out and making them explain themselves. As for the swearing, that's a regular daily occurrence for us which we don't have a problem with. We try to show our true selves in our videos. Thanks for watching!
