    I spent 6 months in South Korea last year and while there was so much great food, 닭갈비 is definitely up there with one of ones I miss the most. The food is amazing and the whole dining experience between the main dish and the fried rice afterwards is just ... I don't know. It was almost therapeutic in a way. Hard to describe. The restaurant I frequented for 닭갈비 didn't do the melted cheese, but they did fry an egg and put in on the rice. Very delicious.

      +PiroMunkie I miss Korea too. I only spent about 2 months there last summer, but I fell in love with everything! A fried egg on top would be excellent!

    Can someone please explain why some people put all ingredients at once and some others put the meat first or like this video just potatoes and bit of cabbage first ? Like does it matter? I don't know which one to follow. I worry the meat won't be well cooked when putting all ingredients at all (and cabbage, tteok would be cooking too long!)

    Tried this recipe and it was very tasty. I am not a fan of cheese over Korean food so I would probably skip that next time but the fried rice after the first course was awesome. I also added more gochujang(chili paste) since we like things spicy. Thanks Chef Julie!

    • @ChefJulieYoon
      @ChefJulieYoon  8 лет назад

      You can substitute mint and basil for the perilla leaves, but for the rice cakes and Korean curry, no substitutions.. sorry! Just add more potato... or just eat it over rice. And you can try it without the Korean curry powder but the taste will be really different. It's the secret ingredient!

    Questions. If I don't have Korean red chili paste. What is substitute for this? Thank you

    • @ChefJulieYoon
      @ChefJulieYoon  8 лет назад +1

      +Daniel Law Korean red chili paste is hard to replace because of the unique texture, flavor, and consistency. But if you don't have it and really want to make this dish, you can use a little bit of Sriracha or Chili garlic sauce plus a little sweetness. It definitely won't taste the same, but it might still be good.

    • @ChefJulieYoon
      @ChefJulieYoon  8 лет назад

      You should be able to, but I'm not sure how the squares would convert. You can look up the written recipe (direct link in description box) and try to use your best judgement... or maybe there's some sort of conversion for how many tablespoons is in one square of curry online somewhere.

      They are really good! More the texture of a white potato and sweeter than an orange sweet potato

      You can use a sweet sherry instead if you don't have mirin.

    Does Korean curry powder stain like turmeric???

    • @ChefJulieYoon
      @ChefJulieYoon  5 лет назад +1

      It does because I believe there's turmeric in there. I usually try to be careful when handling it.

      Interesting. Do you like it that way? I was so attracted to the cheese part when I had it in Seoul.

    Your recipe is nearly identical to Martina's of Simon & Martina which was posted months before yours. Coincidence ?
