I still can’t believe that this man was murdered all because of a mistake that every football player makes. Rip Andress Escobar
That's true, a drug dealer offended Escobar saying 'you're a loser, we lost because of you' and he got mad at guy, and the guy shot him. The interesting thing is that when Colombia lost this game and the world cup, Escobar told his teammates: 'Life Doesn't End Here'.
Colombia 🇨🇴 is a violence country. 😬😬😬
It's sad
Colombia was madness so kinda have to believe it happened
Seems this want a fan thing but a bunch lowlife drug dealers who lost momey on the game...as if he was throwing it on purpose. Ridiculous
R.I.P. Andres Escobar. Somebody in Colombia has forgotten that football is only a game...
It wasnt abt football brah

I guess some people take things so seriously. Andres Escobar made a mistake on the own goal, but he didn't have to be killed because of it.What a terrible result.
One of my clients was Thomas Dooley. And I always enjoyed talking to him about his experiences with World Cup. Amazing.

I remember this game perfectly, I was a teen but even me I thought Colombia would win. This match taught me a lesson in the beginning of my life: don't ever let de pride and arrogance take care of yourself when all you think is I'm de best and stronger, Colombia did it and paid the worst way. My national team Portugal behave almost all the time the way Colombia did, Portuguese players think they are heroes and are selfish and arrogant, well they swallow defeats time to time because of that.
R.I.P Andres Escobar (was murdered for an own goal)
I totally remember this match like it was yesterday in 2022

Great game sad Escobar was killed because of a mistake that players make in other sports as well
Escobar was not killed by his own goal, he was killed because he started arguing with a drug dealer on a night out
@@vorph_ he wasnt a drug dealer. He was a drug lord
@@bernie3168 indeed
@@vorph_ yeah but the argument was over his own-goal - unlike the US etc you can't just walk away with your honour being insulted; it doesn't mean you're going to fight but you have to stand up for yourself and the guy wasn't a drug lord he was barely a cartel bodyguard which in modern equivalent is just a foot solider.. if you really had to sum this case up it would be Andres made a very drunk man with a gun in a place where life had little value look stupid and so he responded the only way he knew how - you think it's bad today in places but Columbia in the 80s and 90s was awful.
People were saying if Pablo Escobar was still alive, Andres would not be murdered.
Why?
@@pelelum1062 Pablo had rules.
By the time this World Cup was played, Pablo was finished. Military and police of all kinds had imprisoned and killed his associates and had his family imprisoned. It was a matter of time before they found him sooner or later.
I agree. Andre Escobar would have been under his protection
lalas's goal was legit. Should have been 3-1. USA played a better match than Colombia. the murder of Escobar was the act of a coward.
Lalas goal should have counted and Lalas didn't deserve to be given a yellow card because of it. If they gave Lalas the goal, Escobar would have been alive today.

@@andretoles9505 actually he was dead by then. it's been speculated that this wouldn't have happened had he been alive
I didn't realize the US had so many quality shots on goal - Lalas header, Wynalda off the post, Balboa just misses a bicycle kick. Definitely not a fluke win. These days when I see the USMNT struggling to beat the press and get off quality shots I wonder what happened - the rest of the world got so much better in last 20 years or we got worse ?
What are you talking about??? That 94 team had semi pro players on the roster. Our quality now is the best we've ever had with so many young and the same age and also playing for big clubs in Europe. And we just qualified we're much better off now then in 94 and thats a fact.
@@westheking12 I think he may be referring to grit.
Their focus is on Europe. And Europe alone
Don't forget USA reached the quarterfinals in 2002 in a neutral tournament which is even more impressive than in 1994. USA has been in the world cup 8 of the last 9 world cups attempts while the previous 9 world cups 0 appearances. As of 2020's, USA are producing young talent than ever before in their history. Looking forward to what USA will do in the 2026 and 2030 world cups.
they didn't really press the same way back then.

To anyone who is wondering where was the own goal who killed that man (RIP) its at 3:29
The Colombian team was under tremendous pressure from drug cartels at the time, that's why you can see that their performance wasn't the best due to being worried about their safety and their families'.
This is definitely one of the football matches ever.

I can't believe Meola played so far out of goal and made that many saves on direct shots.
Was at this game, sitting next to a young Columbian fan. After it was 2-0, he said to me: "You gotta give us at least one goal." Within minutes, Columbia scored.
The Rose Bowl ❤️❤️
They just had the Superbowl in January of 93, then, this world cup.
Lalas wasn't offside on that goal. He was robbed.

Soccer can be deadly too..!! A brutal end to the captain indeed..!!

Those US jerseys were horrible
Because of those bad jerseys, USA played their best world cup performance since 1930. Those jerseys should be brought back again for the US in 2026. The more the critics bad mouth the bad jerseys, the more inspiring, mad, motivated and better USA play as a team.

It was also the 4th world cup match win in US history.
i notice both goalies are wearing long sleeve shirts, i guess the heat did not bother them, Andres tried to clear the ball and the goalie had given himself up the other way, i always say when you are a defender clearing the ball facing your own net is risky, i remember watching this game, and a few days later Andres Escobar would be murdered, i was 13 at the time

It was this game and then Maradona in 94. I remember I took allot of trash at 13 with Baggios miss in the final. But looking back on these days. It's like Dave Neihause from an M's game commentary lol. We just didn't have the soccer intellectual thing in the 90s, here in the US. Allot of people didn't understand where this Columbian team comes from. It's a sad story anytime to see, I remembered a weird feeling during n after the game.
