I am from Sweden and remember when watching this game I was thinking that the first 20 minutes was the best football I had ever seen , the offense and pace both teams showed was truly breath taking as they exchanged scoring opportunities. Then naturally the game was a little more like normal but still entertaining.

I have only two loves in sports.... It is Roger Federer,and the football team of Argentina. In sports,you also got to have an amount of luck... Although Romania was great,that team of Argentina was the best one on the tournament... It was not just their day. And also,the team from 2006 with my favourite player,the magnificient Juan Riquelme was the absolutely best on the tournament,and tragicly lost from Germany. Always the damned Germans to spoil the party... Maradona,Messi and Riquelme,all the beauty in football.
@@stefanlukic7272 Argentina in that World Cup had good players but not a good team. That afternoon in Los Angeles, Romania played much more effectively and intelligently than the our team. Hagi, Popescu, Petrescu, Dumitrescu, etc, played an almost perfect match. On the other hand, in 2006, we were very close to beating a thought German team that we surpassed physically and footballingly (something very difficult to achieve, by the way). Thank you for your admiration for football and the football players of my country. Is your last name Serbian or Croatian? Two of my grandparents were Slovenian, that's why I'm asking you. Greetings!!

Argentina has not been characterized by having great full-backs like Brazil, but Zanetti was one of the best we had. I agree with your point of view

Until 1986,I was a great fan of Brasil (and I still am,and always will be),but that year Diego entered into my heart and stole it forever. Before that,Brasil and its Zico, Junior,Socrates generation was on the throne. Diego made the change od heart,and after him,Riquelme and Messi. But I have to point that out again,the world has forgoten about Redondo.

Thanks for sharing! Such a great team and memories! I remember the game was broadcasted between 2 and 4 am in the night. After the game we were on the streets to celebrate it. Nobody was sleeping. Hagi was the best Romanian player of all-time and one of the greatest player in the world at that time. He would have deserved more than a quarter final, which we lost against Sweden at penalties.
In 1994, as a 17-years-old central-European (I'm from Poland) boy, I supported Romania and Bulgaria with all my heart, cause they were the only teams from our region (Poland, Hungary, Czechia, Croatia etc. didn't qualify). And I enjoyed their fantastic football very much. And did not understand, why my own national team couldn't play like that... Romania played the game against Argentina simply incredibilly, all three goals were extraordinary. Thank you, Romanians, for those emotions! :-)
Nice comment. I am romanian, I was 7 years old back then, and World Cup 94 was the moment I got in love with football. It was the greatest world cup for us, the greatest performance that Romania ever had. I remember that in the next qualification campaign, for euro 1996, we meet your country, Poland. Back then Romania had, as you also said, a better team than Poland, but the tide is turning and now you are a much better team than ours and you have probably the best football player in the world in this moment. Hope to meet again, Romania and Poland, but in a time when both teams are good, not just Poland :) Cheers and have a good year!
@@codrutcroitoru Happy New Year too :-) I remember the match in Zabrze, in 1995 - we needed a victory, but it was 0:0 and we finally lost our chances... Those times were terrible and dark for our football.

bulgaria vs romania should have been the WC final. But instead we met in the Euro. But I think both teams were THE power and the BEST in the World Cup at the time. and We should have met in a final. We lost our edge by the Euro match. And we were quite dismissive by having bigger countries and teams storms us.

I was 8 years old and i remember this fantastic game like it was yesterday. Also remember how my dad nearly had a heart attack and smashing the floor with his bare hands from all that pressure. Constantly swearing when the romanian players were missing and he was sitting on the floor the entire game while my mum trying on and on to calm him down.
It was a pure joy to revisit this game considering how time flies.

There was no way of calming down a romanian during that game. I was in LA and it was nerve wracking. No words to describe the euphoria at the end of the game.

Remember, I was a fan of Romania and Bulgaria for 12 years, Lachkov, Stochkov and Giorgi Hadji, Badistuta, Roberto Baggio, Bebto, Romario Thomas Brolin were the best of the cup, I remember Salenco from Russia scored 5 goals in one game, Stochkov scored 7 The game scored 6 goals 😍❤️ Giorgi Hadji alone brought Romania to the quarter. Stochkov and Bajo alone lead Bulgaria and Italy to the classification and the finals. Romanian fan from Iran ❤️❤️

Possibly the greatest World Cup game I watched live on TV: up there with England 0-1 Brazil in 1970 and England 1-2 Argentina 1986 (I'm an England supporter). My only tiny criticism of this otherwise excellent and comprehensive highlights package is that it omits the start of the move leading to the second Romanian goal, which was a thing of great beauty and featured an additional glorious one-two between Haji and Dumitrescu.

I perfectly remember this game.
I was 11 at the time, and France was not qualified for the World Cup. So I watched nd enjoyed every match without supporting any team.
This match was certainly the best one of the whole 94 World Cup. Not only because of the score. The level of the game, the technique of the players, the intensity.. and a goal could have been scored every two minutes! And there were also 2 World class players on the pitch named Batistuta and Hagi.
I remember this game is the most exciting game of 1994 WC, the fast pace of the game and the skills of those players. Hagi is the super star, loved him with all the technique and goals.
I was 17 at the time, now 46, and I had been looking for this game on RUclips for like 15 years. So happy that they finally put in in here. Cheers mate!
One of the best games of USA 94.The Argies were looking like serious contenders until the Maradona scandal and then fell apart.What a fine team Romania were back then and such a great player Hagi was.

The USA World Cup in 94 was one of the best I have seen since my first in Spain 82. It was the performances of the 'lesser' nations Romania, Bulgaria and Sweden that made it extra special for me, those three were superb.

Not even the finals between Brazil and Italy could have come close to it. I remember watching that match live. It was a Sunday afternoon. I was 14 years old. Boy that was soccer at its best. Highest level. Total football.
Final match is always boring as no one is intended to take risk at this highest level.

They were better than, they had Maradonna and Caniggia,we (romanians) didn't have the great team we will have on 1994, and still they did not win that game, so...what makes you believe that in 1994, when we had a much better team than in 1990, Argentina , with a weaker team than the one from 1990, would have won the game if a much weaker Maradonna was on the field ?

Essa Romênia era espetacular! Raj comeu a bola nessa Copa do Mundo. Apesar de se classificar com as calças na mão, a Argentina tinha um timaço e tava jogando bem até esse jogo.
Eu não sei se de FATO ela era favorita, mas que jogadores de alto nível ela tinha.
Não foi atoa que essa mesma Colômbia meteu uma goleada na Argentina de 4x0 ou 6x0 (não lembro) pelas eliminatórias para a copa!
