    I’ve done 8000 miles in my new Touareg with pretty much this spec. Very happy with it. Family of 5. All very comfortable and safe. I had 2 Audis before this and I don’t notice a drop in quality. Feels the same to drive. Brilliant V6 TDI 286hp engine.

    Just a tip: with all modern VW cars that have the wipers under the hood, you can have them go into their “service position” (blades upright) by flicking the windshield wiper stock up. It saves time and is a little bit of an Easter egg!
    I believe VW puts the wipers under the hood for looks and the ability to not freeze too much when driving in snowy/icy conditions.

    I sat in a full spec Tourag when I took my car for servicing, also the Q7 (medium spec) as Audi was next door. The Q7 interior feels so much more plush - that feeling of shutting the door and being cut off from the world. And I know you rarely touch the cheap plastics, but you DO sometimes and it makes a difference in the Q7 which just feels posh. Can't remember the prices but I think, if you have the money, the Q7 is worth it. But the Tourag is still the next best thing IMO

      Do wish they'd share more of their tech with each other. Put Porsche's PDK in all the cars for example. It would make for even greater products across the board and I honestly believe a Porsche buyer will still buy the Porsche as with Audi and VW buyers respectively

    Cool review as usual mat!!! But you forgot to mention the coolest option on the new Touareg! The night vision assistant! A radar which can spot objects like people or animals up to 400 meters at night or with fog! I tried it a month ago and it’s really worth the money, also in combo with the laser lights!
    Ciao ciao!

  • @MaxMax-di3fh
    @MaxMax-di3fh 6 лет назад +65

    Hey Mat
    Your videos are absolutely amazing. Your humor is great and the bandwidth of the videos (from cheap to outrageously expensive) is great.
    What I would still find cool, especially with the more expensive cars, is a night shot. Both from the outside (headlights and such), but also from the inside. For example, the new Volkswagen Touarg from the inside with ambient lighting looks breathtaking. Surely many of your followers would like to see this as well.
    Just such an idea ! Keep up the good work

    • @UhOhUmm
      @UhOhUmm 6 лет назад +89

      Budget? It has basically the same starting price as a q7, within margin of error. Touareg starts from 57K, Q7 from 64K. The only thing it has going for it are the cheaper options. So it's not budget, it's just a tiny bit cheaper.

      The Touareg was never meant to be a budget version of the Q7. The original Touareg was even released years before the Q7 was a thing. They even had a W12 Touareg at some point!
      Along with the Phaeton, VW wanted the Touareg to give the brand a premium image and place it above other European and Asian mainstream brands.

VW TOUAREG IS NOT AN AUDI NOR THE BMW, it is a car of its own, you can compare it to the BMW X5 or Audi Q7, but those cars are a quiet bit more expensive than TOUAREG, this is a huge upgrade for VW, if you don't like it don't speak wrong and nasty about it, it is definetly eligible for its price and quiet handsome I may say, that's all from me, keep the good work CarWow.. but you were clearly a bit not happy while making this video Matt ....

      Brian If you didn't include "good looking" but said the rest then maybe I would have considered buying the Touareg again, but because you said its steering wheel is good looking I will not believe the rest of what you have said. So I guess I still won't buy the car just because of the fucking 10 year old steering wheel.

    • @chelseafc8126
      @chelseafc8126 6 лет назад

      @@Brian-jv8iy Well maybe because I want to be convinced to buy it since I LOVE the car but absolutely despise the steering wheel design, hence when you said it is sturdy comfortable etc meaning it functions better than other steering wheels despite not looking better then I would've reconsidered buying the car again since it is like a "give and take" type of thing where I'm sacrificing design for comfort. But since you believed it looks good then I thought meh if this guy thinks the steering wheel looks good then the steering wheel is probably not comfortable. You should get what I'm trying to say by now...
      Oh and it has a gas/petrol engine... And the hybrid probably came out and if not yet then will come out but in China LOL, you can always order one from overseas but it'd take 3 months to arrive so if it is not urgent I would order from overseas you can see it as an advantage that it's not available in North America, you will be the only one with the car in a 1000 mile radius or something that's pretty fucking rad.
      Oh and I think we can all agree that BMW 7 Series' (and all BMWs in general) steering wheel is the worst out of all competitors, but nothing worse than the Touareg! I think Lexus designs the best steering wheels, every steering wheel they designed from 2015 onwards has been pretty sick.

      @@chelseafc8126 Wow, you base your buying decisions on a RUclips post about a steering wheel!! Off the wall, mate! Actually I've been using my wheel in my new '19 Touareg for several weeks and it's a dream to use. Practical, functional, and great feel of quality. I don't give a rats if other VWs have a generically similar wheel, this one's a winner! In fact lesser model' s wheels don't have the same quality of finish or materials.

    One annoying thing about this car: if you are carrying 3 people in the back and they can't tuck the seatbelt, the car won't stop sounding an alarm. So yes, 3 people is possible, but not reccomendable. The Park Pilot can only be used in urban zones, the grass confuses it and it won't work. You also can't turn the Pilot on and then let a passenger get out. It confuses it and you got to probably turn the car off and the back on to be able to use it again. The top speced version will be around 125 000€, so double the basic price, which probably does mean around at least 100 000£. It also consumes 10l/100km, which is relatively high but not that much in proportion with the size and weight. If the electronics malfunction, tge car if effectively dead and you'll have to call a tow truck. But, it is relatively nice.

    Matt, Touareg abt 50 thousand, Audi Q 8 abt 85 thousand, difference of abt 35 thousand for practically the same car, well the Q8 looks a little nicer but thats it! The 50 thou for this Touareg is a steal compared to what other brands charge for a similar SUV! You say at the end that with 50 thousand you can find a plushier SUV! Pls let us know which one because I cannot think of any for less than 70+ thousand offering the size, space, technology, handling, even looks and brand name! Sorry Matt, you get no points from me for this review and I have to admit that this is the first time over the years that I have been following you and enjoyed each and every one of your reviews!

      Matt says it starts under 49 (its on the review right at the beginning!) and that's what shows on the carwow site price. Carwow shows Q8 starting at 83+ (for same engine /specs to sister Touareg!) and X5 starts at 76+ on lesser specs. This is not me but carwow UK prices my friend, unless carwow has it all wrong in which case there should be corrections!

    Matt love your reviews but hope you would agree that reviewing off-road vehicle without going off-road does not provide the potential buyer with the complete picture. I get it that a lot of people are interested in the superficial ( quality of the plastic, number of USB ports etc. ) but there are I guess a few guys who still care about driving dinamics, performance on and offroad etc. so would appreciate if you could add more of that in the future.

    One thing, I know a lot of people complain about the steering wheel being the same across all VWs. You *do* know that Mercedes is also using the same steering wheel in the S-Class as in the A-Class, right? Heck, they've even put it in the Sprinter of all places. So one could say it's pretty common practice these days.

    I wish that non-luxury manufacturers would just bite the bullet and produce high quality vehicles for their upper trim levels. The Mazda 6 Signature, for example, has a lot of cheap plastic on the lower half. Do soft touch / good quality materials raise the costs so much that it’s unfeasible for manufacturers to at least offer them at the higher end?
    It’s just disappointing when you see cars like this, which have amazing looking interiors, to then be let down by the materials.
