Just a tip: with all modern VW cars that have the wipers under the hood, you can have them go into their “service position” (blades upright) by flicking the windshield wiper stock up. It saves time and is a little bit of an Easter egg! I believe VW puts the wipers under the hood for looks and the ability to not freeze too much when driving in snowy/icy conditions.
I sat in a full spec Tourag when I took my car for servicing, also the Q7 (medium spec) as Audi was next door. The Q7 interior feels so much more plush - that feeling of shutting the door and being cut off from the world. And I know you rarely touch the cheap plastics, but you DO sometimes and it makes a difference in the Q7 which just feels posh. Can't remember the prices but I think, if you have the money, the Q7 is worth it. But the Tourag is still the next best thing IMO

Just FYI on the wipers, on all VWs from around 2006 you just turn the ignition on and off then one push down on the wiper stalk then its in service mode. No faff on the menu systems as he mentioned. Just ordered a Black Edition and looked at the Q7. I don't need 7 seats and I am not a badge snob... so the Tuareg is great for what I need. Had the SEL MK3 for 2 years now. Little hint for the wipers service position: all you have to do to it press down on the wiper stack right after you turn off the car and they will automatically move to the service position. Much easier than going into the infotainment.

One annoying thing about this car: if you are carrying 3 people in the back and they can't tuck the seatbelt, the car won't stop sounding an alarm. So yes, 3 people is possible, but not reccomendable. The Park Pilot can only be used in urban zones, the grass confuses it and it won't work. You also can't turn the Pilot on and then let a passenger get out. It confuses it and you got to probably turn the car off and the back on to be able to use it again. The top speced version will be around 125 000€, so double the basic price, which probably does mean around at least 100 000£. It also consumes 10l/100km, which is relatively high but not that much in proportion with the size and weight. If the electronics malfunction, tge car if effectively dead and you'll have to call a tow truck. But, it is relatively nice.
I like the detail provided in these reviews but I think CarWow should try using different presenters, I think Matt is very good but I’ve must have seen 50 reviews of his which all merge into one long review of him commenting on door bins and scratching the hell out of interior panels.
You always mention the 12V socket in the boot for a vacuum cleaner. I don't know anybody who has ever used it for that, but lots uses it for an electric cooler.
I have a Touareg 2 and it's such a good car :) I really like this low position behind a steering wheel, 3.0 TDI is a great engine, it looks good outside and an infotainment system is very easy. It's a first time that I don't agree with Mat. Which posh feeling SUV can we buy for the same price ??
and I felt premium because in my family in November of 2018 my mother had bought a pure white Volkswagen Tiguan All Space and now with seeing this video the feeling of feeling premium went away
I think Bolkswagon is pulling out of America or something. I remember they just gave my career center 2 free jettas and also last time I checked some of their models are reaching up there in years while in other parts of the world they been updated.
Matt, Touareg abt 50 thousand, Audi Q 8 abt 85 thousand, difference of abt 35 thousand for practically the same car, well the Q8 looks a little nicer but thats it! The 50 thou for this Touareg is a steal compared to what other brands charge for a similar SUV! You say at the end that with 50 thousand you can find a plushier SUV! Pls let us know which one because I cannot think of any for less than 70+ thousand offering the size, space, technology, handling, even looks and brand name! Sorry Matt, you get no points from me for this review and I have to admit that this is the first time over the years that I have been following you and enjoyed each and every one of your reviews!
Matt says it starts under 49 (its on the review right at the beginning!) and that's what shows on the carwow site price. Carwow shows Q8 starting at 83+ (for same engine /specs to sister Touareg!) and X5 starts at 76+ on lesser specs. This is not me but carwow UK prices my friend, unless carwow has it all wrong in which case there should be corrections!
carwow, if you consider q8 is on the higher side, the sister q7, also same engine/specs/size as Touareg, on carwow is at 80+ thousand and the Touareg is better looking in every aspect
Matt love your reviews but hope you would agree that reviewing off-road vehicle without going off-road does not provide the potential buyer with the complete picture. I get it that a lot of people are interested in the superficial ( quality of the plastic, number of USB ports etc. ) but there are I guess a few guys who still care about driving dinamics, performance on and offroad etc. so would appreciate if you could add more of that in the future.
VW loaned me a Toerag for 24 hours to evaluate recently. It was big, bulky and the diesel engine was slow to react to acceleration. Also, all the nice options were extra , which if you ticked, would bring the car into X5/Q7 territory and they are much better cars.
One thing, I know a lot of people complain about the steering wheel being the same across all VWs. You *do* know that Mercedes is also using the same steering wheel in the S-Class as in the A-Class, right? Heck, they've even put it in the Sprinter of all places. So one could say it's pretty common practice these days.
I wish that non-luxury manufacturers would just bite the bullet and produce high quality vehicles for their upper trim levels. The Mazda 6 Signature, for example, has a lot of cheap plastic on the lower half. Do soft touch / good quality materials raise the costs so much that it’s unfeasible for manufacturers to at least offer them at the higher end? It’s just disappointing when you see cars like this, which have amazing looking interiors, to then be let down by the materials.
I’ve done 8000 miles in my new Touareg with pretty much this spec. Very happy with it. Family of 5. All very comfortable and safe. I had 2 Audis before this and I don’t notice a drop in quality. Feels the same to drive. Brilliant V6 TDI 286hp engine.

I love the jacket demonstration for the trailer feature
Being a bit critical. This car looks great, and that info system is hot
yh but hes a car reviewer,he's meant to be complaining about random things for those special people lol
and I felt premium because in my family in November of 2018 my mother had bought a pure white Volkswagen Tiguan All Space and now with seeing this video the feeling of feeling premium went away
That’s my favorite from Wolkswagen and they discontinued in USA.
I think Bolkswagon is pulling out of America or something. I remember they just gave my career center 2 free jettas and also last time I checked some of their models are reaching up there in years while in other parts of the world they been updated.
Wiper service position: ignition on ignition off press wiperlever down and hold it.
You should go ahead and buy it. One of the best looking SUVs on the market.
gas-powered-crusader good grief, it’s fugly af
@@nl3712 I like the fact you can get an awesome car without getting bad stigma like you do with BMW , Mercedes-Benz
@@dragospahontu fair enough. i like the previous two versions' styling (a lot), but not the new one (at all).
@@nl3712 ok
@@nl3712 but vw make good cars for the money
Not in the UK my friend. Prices are very close to BMW and Audi.
2:12 A VW with a a check engine light on. Classic lol (I'm sure the vehicle is just in accessory power mode). Great review as always Matt!
classic? im not that sure
Catalyst...
Saw a normal looking silver one in VW recently with the tech pack (and a few other obscure extras I assume), and it was €92,500! 😳😂
Paddy Downey might as well get a Porsche for that price
@@DaTruePowa
Porsche is a good vehicle but not as good off road as the Touareg but is more sporty. It is about personal choice.
I love watching carwow scenarios and I hope one day I see Touareg W12 6.0 on your channel as forgotten Powerful Touareg ever made.
So, what's up with hiding the Wowscore? Is that some super-duper-secret?
Dougscore have more power
Haha, I noticed that he always hides the score with his thumb when showing the iPad
No your not,I have an old one and had this version for a few days,I would have this over any other 4x4 ,it’s just such a nice car 👍
Last time i was so early carwow didnt test exhaust and vents with stick of truth
All hail the stick of truth!!
carwow I’m not a fan of faux vents either, but sadly they’re everywhere now. Seen the Civic Type R?!
This guy is making great reviews. Top1 on youtube right now for quite some time. Stick of truth is great :)
11:20 - first and last sighting of one of these going off road.
I used to hate vw but this car change it around
you could really hear the inner walsall come out when you said “better” 😂
VW loaned me a Toerag for 24 hours to evaluate recently. It was big, bulky and the diesel engine was slow to react to acceleration. Also, all the nice options were extra , which if you ticked, would bring the car into X5/Q7 territory and they are much better cars.
The steering wheel destroyed everything! I just can’t remove my eyes from it 🤣. Good job VW.
Yeah, i am confused as well
One thing, I know a lot of people complain about the steering wheel being the same across all VWs. You *do* know that Mercedes is also using the same steering wheel in the S-Class as in the A-Class, right? Heck, they've even put it in the Sprinter of all places. So one could say it's pretty common practice these days.
Really like the new touareg
OH good i remember the good old days doin hard off roading in a 2005 tuareg r5
Mat, one bugatti chiron please
It is so beutiful
I like how you are honesty about reviews! I thought you always put shortlist, but considering it is very honest! Are there any avoid cars?
First world problems...rear windows do not go down all the way....etc. I am not a SUV fan but VW did a good job making a freezer on wheels, look good.
