- Everything you need to know about one of the most talked about SUVs of the last few years. Howard Ritchie goes rogue on and off piste in the Volkswagen Touareg SEL 3.0 V6 TDI 4MOTION 231PS 8spd auto, putting it through its paces as much as possible without needing a crane and TV crew to assist.

QUIZ: FREE CAR FOR ONE YEAR....NEW SHAPE NO SUNROOF OR OLD SHAPE WITH SUNROOF?
Love that you reviewed the SEL!! Everyone has done the 286ps or R-Line models, which are nice but slightly outside my budget. I think I could live with an SEL and a few upgrades after watching this review. Thanks 👍
I have a 2011 Touareg and absolutely love it. Chocolate leather interior with stainless and wood grain.
Your good you should be on TV. Everything on point.
I like this one. His sarcasm is spot on.
Was randomly suggested this video on my home page, watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it, you've gained a subscriber.
Cheers Paul. Feel free to watch our back catalogue 😉
For clarification - it's only the SEL that requires air suspension on larger wheels. Move up to the R-Line and 20's are standard. I have an R-Line Tech and love it (I came from the previous generation Touareg, and this is a massive leap forward).
Hi, did you consider X5 against it ? I am thinking from either of these two, what do you think ?
WOW, this is actually the first time I see this car without the fully upgraded gadgets. Nice analog instruments.
I was half expecting you to mention "dogging" when you were driving in the woods. But you neatly let that one slip by :-))...
For such a large vehicle, I was surprised how little room there was for the back seats. So probably not the best one to use for my first comment above!! :-))...
Once again you've done everything right in this video. When are the BBC calling for you to join TopGear?
Legendary review. I think I might want one myself too.
Absolutely brilliant. Really enjoyable and interesting too. Loved the off road stuff. You nailed it again
looks like VW might have nailed it again and Howard so have you with this video - huge respect from me 👍
It's a shame that this widely praised VW SUV isn't offered in North America. Here it's the Tiguan or the Atlas. Not that we don't have 799 different permutations of SUVs/crossovers to choose from, but this Touareg seems to be VW's best. Well, maybe they'll decide to electrify it and send us that one.
Top Gear needs you !
We need these diesels in the USA. If you have never driven a DIESEL, you do not know what you are missing.
Bring this vehicle back to the USA.
Instead of great global vehicles like this and the Passat we get the watered down POS made for North America only VW's which is why I won't support this company anymore.
The day they offer a Touareg III with the 4.0 TDI V8 in the United States, is the day before I buy one. Sure would like to see an Amarok 4.0 TDI as well. That’s the truck America needs, but is forbidden to have.
Really like the car, but I really REALLY like your jacket!
Wow. That was awesome. Thanks
Great car for sure. Also as a non pro car presenter, you seem like a natural. Many of these RUclips car presenters over do it.
I looked at this model. Had two test drives and each car had the same issue. When you push the accelerator it takes up to a slow count of four before the car starts to move. The old model didn't suffer with this. If you are thinking of buying one try it, Imagine you are pulling out from a junction, put your foot down and start counting.....software?
Could be software, we were looking out for that issue and didn't encounter it. Seemed fine for a single turbo
Try the 4.0 TDI - no lag at all
Bought the R-Line petrol had it a year and I can't fault it.
Great review, might be my favorite RUclips auto reviewer. Well done!!
Excellent review as always, tempted
Why aren't these videos looking real 4k? Are you recording from an iPhone?
I am driving the 4.0tdi with the full option and i can say its the best car I ever had. I just dont like the nervous lane assist and the soundsystem could be better.
There is no 4.0 TDI, certainly not in the UK anyway.
Love love love mine
The off road ability is quite frankly staggering, couldn't believe what this motor is capable of off road.
My dream car
Now All VW haters will say that their Hyundai's/Kia's are still better🙄
JD Power stats say they are correct. Still prefer a solid VW though.
@@dreworoirden7675 the same stats that show that if you just change the logo brand but keep the exact same mechanics and platform, people radically change their opinion about the same freaking car
@@jh5klperfect point well made, I hear it all the time from badge snobs. I have an obsession with solid cars keeping my family happy so do look at JD power ratings for any help in choosing another vehicle. Still go with my gut feelings when time to part with cash. Thanks for taking the time to respond, stay safe.
I have a first gen kia sorento great for off road ( i have a small house on a mountain with tereble road) and i will never sell it But i am waiting for my new vw touareg r line :)
I still love the V8 4.2 2004 Touareg
It drives like a ship. Heavy, smooth, and powerful. Non of the newer Touaregs compare. Now that you have improved upon the technicalities, bring back the 2004 model to the market, equipped with all these neuschkeinten. It will outsell above all its competitors. And, please, we still want to keep driving the old Touaregs. We need spare parts for replacements. Make them available, please. Don't leave us to go scavenging. Help us enjoy owning the classics. We are willing to buy the parts to refurbish what we have. Help us pimp our ride.
Excellent review, all the relevant information good to watch & all opinions supported by details. Thanks 😎🇬🇧
That lane assist jolting could be a real pain in the ass if you’re asleep.
Bravo excellent review
Great car lm sure until the waranty runs out and then l would be very nervous. I would suggest resale might take a massive hit. Its not all roses folks.
I'm Extremely Disappointed VW dropped it from the US market. I grabbed a 2017 Wolf for myself but when my wife got her hands on it - well it's hers.
If they stuck with the off road/ lux approach they would be ahead of the competition - such as their off road racing - just saying.
I remember the days when 17 inch wheels were optional.. and very big. Now you a renault scenic with 20 inch.. omg
the Scenic has tall 20" but narrow tyres..
Good review. I'd be interested to know why you don't like air suspension.
Handling we think, he mentioned it in the 4-Series review referring to his own car.
@@leasingdotcom thanks
At 5:59 when you press the roof liner you can see how it separates from the middle column plastic. Also plastics are in some areas not up to the price. Rear passenger room doesn't seem to be larger than an XC90 for example. Too complicated infotainment system. should be more simple.
Nice review, and I hate big truck things like this. Would like to see you collaborate with the Canadians at ThrottleHouse or Straight Pipes to compare fun global things like next year’s Abarth 124 or what Peugeots might be coming to N America.
My grannys electric wheel chair could make easy work of this track.
it's new one Touareg, nice
That smal cup holder for (Red Bull) :)
AG Coarseman but now doubles up as an espresso holder.
Didn't realise Dr. Fox was doing car reviews.
Loving the review, interesting and informed as ever
great review as always! :)
Watching this after VW announced the PHEV Touareg.
dual range gear box ?
Did anyone see that roof liner move when touched at 6:00.. Not the most solid then.
So you prefer the to dump with your head (in case) to solid metal. So this is not your car then.
There's nothing shocking about a VW, apart from the resale price.
I own a 2011 Hybrid. What year is this car. I thought they stopped making the Touareg and replaced it with the tinny, not even close in comparison, Atlas.
This is the 2018 Touareg, unfortunately we don't get the Atlas in the UK
Screw the Touareg, I love your glasses what kind are they?
They're called pedo glasses lol
You really need to reduce the background music...
wait till you get inside and see all the cheap plastics... such a pity, otherwise an awesome car
The touareg or the XC90?
VW - by 100% ( Howard's view ) - XC90 is cheaper however.
@@leasingdotcom thanks love the reviews. Have you had the touareg R yet? Is it worth the extra?
No E/tailgate.....no usb at back....
"dont want something that shows how much you made selling houses"
---DONT you drive a 7 SERIES?
I will stick with my BMW X5M 40i Thank you.
Who ask you ?
Steering wheel is a deal breaker
We have some fantastic SUV offers below £300 p/m right here: buff.ly/3DQTVPg
too bad they dont bring that to the states anymore.
All new VW's are Shockingly Good then goes shockingly BAD years down the road lol Give it a few years like the rest of them.
Tardeli costantini .... All??
Pretty broad statement there don’t you think??
I think you’re exaggerating 😉😉
We’ve got over 50k miles in our 2016 Touareg and have been towing over 7,000 lbs. over the last two years. Probably towed the trailer for 25-30k of those miles. Going to Canada, Florida (twice), Arizona, California, and everything in between, and all from Kansas City, MO.
V12 A Class ..... So one VW, not all of them😉😉
I’ve had that many problems with BMW’s over the years, (particularly bad customer support😳) I’ll never buy another one..
Never had any issues with the VW’s (& Audi's) I’ve had👍🏻👍🏻
Vw have lost the ability to make good cars that can last longer than a few years
What about 2010 VW cc
Beka Machurishvili if you know people that repair vw now most say don't touch them , when a suspension joint only lasts 3 or 4 years and you have to change the hole arm , or timing chain tensioners fall apart at 100k ,they have forgotten how to make cars
That's not really true. I know so many people owning vw without any problems
totoIV normally the cars are new then , most japanese cars are better
a nice propaganda indoctrination from the same people and countries that have been barking that china s economy is definitely about to implode, and have been repeating it for years, and then just to change the music a bit they took the allies to war on iraq because it DEFINITELY had weapons of mass destruction
So he took it up a gravel driveway and a front lawn and says thats off road, what kind of Journalism is this!!! #fakenews Any standard car could and would have performed just as well. Oh i love the sensors beeping as he approached the longer grass lol give me a break
Why this looks so dull from the front? Does VW designers have no creativity left ?
VW? NO WAY!!
£60000 and manual closing rear hatch!
That steering wheel is rubbish..
really 🤷🏽♂️ everything but the tailgate is manual!
New corporate grill and headlights combo VW is now using is God damn ugly.
Yob get of my grass😈😈
very expensive compered to land cruser.
i dont buy anymore from this company ! greetings from germany
meanwhile tesla 'self driving' keeps killing people, ford its on their third emission scandal, land rovers were cheating even more but no one cares. curious
@@jh5kl ...No not curious at all ! The dimension and perfection these companies did an dstill do ! betray government and customers is so big that now even our own government, which is involved too in that shit !!, forced to arrest AUDI CEO Stadler in prison. VW,AUDI,Porsche, Merc and BOSCH ! who write the programs for them are deeply in trouble ! I drove over 20 years AUDI.....but this is a NoGo !!! We normal people go in prison for much less !! I´m quite happy with Lexus now :-) !
Why would anyone pay this amount of money for a car with small back seats... pointless
small?????
It is SOOOOOO UGLY. Pity
Is this an off-road car? Are you serious??? This is a total waste of money for an unreliable and overpriced piece of German crap! How people can buy a VW this days after the emissions scandal and after thousands of clients left on their own with a rubbish car!
meanwhile ford is on their third emission scandal, tesla 'self drive' keeps having accidents and no one cares or talks about it. anglo saxonic propaganda is slowly starting to get exposed.
@@jh5kl don't worry mate here in Australia they are well known them and others car manufacturers too!
New garbage 👎 Not going to last.
My dream car
