  • My experience in trying to fix the brocken display. In the end I have switched the module with a cheap replica.

The idea of using a replica's module is a well-intentioned one, however...some very cheap Casio-alikes have very poor timekeeping. Thinking particularly of the ones you get on the likes of Aliexpress for a few £ / $. Hopefully that wasn't one of them!

Thanks for the hint! In the end will be hard to find a qualitative replica….

The contact points locations on the replica watch's LCD aren't the same as on the Casio's, so that would never have worked.
Also a little tip. Maybe you are aware, but here it is: You are using a Pozidriv screwdriver on Phillips screws, which is why the screwdriver is slipping so much. It's ok to use a Phillips screwdriver on Pozidriv screws, but not the other way around.

thanks for the hints ... it was fun trying to replace the screen...but I didn't think that there could be differences in regards contacting points... In the end I keep on using this watch sporadically, but I can tell it's not the same, the low quality of the new module is visible.

@@cj80gdi Yes, the genuine Casio moduls are always superior to the knock offs.

eBay is a good source for after market parts.

Sure it is, but in my case the shipment costs are higher than the spare part :))

Unfortunately, I suspect that the A168 has been discontinued. After my A168 stopped working due to a dead battery (I had the battery replaced but then the alarm stopped working) I sought out a replacement but none of the stores in my area had an A168. Some did have an A171 (which I bought) which is similar except it has a round case and an extremely poor backlight (like the F91). In the end, I went on Amazon to get an A168.
