You guys are high! I have had a rogue and a CRV and they are typical Japanese CUV’s. I have had a 2018 Tiguan that I have had this CUV for 6 months and would not trade it for any of those other ones.
Then obviously the Tiguan is the right car for you. Just as people on here that swear by the CR-V made the right choice for their needs too. Remember, it's all subjective.
I had a test drive, with crv 2017, Nissan x trail (rogue), and finally the equinox took my heart. Safety features are really good, yes it has lane assist in which these guys said that it doesn't have, faster, very quiet cabin noise, quiet engine, smooth ride compared to all of the car's shown, awesome bose sound system, compared to honda's sound system which is far inferior. I beg to disagree about rear passenger space which these guys presented which in reality it has good leg space, not as spacious as the crv but sufficient enough to have the passengers a comfortable ride. The cargo space is a bit smaller compared to the other cars, but the Equinox have a storage area at the bottom of the boot which stores and hides small things and kept my main boot neat. Equinox also have a massive panoramic sunroof same with the rogue. Downside is the Equinox doesn’t have an Adaptive cruise control. But over-all the Equinox 2018 is the best.
My wife have a Rogue this year, drove for 2 hours city/highway, the average 33.8 mpg, the trick is with CVT when driving don't push the pedal down and don't pass 2000 rpm and you will save gas, Nissan have modified big time this transmission, you can go almost 80 mph without pass 2000 rpm, contrary to altima 2012 70 mph max at 2000 rpm, Roque have become the 1 sales SUV of all the time unbelievable, pushed for last year sales 840000 world wide
I love how the Rogue drives. Turbo engines are nervous, whereas the Nissan i4 responds exactly the same way every time. Makes driving less stressful, safer, and the engine will probably last longer.
Rogue has a peak torque at low rpm which people don’t understand. You don’t floor it for maximum acceleration. Just as you said, when take off at a green light, keeping it around 2000 -2300 rpm will give you decent torque while saving gas. That’s why nissan has used this engine for almost 20 years.
I don't see how. Volkswagen doesn't bother with fake wood, has soft touch materials all over the car, and has one of the best infotainment units in the business. The only thing I could knock the Tig's interior for was only having one USB port. Also Car and Driver reported getting 33 MPG on the highway in a 200 Mile 75MPH loop test. So it seems like the EPA is pretty conservative with the Tiguan's fuel economy estimates.
I agree if any of these cars are considered cheap it would obviously be the rogue. Darth Vader should shoot it down with the Death Star. This ginger kid has never seen the true power of the luxury side of the force with the Tiguan. (Imperial march music now playing)
Kyle Goodman I feel like no one mentions the price point you can actually purchase a Tiguan at. At 22k for an S, I’m having a hard time not purchasing a Tiguan over any other crossover. Plus I think they look better than anything else in the segment. People say they are slow? They are right in the middle of the competition in HP, high for torque. Why all the hate?
I also don't get where the reviewer gets the impression that the Tiguan's interior feels cheap.... the Rogue, (with all its bells and whistles) has an early-2000's feel to its interior plastics and is outdated the minute it leaves the lot. The CRV interior, while mostly good quality, is thrown off by that cheesy fake wood trim....its also styled like some sort of spaceship. The Tiguan's interior feels more like an Audi or a BMW.... I don't understand what the reviewer has against it.
If you plan on buying one test drive it,sit in the vehicle for an hour and you will realize that the Tiguan is miles ahead in terms of power, quality, handling, practicality. Volkswagen now offers a very long warranty as well if you are worried about reliability.
I would prefer a comparison for the Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota and Honda compact SUVs. The RAV4 is the biggest seller. Which fans had these as favorites?
A couple of big errors when discussing the Tiguan. The reviewer complains about the ride but fails to mention the premium model being tested has the large 19-inch wheels which will have a harsher ride as opposed to the standard 17 inch wheels. Also, complains about the transmission shifts but fails to discuss the car's various modes (eco, normal, sport), reviewer could have been driving in the economy (eco) mode. Lastly, about the car "feeling cheap" inside is purely a subjective objection. German cars are known for having a more "Spartan" yet highly functional interior.
@@damariuseaton6678 yeah I saw the new 2020 in person, I'd pay $20K for it, it's cheap interior. Very plastic like materials. You've probably never been in an Equinox fully-loaded. You're just a Ford person, that's fine. I look at all models and judge independently.

Equinox front passenger seat folds flat for a class leading 81 cu ft of cargo holding. The 2.0T can be had for $24-26K with discounts making it the least expensive, powerful option here.
Power of Pine Sol Not poorly rated as the +2016 CR-V. It has had a number of problems and owners find it is unrefine with a very high number of repairs. Very unlike Honda but that what happens when you get too big and change your recipe. The RAV4 is junk since redesign in 2013 and hasn't improved except to add led front and rear lighting to look rich. Some old cuv but Toyita pumps the rental lots with these and is tried and true.
We love our 2017 CRV Great balance of Performance, Efficiency, Refinement, Safety, And Practicality. Averaging 28 miles to gallon mixed driving. Thanks for the review and comparison Auto Guide.
The guy said the tiguan has the lowest fuel economy and is unacceptable Is he talking about how low it is compared to others or what? Because one of these cars is going to have the lowest fuel economy Despite how high it could be.... like that’s just facts bro
Prob the HP/MPG ratio. The GM is low too, but has a lot more power to justify it. The Honda has the best mpgs yet still decently fast, due to it's turbo, CVT, and light weight.
How'd I know the CR-V would win before I even watched the entire review? I would've liked to have seen the Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, or Mazda CX5 to level the playing field.
Nissan sold 400,000 Rogues in 2017. While I agree that the engine leaves a lot to be desired, his comment that it won't "sway the buyers" isn't based on fact. I would love to see a turbo-charged engine as an option in the Rogue.
I rented an Equinox with 150 miles on it so basically I got the car brand new and broke it. I put 2500 miles over 2 weeks in California so I feel that I really got to know the car. Pros: Power (pleasantly surprised very punchy) Roomy and Comfortable (Again drove it 2500 miles in 2 weeks) Practical in every way. Cons: Fuel efficiency (Not the best not bad enough to be a deal breaker) Cheap interior (I babied this rental and felt honoured to beak it in. That said I was shocked at how soon things started squeaking and rattling, fans whistling occasionally, infotainment refused to connect one night then worked fine the next day) Verdict: Great rental as it does the job and has a good room, but I would never buy this car. No experience with the others. Own a Forester 19.
Been considering the Honda as my family SUV. This comprehensive comparison really convinced me. As you said, it may be boring but does what it should. Thanks guys!
Why don't you mention the reliabilty history or anticipated reliability of each brand or model when comparing cars? I'd go with the Honda just for its reliability over the other brands.
Lavonte A To get a nice CR-V be ready fork out +$30K as it is thr most expensive turbo 1.5t you can buy. The Japanese are just way to expensive these days compared to everyone else.
I test drove this vs the Golf vs the Tiguan Limited. The Golf was easily the nicest drive but the lease prices were awful. The Tiguan Limited was second - a Golf on stilts and was really nice to drive. My last car was a VW Beetle 2.0 Turbo with a 6 speed DSG transmission and it was the best most fun car I ever leased - a funky GTI detuned one might say. The Tiguan Limited has the same great engine but an ordinary 6 speed auto. Not in the same ball park as my beetle but till pretty good. The new Tiguan was bigger but not better than the Limited. On one start at a stop-light, it seemed like it went to sleep. I lost a second before it moved, or so it seemed. If that was due to turbo-lag, it was unacceptable. Anyway, I went with the Tiguan Limited. It is not based on VW's MQB platform, so it is dated. OTOH, it was easily the cheapest option, and I'm liking it a lot.
Pat Dooley did you get 2018 Tiguan because it is on the MQB Platform which explains why it’s over 10" longer. Also it uses an Aison 8-speed transmission.
Just bought a tiguan se 4motion and it by far has the most premium interior out of any of these. CRV is very solid but your assessment of the cheap feel of the tiguan has me unable to take you seriously
My wife and I were seriously considering a 2018 CR-V, but then we started to hear about problem with oil dilution. Not wanting to take the risk, we will most likely going for a 2018 Rogue SV with premium package.
We had them all out for a drive and went with the 2018 CRV Touring. Nissan was a close second choice. The Chev was last because of uncomfortable seats and rough ride.
I test drove the CRV 1.5 turbo engine, and i felt like it needed more force, it felt lack, and drove the Rogue and that engine just felt good. In terms of engines i prefer the Rogue.
I personally really like the Rouge but I won't be buying another vehicle for 2 more years. Hopefully by then Nissan puts in a bit bigger engine. 200 HP in the Rouge would be nice.
Competition is great. I would say _none_ of these is a bad choice. They're all really great cars with tons of positives and only minor negatives associated with each. For instance, Rogue has the dreaded CVT, yet is clearly the Rolls Royce quiet ride of the group. Tough trade offs and decisions. I can see why they all sell so well.
These days it's been all about these three models when it comes to choosing the best midsize SUV: Honda CR-V vs Subaru Forester vs Mazda CX-5. Forget all the other crossovers.
I have a 2016 CRV. Driver side motor or regulator already failed. I am not a speed demon but when I go 70 miles I feel pretty unsafe (used to have a Jeep, made me feel much better), my lease is up in May 2019 and I am seriously thinking about checking out the Tiguan (7 years limited warranty).. The tester here says, the Tiguan interior feels cheap... Well, in comparison to a Jeep, the CRV feels unsafe and the interior is cheap...). not sure what to do... I will test a Tiguan and see if I feel safer at 70 miles (okay, I am driving on California streets, but no matter what, it feels like I am driving on four flat tires...)... anyone can advise... I only have 2 more months to decide... Gas mileage doesn't interest me...
I would take the either the Honda or Toyota as for as resale value goes since they tend to hold their value more. I use to own a 2016 CR-V with AWD and it handle poorly in snows as the rear end felt loose and unstable when you drive over snows. My 2015 Rave4 AWD which I had sold and got the 2016 CR-V on the other hand doesn't have no same issues so I went back to toyota aquire a Toyota Rav4. Not sure if anyone owning a CR-V experiencing the same issue as I have but tires on these two vehicles I've own are both nearly new.
The CRV wins on handling. It’s steering is responsive, precise, effortless. Designed by the same team that designed the steering for the 2017 Acura NSX.
I think VW made a mistake with the Tiquan Atlas they are selling in N.A. Saw a few videos on the new Tuareg sold in Eu. Now that's the real vehicle that should have been sold here. Not the decontented cheap interiors and old power trains they chose for here. Nobody with any sense would choose a CVT for off-roading. Most of them can't even provide enough power off the line to spin the tires that have good traction. There's a good reason many manufacturers are moving away from CVT except for fuel sipping compact and sub-compact cars. CVT's do provide improved fuel economy, but when you factor in the increased maintenance costs and some reliability issues, I don't think they provide real savings VS traditional automatic transmissions except they are cheaper to manufacture thus are more profitable for the manufacturers.
Toyota Rav4, Mazda CX-5, Ford Focus and Dodge Journey, Mitsubishi, Kia Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson and maybe Subaru Crosstek if you love Manual. You missed more than you had. Oh well, my Dad has a CR-V and he loves it, but I would personally prefer the CX-5 after an Infotainment upgrade comes along.
One thing exciting about the CR-V is when you have the auto brake hold on and take off your seatbelt because you dropped your cigarette and you are in the middle of a busy intersection making a left turn.
Car shopping and the Tiguan is the nicest by far. Interior and exterior. Maybe it’s not a race car but it’s honestly the only attractive looking one out of all of this. Why do the others look so nerdy hahaha
Totally disagree with the guys comments basically crapping all over the Tiguan. My opinion it's the best in this group. And I am a FCA kinda person. The Cherokee wouldn't do well against these.
The CRV is actually one the best looking design Honda has had in 20 plus years, I do agree they have had a 20 plus year of making some rather ugly cars.
As the proud owner of a 2007 Accord V6, I can say that I completely agree. I love old Honda but as far as new cars, I’d take the Chevy. For me it’s Chevy for SUV’s and Trucks and Subaru for the cars (as well as the Forester).
I don't see why anyone would pick any of these cars (yes, I called them cars) for any reason, but that's just me. Give me a sleek wagon with the handling dynamics of a sedan any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
The main knocks on the CR-V have always been NVH levels (Hondas are famous for being noisy), interior materials, and a very rudimentary all wheel drive system compared to some of its competitors. Now they got a peppy drivetrain, a better quality interior, and a quieter car all with the same great CR-V packaging. Don’t know how the AWD system is compared to these four, but realistically if off road prowess was a real consideration for a buyer than they’ll skip all these and go for either the Subaru Forester or Jeep Cherokee.
jbm0866 I agree. Crossovers/suvs like the explorer,pilot,Highlander,qx60 ect I understand because they are big with lots of space and 7 seats. But for a 5 seater why not just a wagon. Too bad they barely make any anymore. But still a Maxima or avalon or something is way nicer then there
Jonathan A I had a 2013 CRV that was at the dealer almost every week because the roof would leak and the engine would die randomly and my parents got rid of their 2017 CRV because the Heat wouldn’t work and the Touchscreen would also not work. My new Infiniti has been more reliable then my CRV or my Parents new. CRV
What about the murano? With the panoramic moonroof cooled seats and 260 hp it out classes all the 5- seaters here. The murano is really a luxury competitor so it wins hands down on that front; not to mention it looks like a sporty, futuristic concept car. So you feel passionate about the looks. But it has an engine tomatch those sporty looks: 260hp moves this mid-sized suv faster than most of the lighter cumpetition at 0-60 in just 7. 0!
Wow, I can totally understand the dislikes for this video. The reviewers come across as tech hipsters, whilst ignoring the cars with the best infotainment...
I 've been looking at this class of car for months now we are planning a baby next year. the CRV keeps winning in all categories gas is number one for us. Maybe the new RAV 4 can change that but if it doesn't have the android auto that would be a huge let down. Toyata hasnt made a good redesign since the Corolla and Highlander(needs a new one next year)
Disney Fan, I don't think the Rav4 sucks. It delivers on what it advertises. It's also the best selling non-pickup truck vehicle in the U.S. Granted most drivers don't care if a car is fun to drive or not. But not every car has to be fun. That's like saying all shoes should be running shoes. Some shoes are not, and some cars are just fine serving a pedestrian role.
You guys need to research more before making these videos missed options that were right in front of your face and as for the equinox ive watched other reviews in which the man sitting in the back also had the front seat in his 6'1" seating position and yet he had at least 3 inches in front of his knees and never brushed his head even with the panoramic sunroof installed. therefore your supposed expert review is obviously either poorly attempted or skewed and it seems like honda slipped you a check to put the crv in first place
the Chevy has a great power/fuel economy balance, and though many say the interior isn't the finest fit and finish, it's still nice, and has great reviews for good handling, not as soft/comfy ride, but decent... and GM offers better discounts, and you can bargain for much less with them and come out with a pretty good deal. As long as the quality overall, is on the good side, it's a great choice... except for not being able to turn off the engine auto off/on when comes to a stop... I'm considering that one right now... cr-v, despite what others have said, driving both, the 1.5L in it is more noisy and cabin noise is not good... 2019 Equinox has ALL the safety features now. VW, never liked them and I test drove the Tiguan, and yes, it was on the sucky side for me... the Rogue, is very nice, but yes, the power matters.. not for in the city.. but when on hwy and want to pass a truck or something, with car weighed down, you'll cuss the rest of the drive home, that you didn't have enough power.. so it does matter, and why it's off my list.. I'm having a hard time to find the right new car this time around.. always something to ruin it.. How hard is it for a brand to make an all around good car and not forget those few things that matter to many drives ?!!
Not impressed you guys did not include how is the exterior body of any vehicle and Tiguan has cheap interiors?? Lol
That equinox, it does have a adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist. They can be turned on by pressing the buttons on the left of the steering wheel. It’s a premier trim! You can’t say it doesn’t have those features just because you don’t know how to turn them on.
Yeah they seemed a bit amateur
Love my Tiguan! Definitely has hints of the luxury of an Audi!

The RAV4 is junk since redesign in 2013 and hasn't improved except to add led front and rear lighting to look rich. Some old cuv but Toyita pumps the rental lots with these and is tried and true.
the dude with the brown hair looks like the bad guy from home alone lol
How are these picked? RAV4? Forester? CX-5?
I feel like automakers are just trying to jump on the crossover bandwagon and rushing their models out there
Um the CRV has been around for 20 yrs and this is the 5th generation.
Phrancis5 not specifically the CR-V, but it seems as if crossovers are very popular at the moment
Equinox has no back seat space??! What? That backseat is huge and has tons of leg room!
Exactly and saying it has no cruise control and has no lane assist when it does
@@adrianbudree2729 They talking about adaptive cruise control or what ever as I heard the 2018 one only had manual cruise control
@@adrianbudree2729 it has cruise but not adaptive or radar cruise.
We love our 2017 CRV Great balance of Performance, Efficiency, Refinement, Safety, And Practicality. Averaging 28 miles to gallon mixed driving. Thanks for the review and comparison Auto Guide.
The guy said the tiguan has the lowest fuel economy and is unacceptable
Is he talking about how low it is compared to others or what? Because one of these cars is going to have the lowest fuel economy
Despite how high it could be.... like that’s just facts bro
AugustRushDesigns actually on the European market they offer the new xtrail (rogue) with a 1.6turbo and 6speed manual
half of them fleet sales ?
Nissan would have to create a new trim level for the turbo and then charge the customer $10000 more for 20-30 hp. Not worth it.
Would be nice if they had something other than a CVT
The TIGUAN is a great vehicle, the interior is not cheap at all. Also it’s fun to drive. This guy simply just has something against Volkswagen.
Paul Bourg agreed. I love mine!
Exactly ! It’s looks great out side and inside
This guy just didn't like volkswagen. The volkswagen felt the best when I test drove cars
Wow they really dislike the VW... Didn’t even review the infotainment
Imo the Tiguan is the best looking second best is the Nissan in looks the Honda and Chevy I just can’t stand the way they look imo
Glad to know we get review videos from people who have no idea about good vehicles vs bad ones
I rented an Equinox with 150 miles on it so basically I got the car brand new and broke it. I put 2500 miles over 2 weeks in California so I feel that I really got to know the car.
Pros: Power (pleasantly surprised very punchy)
Roomy and Comfortable (Again drove it 2500 miles in 2 weeks)
Practical in every way.
Cons: Fuel efficiency (Not the best not bad enough to be a deal breaker)
Cheap interior (I babied this rental and felt honoured to beak it in. That said I was shocked at how soon things started squeaking and rattling, fans whistling occasionally, infotainment refused to connect one night then worked fine the next day)
Verdict: Great rental as it does the job and has a good room, but I would never buy this car.
Reliability for these cars
1. Honda CR-V
2. Nissan Rogue
3. Volkswagen Tiguan
4. Chevy Equinox
The CR-V and Tiguan are the only ones that I will choose on your list the Kia Sorento, Jeep Cherokee and Mazda are my favorites
Lavonte A To get a nice CR-V be ready fork out +$30K as it is thr most expensive turbo 1.5t you can buy. The Japanese are just way to expensive these days compared to everyone else.
Who pays MSRP?!... a nicely equipped CR-V EX (AWD) can be bought for $27-28 OTD.
You didn’t put the RAV4 which is the best seller out of all of these
Justin Xu AutoGuide is well known for not liking Toyota products.
Nissan : infotainment system ... Is from 2013
Chevy : is good
VW : I'll buy if huge discount
Honda : touring trim only ... awd ... 👍 ...
CR-V is ugly and has a CVT but is the best overall package for a family. I like Mazda CX-5 but wish is had more power and Tucson 1.6T AWD as well.
Ugly no way, best looking out of the bunch, even the Tiguan.at lease my opinion.
No cr- v to many blind spots just like the rav4 I luv my equinox.
Where is Hyundai tucson or mazda cx5?
Just bought a tiguan se 4motion and it by far has the most premium interior out of any of these. CRV is very solid but your assessment of the cheap feel of the tiguan has me unable to take you seriously
My wife and I were seriously considering a 2018 CR-V, but then we started to hear about problem with oil dilution. Not wanting to take the risk, we will most likely going for a 2018 Rogue SV with premium package.
You still happpy after 5 years?
We had them all out for a drive and went with the 2018 CRV Touring. Nissan was a close second choice. The Chev was last because of uncomfortable seats and rough ride.
10:38 that's when the video starts. thank me later....
Tested all these including Mazda equivalent. My personal preference is the Honda CRV. No car is perfect but this was the best of the lot
You guys should have included a Mazda CX-5 to this comparison.
Crossovers sit up higher and provides more head room compared to sedans. They are just tall wagons which people don't want to admit.
I like the Honda too. But I can wait to see it go against the new 2019 Toyota RAV4.
They forgot to mention the VW has the best warranty!
Benito Portillo but the least reliable in the group
fastmove117 Chevy?
Just remember that the most capable offroad vehicles on the are actually CVT. I'd pick over CVT Rzr over anything else for offroading.
I heard more complaints than good things. Literally; every compliment had a criticism right after.
No Ford Escape or Toyota RAV4?
Is the honda crv the quietest when driving down highway?
Chevy Equinox takes them all 252 HP.
I’m happy with my 2016 Nissan Rogue sv. Got it for 13.8k.
I just want to hear him say "Suffering Succotash" 😹😹😹
Wow the new guy is not that bad... Impressed keep having him
Can we get a review on the Mitsubishi outlander Phev?
I'm staying with the equinox
Honda somehow making their cars uglier each year.
So true. This looks like it’s from the 90s
@@redranger518 the crv is really ugly from the back
I just don't get why anyone would pick any car in this lineup over the CR-V. It best each one of these in every aspect.
Shawn Meadows The CR-V isn’t that great. The reliability isn’t great. The price isn’t great.
I really wish honda would have turbocharged the 2.4
Tiguan is the best
I 've been looking at this class of car for months now we are planning a baby next year. the CRV keeps winning in all categories gas is number one for us. Maybe the new RAV 4 can change that but if it doesn't have the android auto that would be a huge let down. Toyata hasnt made a good redesign since the Corolla and Highlander(needs a new one next year)
Where's the CX-5 and the RAV4? Anyway you can't go wrong with the CR-V. I liked the two-tone interior of the Equinox
What about the hybrid version of the Nissan Rogue?
I love love love my Honda 2018 Crv EX.
Where did the extra 3k in vw go. You didnt think vw was going to pay those fines themselves. Did you?
And the winner is CX-5 thank you auto guide
I'm honda fan, but no rav4???
Mr. Ash rav 4 isn’t close to the crv
Rav4 is rental lot queen with thr Rogue.
Mr. Ash Yeah the RAV4 sucks
Mazda cx5 should have been there
Disney Fan, I don't think the Rav4 sucks.
No Hyundai Tucson? No Mazda, no Toyota?? Yah.....I can see why this video has so many dislikes.
Honda CR-V...The King!
Drove the Nissan only engine 175 hp?
the Chevy has a great power/fuel economy balance, and though many say the interior isn't the finest fit and finish, it's still nice, and has great reviews for good handling, not as soft/comfy ride, but decent... and GM offers better discounts, and you can bargain for much less with them and come out with a pretty good deal.
If that Rogue had decent power I would own one. I drove it and loved it but felt the power was pretty horrendous. Looking at the turbo Santa Fe now
