- A video on understand the TurboLamik clutch sleep stratergy. This is used for vehicles with a high idles. While it does limit functionality of the 8hp, it is perfectly safe to use when set up correctly.

good stuff as always
Hahaha god damn it!
Thanks for sharing Andrew. Have a good one, cheers Nico.
Thanks, you too!
Very informative as usual, your last two video’s have answered a lot of questions I see on Facebook posts. Top man.
I’m trying to shed some light on the basics. Hopefully help other understand a little better.
Amazing and highly informative videos as always! Im looking to 8hp swap my BMW E39 540I, but I have no idea where to begin. Can you point me in the right direction of who can help me figure out what I need to complete the swap. Thanks!
8spd the world, love the info 🙂
hell yeah brotha! Also 1000 subs! congrats
Btw, outstanding content, as usual. You are the go-to for TL Tuning!
Hi Andrew, fabulous content and insight as always! Can you do a video to overcome a tight stall on a diesel torque converter, specifically for drag/ quatermile application? Possible better settings to use? Thanks
Clutch sleep, and launch will do it. However I personally think for a performance application you need a custom converter on a ported rotary.
Greatly explained
Glad you think so!
That's What SHE said!!
I have a 530d with zf6 hp26 that sometimes dont want to lockup, it does when i put it in sportmode.. dont have issues when drive it hard. 🤷♂️ it has brand new converter.. i hope it's not the clutches that is worn😖
Great video. We look forward to the opportunity to work with you. How can we contact you?😉
Have you played much with the lock up and adjusting where the lockup engages? Instead of utilising the clutches internally to slip to make take off's nicer?
Yes. That said most I leave as per base map.
id I hear right 10.74 no trans bake? does 10.73 still have trans brake?
Both have transbrake. You may have missunderstood the video. Might need to watch again.
Heyo got a question for you since i watched like a lot of your vids of the ZF8, i got the Hptuners software for mine and tuned a bit myself but for some reason my 4 to 5th gear change while having no load applied pulls the rpm down really hard and fast. now i have messed with the clutch pressures in that torque region and even have gone as far as putting the pressure to 0 for the oncoming clutch yet it had no effect on it. since you seem to understand the gearbox very well i thought i ask you if you had some ideas why that is? This happens in whatever mode i set it aswell so there is no difference in M or D it always clunks and pulls the rpm down super fast.
To be honest i think it would best to have this comment in a HP tuners forum. I dont want to make any suggestion on a platform i have no expeirence with.
Anyway i can get into contact with you ? Need your expertise will pay accordingly im stumped on this e39 radio install
Hey mate. Unforutnately that is not something i can help with.
What's ya thoughts on an 8 speed for a turbo rotary so far ?
The 8hp is a brilliant transmission and you can make do nearly anything you want. However the issue with the rotaries is high idle. This clutch sleep method is fine if you know how to use it, understand how pressure is fed to the clutches and drive the trans accordingly. It will also load the turbo up for drag starts and launching. But again you need to be aware of what is happening inside the box. For the average punter, i think you need a custom converter that allows for higher idle. So you can make use of the converter. Thats when you can really abuse the box and let any loose with them. Also proper transbrake and a loose converter launch will help a lot of cars get out of the hole and be more gentle on the tyres.
@@ZeroTo60Tube thanks mate love ya vids leading the way
I see there is a lot of guys here who know what are they talking about so my question is: is it possible to run 8hp exactly like a DCT without a torque converter. Has someone already done it? Are there any benefits to it? I just love those dct shifts, they are a bit more „punchier“ and harder than an 8hp, and maybe the same can be done with an 8hp without a torque converter
It’s possible with a lamik yes.
I wouldn’t personally bother. But if you do, try and manufacture a dual mass type dampener to replace the tq converter. I’ve seen one guy not use a dual mass and it wasn’t running for long. BMW did it with the 8hp45r. They also stopped doing it pretty quickly as well and went back to a converter for the race cars.
The shifts still won’t be like a dct by removing the converter. The algorithm for shift disengagement and re-engagement is very different. Especially as it affects many clutches at once.
The only thing you will gain is the engine will free rev faster. Less mass spinning with the crank when not in gear or downshifts.
If you want a dct feel, go with a dct. It will be much cheaper.
Several guys have done the swap without the TC - one drifts in NorwSwedifFinworld, another with track Miatas in the States, and I’m doing one myself on an NB Miata for throttle response and weight. The TC weighs over 30 lbs the you add adapter and ring gear and you have a LOT of flywheel weight. I am using a sprung hub clutch disc for torsional
damping.
👍👍
Good afternoon. When braking sharply to a complete stop, there was a jolt, I noticed that it was at the moment of switching from 3 to 2
I'm also on version 10.74 and the tremors only occur when braking sharply at the moment of full stop Please tell me, you cannot view my settings remotely, I will record the logs with the problem and send the firmware bin file?
There are a couple of possible causes. Can you confirm here what your engine is, what diff ratio, and tyre size. And have you gone through and calibrated those in turbolamik yet? Some tyre and diff combinations can hit the base map rpm limits causing harsh downshift.
Can I send you a file for verification? Motor m54b30, main pair 3.64, wheels 225/45/17
