Stop focusing on arbitrary nonsense like the hospitality VAT rate, and focus on the fact the Fine Gael have consistently misspent, continued the privatisation of public funds, and haven't done a thing to solve the housing crisis. The latter includes still enabling bulk / institutional buying of homes for letting and investment - perpetuating this perhaps for the landlords in their own party - and missing every target in the development of new "affordable" homes for people. The €30K FTB grant is also so incredibly poorly structured with its hard cut off and conditions on the types of home, it has essentially increased the price of new housing instead of reducing the overall impact on the buyer (again, moving public funds - i.e. €30K - to private), and this increase bleeds into the overall inflation of second hand homes also. Fiscally and strategically inept, not to mention self-interested and apathetic towards the people of Ireland and their daily struggles. I don't care if Sinn Fein have flaws, it's time to give someone else a go instead of the same old depressing cycle we have with FFFG, and the abject, aloof and abhorrent imbeciles in the Green Party.
What about the children in need with scoliosis, Soundbyte Simon? You made them promises in 2017. 7 long years of having your spine crush your body! Disgraceful!!!
Country is in recession since mid june, some retailers can see 9% drop comparing to last year. 2% to 3% would be recession , 9% is major depression. Reality check .
Ireland does not have a real economy, as David McWilliams said, on Ireland's total dependency on foreign multinationals "Ireland is Albania without the sunshine" there is nothing wrong with Albania and there was nothing wrong when Ireland lived within it's means, when people could actually afford to buy a home, not this ridiculous smoke and mirrors economy that gives the illusion that Ireland is a 700 billion economy😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 and yet the idea is continuously going around the world. The IDA is now going around the world begging companies especially China to invest in Ireland bringing in more migrants and more refugees, as the Green Party Minister said at the weekend "Ireland is a rich country and we have an obligation to look after the people of the world.
Maybe a reduction in electricity prices might help everyone Afterall they are semistate organisations. Where is all the cheap electricity we were promised when we built windfarms all over the country ???? What was the point of those investments???
When they de-regulated electricity supply to enhance competition, we went from one of the cheapest in Europe to one of the most expensive. Makes sense of that
Econmony is tanking, election within weeks, emergency budget in 6-9 monthes to undue this "giveaway budget". Its all about getting re-elected for these career polymagicians.
Inflation and price gouging is wrecking this economy, lower production is being offset with higher prices, this won't end well, while this clown is polishing the deck chairs on the Titanic
I work every day and earn just above minimum wage. Its really a struggle. They reckon ill be 299 eur better off by the end of next year with the tax cut.
The standard VAT rate in Italy is 22%, compared to Ireland's 23% but the tourism sector enjoys a reduced VAT rate of 10% (excluding luxury hotels) 19 Jul 2024. Why not charge a tourist Tax rate like the Italians do and reduce the services VAT rate? Does anyone have a brain in Leinster House?
It’s incredibly unfair that single people are hit with a higher tax burden just because they don’t have a partner. Think about it-married couples get all these tax breaks and benefits, while a single person making the same income pays more, often struggling with the same living costs. In today’s world, where everyone talks about equality, diversity, and inclusion, why is it that we ignore the tax inequality between singles and married couples? Some people are single by choice, and others due to circumstances beyond their control. Either way, why should they be punished for it? If we care about true fairness, this gap needs to be addressed. Single people deserve the same financial fairness as everyone else.

*I fundamentally like Mr. Harris but he really needs to cop on to the fact that a 13.5 VAT rate within the Hospitality Industry will be hugely damaging. Going to a restaurant or for a hotel break in Ireland is a punitive exercise and a luxury for a majority of working-class people. Add minimum wages to increased energy costs plus all the additional expenses and many are doomed to failure as is currently being witnessed. Mr Harris's tenure in office will be short-lived if he fails to address this issue.*
Why are government killing tourism?
More Money in👹 and their cohorts are getting a fortune from it.
Coz hotels getting paid a fortune to house thousands of unvetted military aged men from strange toxic masculinity mysonyist cultures, thats why.
Because they want the hotels for our illegal immigrants
This budget is like every other budget was a F you Budget
He lost me as soon as he said he was putting billions away so the children of the future will not have to suffer the austerity he did.
Honest to God

When Ireland is booming how many ordinary people benefit from it??
China is the second largest economy in the world, why wouldn’t the IDA engage with them for investment?
I genuinely struggle to see how anyone listens to Harris. Just a load of waffle.
Mean test child benefits and go after social welfare cheats.
And took it straight back out again....chancers nothing but lying chancers
Not listening to the fiscal advisory council this is all going to end up bad again, are we looking at another property crash.

The 'green' way of producing energy is the most expensive way to do it. The public is charged extra for it. Stop voting for them Greens.
Scammers make billions
Have we made windfarms? I think we are lacking that at embarrassing amount.

How are you putting more money in my pocket, if I can't afford to get a meal or even a cup of coffee and a slice of cake while out and about?
Yes they put more money into the pockets of the middle income sector.
But they shafted the low income sector and the poor.
If children are going hungry in Ireland the parents would/should be put in prison.
National debt is 235 billion.
235 billion isnt alot compared to some countries in the eu such as germany portugal
