  • Our Friend Frank brought us his Elvira & the Party Monsters Bally pinball machine to take a look at, the General Illumination wiring had been changed so we worked on the connectors a little bit to repair the G.I. . He mentioned it was blowing a fuse but we couldn't get it to reproduce that. Some of the wiring was replaced back to how we believe it was from the factory.

    I met her at a signing last fall. She's 73, , has a few lines around her eyes, but she is still gorgeous. She's a dancer and has a body most 23 year olds would be jealous of. Fun game, and thanks for the video. Oh, and Cassandra Peterson (her real name) is a huge pinball fan and gave input into the table, along with voicing the game. She's done at least 3 Elvira tables so far.

    System 11. Boogie men were on the bumpers of Scared Stiff. They were to be activated by the bumpers but that was removed from production as was the LED skull pile on SS. Apparently the boogie man arms were known to fly off after time. I picked up a bunch of extra boogie men as they still sell them as kids finger toys today. There's kits to make the boogie men work as well for the skull pile to connect the plugs for it they actually wired the harness for. They'd loop the wire on IDC connectors to more than one pin to distribute the load specifically over a few IDC pins. One wire was fine. One pin was not fine.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 месяца назад +2

      Ahhh, they were IDC that explains it. Also explains why it was cut off!

    • @necro_nemesis
      @necro_nemesis 2 месяца назад +2

      @@LyonsArcade IDC feed through. That's why there's originally several pins on the boards all connected to the same trace. Likely the reason they added those wire extensions on there since they didn't have a replacement IDC feed through connector to replace the torched ones. To be honest I don't know if a single Trifurcon will handle the load as well as multiple IDC pins. I've reverted back to using IDC's looped like it was originally in these applications since I believe it may offer less resistance having multiple points of contact over a single superior one.

    Our boys at Williams... Making two plugs the same # of pins on one board can be big trouble. I remember on Star Trek Next Gen, they had one plug for solenoids able to plug into a plug with 50V flipper voltage on it. Nothing would happen immediately, but it sends 50v (which is actually about 70v) to a capacitor on the driver board only rated for 35v. it soon lets out ALL THE SMOKE. And I mean a LOT of it. Ask me how I know.
    Anyway, I always mark up one plug with a black Sharpie, and the other with a red Sharpie, so it's more difficult to plug them in wrong in the future.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 месяца назад +2

      Yeah they did that a lot.... you probably already know but the System 7 stuff was notorious for the neck connectors being reversible, and I did a video a few months ago about how you can plug the wires in wrong that go to the sound board on System 11 and burn up the power supply....

    There's a limit on how much current you can pas through a connector. What the designers were doing was spreading out the load across several pins. They were doing this all the way from the transformer. So that's why there are 4 separate circuits. The boards were future proofed by having 4 circuits even though only 2 are use in this unit.

    Elvira and the Party Monsters is using Williams' System 11B. Bally 6803 is *way* different in terms of electronic layout in the backbox. Bally and Williams have merged at the time Bally was making Ramp Warrior pinball machines. The first game released after the merge was Truck Stop. If you come across one, check the plastic on the right side, near the shooter lane - that one has sign, which says "Bally Williams merge", on backbox's translite there's a plane in top right corner, which has serpentine attached to it, which says "Bally is back!"

    Oh this is AWESOME
    Cassandra Peterson
    She was an adult star and she copied Vampira, the 40s and 50s black and white horror film star.
    Cassandra was sued by Vampira for copyright infringement and because there were a bunch of knock-off women doing a mistress of the dark type theme, with the witch style black showing outfits and makeup and hair, the judge ruled in Cassandra's favor.
    That Elvira was different than Vampira.
    There actually was a knock-off of Elvira, in the late 90s and I think she either wasn't anything more than local.
    I remember when we had a local Mistress of the Dark on one of our local stations here in the 70s in PA
    It was an independent low power TV station and they did a live show at midnight on Friday night and this knock off woman was doing the intros to the movies.
    I think I remember watching her do the intro to House down the Lane
    It starter Jodie Foster as a kid and dhe murdered the neighbor who was a perv
    I never saw that movie again.
    A lot of the horror movies from the 70s have never played again
    There was one that had a poster on the wall Racing with the Moon and I can't remember what the name of the movie was, but it was really good.
    The husband and wife in the movie were an actress and a director and they were doing a soft core adult film and she wasn't happy about it.
    So many of those films I think are lost to time.
    And those 70s women that did the Vampira knock offs, they are all lost to time because we didn't have vcrs back then.
    But it was cool having independent stations with live independent shows and intros.
    I miss those days
    It was very natural and the scripts were not always followed.
    It was a nice home feeling vs thr corporate environment of today.

    JOE, I know you have bridged 1 to 4 and then bridged 6 to 9 by solder bridging the pcb pads together. Its better to have just soldered wired directing to the pcb boards and removing the connectors and headers. You don't want to bridge the connections together because then the fuses don't blow because the current has been bridged so the current will add together. You want the fuses to blow on the correct timing when there is over current. That is why they separated the fuses per each wire because of the timing of over current. It has to do with "current sharing" and timing of the fuses. You mentioned when using Trifurcon terminals and connectors that they will reduce the HEAT in half because they have a 3 sided contact compared to the originals using Non-Trifurcon terminals and connectors when used 1 sided contacts which the heat was doubled?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 месяца назад

      I did not combine them after the fuses, I combined them before the fuses so the current is not bridged, the fuses will still act exactly how they are supposed to, thank you for watching Wayne!

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 2 месяца назад

      @@LyonsArcade The designers didn't combine 4 wires together BEFORE the fuse because of "current sharing" for the fuse timing to blow. I think this is why the designers separated the wires BEFORE the fuse also for current sharing. You can always bypass the connectors/headers and solder the wires directing to the pcb to reduce the heat also.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 месяца назад

      Wayne since they're tied together at the transformer, how does that affect 'current sharing' ?

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 2 месяца назад

      @@LyonsArcade When using the connectors/headers the specs are rated at a current. Example if the transformers output terminal is 1 amp but the connectors/headers specs are maximum 500mA or 250mA, you can't apply 1amp to the connectors or headers or pcb pads and traces. The pcb board traces can only handle so many amps of current. This is why the designers separated the wires for current sharing. Also the fuse "timing" is based on the current, so if you connect bridge tie multiple connects it will throw off the fuse timing to blow later. They separated the wires into groups for current sharing for the wire gauge size, pcb traces, header/connectors specs that can handle the current maximum rated plus the fuse timing.

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 2 месяца назад

      @@LyonsArcade Since you're bridge tied the pads together you would have to increase the wire gauge to handle more current and bypass the connectors/headers because the connectors/headers specs max current rating can't handle 4 connections tied together which is 4X adding the currents together. The best thing to do is use 1 big fat wire from the transformer soldered directly to the Pcb to bypass the connectors/header pins. The pbc pads and traces are also max current rated that is why they separated them into 4 pads/4 traces instead of using 1 pad/ 1 trace. They used current sharing to reduce heat and pcb board current sharing layout plus using lower gauge wiring harnesses.
