      It depends on budget really. XLR mics give you more control but cost more and are more complex when you start to run the audio through processing devices like the the DBS 286s. If I was starting here's what I would do, I would start with a mic like the Yeti and you can now download an App from the makers of the Yeti ( www.bluemic.com/en-gb/products/blue-voice/ ) to help dial in the settings. I would get some acoustic panels and improve the quality of the room. What you'll find with mics is to get audio 10% better you've got to spend 200% more. Get going with a Yeti and then when you're budget allows go for something like the AKG 414 which is a really nice XLR mic - but you'll need to use a DBS 286 too. A friend of mine as a really good channel on Audio ( Curtis Judd ) check out his channel ruclips.net/channel/UC9Tyxi96fEu0ho4mlxOEdOQ

    Great video! Question ... I'm making music vids of me playing along to a backing track. I do have a Focusrite Solo. Both my guitar and the speakers are connected to the Solo. My plan is to record my play along with the backing track on an iPhone. Would I also need an iRig for this? Thinking maybe I have to use my Shure sm57 to record from the amp as well as what is coming from the speakers instead? Then upload to Audacity to tweak it. I'm a bit new to this so any help is appreciated.

    • @coursedesign8312
      @coursedesign8312 2 года назад

      Common problem. Turn down the level setting as close to your mic as possible, then move to the software and its level setting, and finally turn up the Mac/PC/… system sound level.
      If needed, you can then turn up the levels carefully at each level. HTH.

    I found this video very helpful! I do have a question, When I have used this technique, I notice that the audio comes out only through one headphone or just "left output" i have a focusrite 2i2 to the adapter to my phone. When I have uploaded video to youtube or been live on tiktok, people mention to me that the audio only comes from one headphone. Is there a way to fix this?

    • @CourseBuildersAcademy
      @CourseBuildersAcademy  Год назад

      That is what happens when you use an audio interface directly into a computer, if you google it you'll see lots of people ( including me have to deal with this ). All I do is turn the audio from Stereo to mono in Adobe Audition or any other audio editing program, you can also do this in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or Davinci. There are other ways around it, but that's how I do it and it only takes a couple of seconds.

    • @CarolynEternalSoul
      @CarolynEternalSoul Год назад

      @@CourseBuildersAcademy Thank you for your time in answering this! I understand how to fix it when recording into something like audacity. Where my trouble lies is recording from my camera app on my iphone with my xlr mic. So I wasn't sure if there was a way to create a mono track from focusrite directly to iphone camera app to eliminate the "left ear only" problem. I use the apple camera adapter piece to connect the focusrite to my iphone. So this question is more about recording with my xlr mic directly on my iphone camera app and then uploading that video from my phone to YT with a mono track ability. No outside editing programs. Thank you so much for your time!

    • @CourseBuildersAcademy
      @CourseBuildersAcademy  Год назад +1

      You would have thought in this day and age they would have an option you could select to change it to Mono, but no, there are ways you can do it live but they are quite technical. I've been looking on and off for a simple solution myself for a while. I'm going to have a think to see if I can come up with a workaround, it's bugging me again now.

    I have IPhone 13 max pro, MVI audio portable interface it’s a small little guy but powerful, and a SHURE SM7B mic, with this connecter I understand it will power my iPhone & Mic, but what will power my MVI audio interface? It doesn’t have a main power source, it plugs into with USB into the computer or such and plugs into the audio interface with a smaller connection…

    • @CourseBuildersAcademy
      @CourseBuildersAcademy  2 года назад

      It doesn't need to have power to the MVI. The focus rite I use in the video doesn't have power, that's why I plug it into a powered USB hub, that's where the MVI will get it's power - as per the video I don't plug the USB hub into the computer.
