U WOT M8 well I'm not sure if she truly believes that but she does seem to find importance in putting the tales of hardship out there. I think it is equally important to create characters and stories that represent success and happiness and dignity in the same population. This goes a long way to promoting pride and provides good role models to children. I suppose it doesn't have to be Oprah's job to do this though.

This was a great movie and it was very moving. On saturday it was sold out and the only showing times was 12:15, 12:30.

I think she is beautiful! And yes, I read the book PUSH, and though I am nothing like her on paper, I identified with Precious! And I KNEW Precious in person, when I helped a homeless black woman to rehome her pets -- It took me a year, because I refused to betray her by stealing them. I saved her pets, but on HER terms. I could write a book about our relationship. But I won't.

Her unusual 'Path' was the 'Dessert Line in Luby's Cafeteria'... The other path she followed was that ancient Zen Method called, 'The Way of The Fork' It's where you blame a 'fork utensil' for all of your sadness. There's another called the 'Way of the Spoon' but she definitely looks like she was able to 'poke' her food quickly and get it into her mouth. I read something about her having a 'Glandular' problem also which is sad. Seems like her 'Saliva Gland' is way too busy for her size...

See it, but proceed with caution: it's very difficult to take in some parts (as in stomach-turning!), you must be in the mood for something dark. But ultimately it's a very beautiful film!

Take a look at the memoir titled My Daddy The Devil and Me, a harrowing true story of how a young girl was not only molested by her biological father, but was also led down life filled with drugs, prostitution and a seris of bank fraud, ultimately landing her in prison. Absolutely mind boggling!!

@drewbaccaownurface I just finished watching the dvd...anyone who's got a trace of humanity in them will shed tears...so keep the tissue handy. it was very difficult to watch but it's a powerful film.

As for the weight issue, a lot of people have problems like Hypothyroidism or other health issues that make them gain weight no matter what they do. So don't be so judgmental. And what if she would have been skinny - would she have gotten the part? Well there you go.
@1timothy215 To be fair, there's been a trend of directors hiring amateurs whenever they want someone obese, or strapping a fat suit on someone famous... And the director of Precious talks about that too, how he was looking for the lead "at MacDonald's"... As it were, he really lucked out with Gabourey auditioning, even though she was in fact an amateur (psychology major). Let's hope that inspires directors in the future to search for real acting talent.
