I'd say New Leaf is way more fun! In New Leaf, it feels a lot more personal with the character dialogue and all the options you have as being 'mayor'- happy home designer just feels like a mini-game version

I would recommend turning on Street Pass & viewing homes via the Happy Homes Showcase :) You can order furniture directly through wireless connection. You don't need a New 3DS xl to utilize these features- in fact I didn't use the new 3DS to make my town. I used the amiibo NFC reader on an xl model.
Bluebear is my absolute favorite in the game. When she had the Bluebear plush in the begining I was like :O "BLOOOOOOOBEARRR!" and then I saw her more and was like "YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!" You are the best person ever if your favorite is Bluebear :3

That's very true, I wonder how this game would do on a home console, I really only liked the portable DS ports being Wild World and New Leaf (didn't really get into the gamecube version or City Folk)... But seeing how the switch is a home console and a portable- I think it'd do great! :D
