Ah the good old acorn festival, where my sister saved up a ton of rotten acorns and then buried them around our town for me to find throughout the rest of the year instead of fossils like I hoped. Classic.
ill always remember my first birthday on my current island in ACNH. i was in the middle of an intense low, and feeling extremely lonely, as it was the first birthday away from most of my family that id ever had, having moved earlier that summer. i had left all my friends behind, and i was miserable. i opened up my game, and i was greeted by Piper, who was my favorite villager in my town at the time. she took me to her house, i did the minigame involved and stuff, and then i went to KK. and that birthday credits sequence... im not ashamed to admit i cried. even if they were just pixels, it felt really good to be appreciated.

I have lots of stuff about New Year's for New Horizons: - The one villager with a birthday on 12/31 won't be at the party bc they'll be at their birthday party. - If you share a birthday and have that villager (Marcel), you can go to his party and the NYE event, but he won't come to yours. - The game did not stop to think that we might like to party with villagers we share a birthday with :(
Additional note here about HPP NPCs not recognizing the fact it's your birthday as far as i can tell, and the Airport dodos also don't recognize it's your birthday ether. Which is really sad seeing as Orville in particular won't let you fly when you're flying back from another day because he REALLY wants to see the announcements. Wilbur and the HPP citizens can at least be brushed off as "Oh they don't know because you can't tell them and they didn't hear the announcement for one reason or another" - although it's odd because for starters your Passport has your birthday, which should reasonably be checked by airport staff, and Lottie should probably know your details seeing as she's your boss and hired you.
Noooo!!! I specifically got Ruby on my island because we’re birthday twins. If I’m interpreting this correctly this means she won’t come to my birthday party?
@@anitxtina yea, she’ll just have her normal birthday party in her house and won’t attend yours. But! The day after both of our birthdays, bluebear did send me a gift in the mail and apologized for missing the party or something
Fun fact: In new horizons you can dress up as Jack (using his robe and pumpkin hat he gives you) and talk to your villagers for candy, however this time they'll get scared and give you candy (like new leaf) This only works once per villager but it's still fun to mess with them
Okay I have to tell you. Festivale is based off Brazil and Caribbean Carnival. A big parade with floats, colourful costumes, and lots of dancing. It's a beautiful and fun parade that we get to enjoy. Caribbean Carinval is in October, but idk when Brazil's is
"It takes place in February or March, two days before Ash Wednesday... Festivale is based on Mardi Gras, the last day of Carnival, a festive season occurring before Lent" from nookopedia I was confused too bc Pave definitely looks more brazil inspired than Mardi Gras. I live in south la and that's not really the imagery we use lol they could have done a gator with purple/green/yellow for Mardi gras and made pave for Brazils carnival
Eesh, this video made me realize a lot of things seem so impersonal in ACNH, much like real life nowadays. You're not even given a furniture item from a character, you have to buy it yourself from an online store. I hope in the next game we get more actual events with your villagers and npcs, I would much much MUCH rather have an April Fool's Day like previous games than what ACNH did, I wouldn't even care if you got nothing from the event.
exactly, this is a good way of describing how I feel as well. so many (albeit small) events has just been simplified to "order it from the app" instead of having a get together or talking with the mayor or something.

Some of those events I had already totally forgotten about. But now that it's brought back up I really miss the flower event. Yeah they were better from the perspective of holidays and dialogue, but it depends on what you enjoy in an AC game. If you like decorating then new ones are definitely better.
The older games were better in some respects, but they severely lack in content compared to the newer games. Your town decoration and customization options were severely limited and you had little or no item storage. I distinctly recall my city folk town being cluttered with dozens of items that I couldn't fit in my house just lying around on the ground outside. They were definitely fun games, don't get me wrong, but I'm not exactly clamoring to go back to the days where the biggest customization option you had for your town was on the town create screen.
@einweitereruser For you. For many others such as myself, New Horizons has been very unique and charming in its own right. So no, it doesn't "suck", it's just different and that change may not be for everyone- which is okay. It also has positive points and some detractors/faults... just like every game.
@einweitereruser in your opinion it sucks but in others it doesn’t suck. I’ve played the original, city folk, new leaf, and new horizons. I do have to ask if you’ve played the 2.0 update? As much of the missing content is back. I know it’s still got things missing but it’s pretty well rounded. Could they’ve done better? Yes but it’s got a lot of things right.
This such an interesting video! Animal Crossing really has such a fascinatng history since it's changed so much since the first entry. It would be super cool to see more of this style on your channel ^_^
I recently returned to an older game and I don’t want to go back to NH. I get so bored in New Horizons, but in New Leaf, I can play for hours everyday.
its so interesting to see what holidays looked like in wild world and city folk. im somewhat of a veteran player in that i grew up playing animal crossing on the gamecube, but i never played wild world (or even knew it existed until long after other games in the series had come out), and only played city folk very sparingly due to having to share the wii with my younger brother who spent a lot of time playing other games. i miss all of the little events that would spice up the day to day in the original animal crossing, though at least happy home paradise gives me plenty to do.
Amazing video, I only played NL and NH so seeing all those holiday is really cool. Little note tho: May Day is actually celebrated in Germany as it's a public holiday. People go out with their friends, mostly drinking a LOT of alcohol while walking around somewhere.
@@Dagnel It's celebrated extremely regionally, where I live It's not a thing, the next biggest town where I live (in Bavaria) everyone celebrates it, but idk anybody else who actually does around me, only those from that city😭
A small village I lived in (Canada) had a May Day festival every year, with a May Pole for the kids to run around. It was basically a carnival but with lots of flowers everywhere.
The firework festival is something that Japanese people celebrate every year at the end of Summer. They have a festival with all kinds of stands, including food , Japanese masks and minigames that you can win a price from. Many people dress in traditional Japanese yukata as well, and you can see this in the Japanese version of the gamecube game if I remember correctly. At the end of the festival there is a big firework show. Another fun fact about the Japanese version of the Gamecube game is that on New Year there is no wishing well, rather there is a shrine. This is of course a reference to how Japanese people celebrate New Year. It’s very similar to the wishing well. People throw a coin to the shrine, ring the bell and then pray or wish for something they want form the next year. Edit: sports fair is also a Japanese thing! All the events are something that people do on sports day in school. Like in the game, it happens twice a year. Naturally cherry blossom festival is also a Japanese thing. People in Japan go cherry blossom watching every Spring. Basically a picnic under the sakura trees.
The funniest things i think New Horizons celebrate are the Super Bowl (called the "Big Game") and the Buñol tomato festival, which is a giant food fight. Both of these are represented via buyable seasonal items but it's still pretty funny.
Really loved this deep dive video of all the AC games! You have the perfect commentary voice that makes literally anything interesting 😂👏🏻 I gotta go back and play these now!

I think Festivale is more based on Carnivale which is celebrated in Latin America, but it is very similar to Mardi Gras. May day also has a few traditions throught the world, like a spring festival or a worker's rights day, but Animal Crossing doesn't really do either. As for the fireworks festival, I think it's vaguely reminiscent of the Bon festival in Japan.
There's a Japanese holiday event in New Leaf called Setsuban, you throw beans at demon masked villagers. Bonus prize being a bean box which is good for scaring unwanted fish.
@19:00 I'm cry laughing because you unlocked a memory of my childhood I had of feeling like a genius and supervillain stealing the flowers for flower fest 😂
I fondly remember stealing those flowers and decorating my own yard. But the bane of my existence was the fleamarket because I always had a nicely decorated house and it made me cry a lot as a kid lmao
May Day is a real holiday! It's very big in England and its to celebrate the coming of the spring! In the town near me every year hundreds of motorcycles gather on the seafront and on the hills everyone wears green clothes and flowers, gets incredibly wasted and dances until it starts tipping it down. Its my favourite holiday 🎉
I love this. Every year one of the most exciting things about animal crossing is to break my routine by playing the holidays. Every new year I am sure to bring my switch for the countdown and during holidays like Easter and Christmas, it is not stop fun and decorating. Easily one of my favourite holidays is the firework festival as it’s so wholesome how the community comes together (even virtually) Thank you for making this as I can’t tell you how many times im gonna rewatch it!
I wish I had known the lighthouse thing was tied to an event. I just thought there was a random chance you’d be able to enter on any given night, so I would always check it.
with the birthday in acnh... honestly i was so surprised to see it happen and ngl i may have shed a small tear bc fictional animal villagers were wishing me happy birthday when my friends and family did not 😭😭😭
Wow i forgot about the flower festival and flea market you just brought back so many memories. Me and my brother played wild world so much as kids! New leaf was an addiction in high school 😂 and now that i’m a full grown woman I play new horizons when i log off my desk job (almost) every day. Thanks for that trip down memory lane Dag!
may day is actually quite a popular holiday here in the uk! i think it tends to happen on may 3rd and most towns hold a mayday fete thingy where there’s food stalls and stuff like that. the main thing about mayday is this thing called the maypole, which is a massive pole with ribbons tied to it, where kids will hold the ribbons and dance around the pole to make patterns and stuff!
May day is also a festival day in Finland. Always on the 1st of May, we eat donuts and funnel cake, drink non-alcoholic mead, have markets, kids get foil balloons and party poppers. Fun fact: May poles are a HUGE midsummers day tradition in Sweden, they dance around it. The rest of the Nordics make huge bonfires.
That comment about Teacher's Day sent me. So many times I've been "thanked" for all my work with the equivalent of red carnations (aka, some candy or jean's day).
Loved this video, thought it might interest you that May Day is an actual holiday in the UK. It is a national day off where you have picnics, do maple dancing as kids (with ribbons and a pole) and morris dancing when you are older (with bells). Lots of fete activities will be held so the hedge maze is a fun animal crossing equivalent!
Hi Dagnel! As someone who's joined from ACNH, I would love to see a deep dive into the characters throughout the series!! I feel like every video I see there's a character I don't recognize, please give us a history!!
i never played the first few games, so i LOVE watching these types of videos to look at what the games are like and how different they are to the ones i have played, im excited to watch this 🤗
I think you reunite so many people which all shared the experience of playing those games, and do that with tons of effort and dedication. We appreciate you a lot, congrats on your well deserved 100k and keep it up :)
been looking forward to this video all day! really enjoyed it as usual, super interesting to discover events i've never even heard of before! keep up the good work ☺️
I loved this video so much. As a day one player since the original I remember most of those - or had completely forgotten about them - and it was an amazing trip down memory lane. Plus, I agree with all your assessments, especially on Toy Day and the tourneys.
The flee market was wild. Loved it as a kid and missing it since. It was way cooler than you having the chance to convince your villagers too sell something to you
thanks dag!! these were so fun to look back on :) i played ww and cf so long ago that it gets hard to remember the events in each game. i really love these history vids. keep up the good work, man!
i was expecting to come out of this video seeing which game 'did' events the best, but seeing it all summed up like this? literally every single iteration has some it does well, and i love that.
My first game in this series was New Leaf and that will always hold a special place in my heart, but I've fallen in love with new horizons over the last year or so that I've had it. My actual birthday was pretty much forgotten in real life but my islanders made it feel so special, I love the effort that the developers put in to the birthdays as each game went on
I do like the little cameo at Harv's island, where in the shopping plaza, Cornimer will give you 5 acorns when you visit him. These also replace for the mush items to make "bounty" items, also needing pinecones
These videos are always fun to watch I love seeing how the games have changed, and I would love to see a video on all the NPCs! Especially ones that are lesser known or super intresting, like Serena from city folk
Good to know I wasn't the only one stealing my neighbors flowers during the flower event in wild world 😂😂 i remember it so fondly. Wild world has a special place in my heart :3
This is an extremely underrated video, and it’s such a unique idea which is hard to come by considering it feels like every video about Animal Crossing has been covered! My first game was New Leaf so the ones before this I had no idea how holidays worked in the other games. I really enjoyed this video! :)
another great video! I had no idea how many holidays and events this series has since I've only ever played New Leaf, so learning about them was very interesting :] thanks for your hard work as always, Dagnel!
May day is a Bank holiday here in the uk. Its more traditional and not many people celebrate anymore but I used to join in the May day parades when I was in the girl guides.
I liked it, and I still do. Graphically it's poor, and it rough on the Wii U, but I think the dialogue is great and the holidays are few and farbetween, but still fun.
I love learning about the previous games! Really makes me wish I had the chance to play them!! Also can’t believe some people think Cornimer is Tortimer. Cornimer is obviously a sentient acorn golem, not a tortoise.
I’m happy to display my Rover briefcase at Tammy’s toy shop! And now that I know that I get his picture for doing it again I will be happy to do it again to get his photo!
Man I loved this video so much. It really makes me want to go back and play literally any game but new horizons lmao. I will definitely be digging up some of my older games sometime soon….. I used to get so excited to get the models from tortimer as a kid!
They brought back the villager valentines! I was so confused when I opened my mailbox this year to letters from all my villagers, considering it was the third Valentine's Day I'd spent on that island XD
wild world was my first game and the fact the holidays weren't Real™️ holidays used to annoy me so much (la-di-day was the worst, i straight up wouldn't play on la-di-day lmao) but now that i'm older i have such a sense of fondness for their oddity (esp acorn fest, i did very much enjoy acorn fest!)
I didn't care for La-Di-Day or Yay Day much either, but that's probably because they happened so many times in the year. It did get old after only a few celebrations
When I was a kid, my favorite furniture set in City Folk was the Bunny Day set! I always had to have it in my town!!! And, one year, while at my family's for Thanksgiving I really wanted to play Bunny Day and get the furniture in Wild World. So time traveled to every Sunday from March through April. Bunny Day never came... So that was confusing for me.
Thank you for making another video that I will for sure be watching at least five times! I love to put them on while I do my homework or chores- ur the best dagnel!
I remember feeling so smart as a little kid because I figured out you could 'prove' Cornimer is tortimer by talking to Pelly and Peggy and seeing his chair is empty in the background.
One thing I love about wedding season is that I was born in June so while I’m celebrating my birthday I’m making a wedding photo it’s just a fun time for me
GJ FOR 100K! I started watching you when my mom started animal crossing (I was teaching her) and watching the fish coming in and out of season. You were at 5k at the time, you’ve come far!
Gonna be honest, the bug-off in NL and NH are both great they both have amazing items I used to have the catepillar couch for a wonderland themed house I also loved the flea market
I was never allowed to play video games on holidays while we had the Game Cube version, and honestly, I’m just realizing now why all my memories of the original Animal Crossing only contain fishing and crying while Resetti yells at me.
You can do that in new horizons with high enough friendship. There's not a holiday for it, but you can still buy their furniture and if they like you enough, they may even let you take a piece as a gift. I've had both happen- Marshall gifted me his piano bench and I bought Whitney's bed from her
Ah the good old acorn festival, where my sister saved up a ton of rotten acorns and then buried them around our town for me to find throughout the rest of the year instead of fossils like I hoped. Classic.

There's a Japanese holiday event in New Leaf called Setsuban, you throw beans at demon masked villagers. Bonus prize being a bean box which is good for scaring unwanted fish.
@19:00 I'm cry laughing because you unlocked a memory of my childhood I had of feeling like a genius and supervillain stealing the flowers for flower fest 😂
pure evil!
I used to love the flea markets. One of my favourite events, I’d go on hoping it would be a flea market and then checking the board to see when it was
CORNIMER! I legit cried when tortimer got put back into New Horizons. He's the best old man.
He was in New Leaf too as a Puzzle League boss, but he's easy to miss!
I love this. Every year one of the most exciting things about animal crossing is to break my routine by playing the holidays. Every new year I am sure to bring my switch for the countdown and during holidays like Easter and Christmas, it is not stop fun and decorating. Easily one of my favourite holidays is the firework festival as it’s so wholesome how the community comes together (even virtually)
Thank you for making this as I can’t tell you how many times im gonna rewatch it!
You're welcome, thank you!
I wish I had known the lighthouse thing was tied to an event. I just thought there was a random chance you’d be able to enter on any given night, so I would always check it.
sadly not, that'd be cool though!
Ok but the flea market was literally my favorite thing as a kid!! I still play city folk to this day and I still always go on for it lol
The “bunny day” voice I CANNOT BREATHE
with the birthday in acnh... honestly i was so surprised to see it happen and ngl i may have shed a small tear bc fictional animal villagers were wishing me happy birthday when my friends and family did not 😭😭😭
That was such a cool video! I would love to see one comparing the house/infrastructure upgrades you can complete in all the games!
could do that!
You're welcome!
“eat shit Nookazon” i did a literal spit take.
love these long form videos, premature congrats on 100k! ✨well deserved!!
Thank you!
may day is actually quite a popular holiday here in the uk! i think it tends to happen on may 3rd and most towns hold a mayday fete thingy where there’s food stalls and stuff like that. the main thing about mayday is this thing called the maypole, which is a massive pole with ribbons tied to it, where kids will hold the ribbons and dance around the pole to make patterns and stuff!
Fun fact: The shamrock doorplate in New Horizons says Welcome in Irish
I feel like every video I see there's a character I don't recognize, please give us a history!!
i never played the first few games, so i LOVE watching these types of videos to look at what the games are like and how different they are to the ones i have played, im excited to watch this 🤗
Hope you enjoy!
I think you reunite so many people which all shared the experience of playing those games, and do that with tons of effort and dedication. We appreciate you a lot, congrats on your well deserved 100k and keep it up :)
The Pave series in new leaf is literally my favorite set :')
been looking forward to this video all day! really enjoyed it as usual, super interesting to discover events i've never even heard of before! keep up the good work ☺️
Thank you!
When Dagnel said *Bunny Day* for the first time, I litterally choked. I had to pause the video because of how much I was laughing.
Still just as funny 8 months later.
I loved this video so much. As a day one player since the original I remember most of those - or had completely forgotten about them - and it was an amazing trip down memory lane. Plus, I agree with all your assessments, especially on Toy Day and the tourneys.
Thank you! A get nostalgia trip for me as well!
The flee market was wild. Loved it as a kid and missing it since. It was way cooler than you having the chance to convince your villagers too sell something to you
the cottagecore island running at 5 frame per second comment made me feel called out XD
I never knew they celebrated Mardi Gras in AC! That’s really cool :]
It is my favorite holiday
This is awesome! I can only imagine how long it took to edit and record. Keep it up Dagnel! And I’m excited for you to reach 100k; soooo close!
Thank you!
God I really miss the acorn festival. I remember the hype at school about getting all the mush items
Another name for New Years: The one day that Tom Nook actually comes outside
thanks dag!! these were so fun to look back on :) i played ww and cf so long ago that it gets hard to remember the events in each game. i really love these history vids. keep up the good work, man!
You're welcome, and thank you!
i was expecting to come out of this video seeing which game 'did' events the best, but seeing it all summed up like this? literally every single iteration has some it does well, and i love that.
My first game in this series was New Leaf and that will always hold a special place in my heart, but I've fallen in love with new horizons over the last year or so that I've had it. My actual birthday was pretty much forgotten in real life but my islanders made it feel so special, I love the effort that the developers put in to the birthdays as each game went on
Cornimer is back during the fall on Harv’s Island during the Fall.
The tug o war looks really cuuuute
Good to know I wasn't the only one stealing my neighbors flowers during the flower event in wild world 😂😂 i remember it so fondly. Wild world has a special place in my heart :3
Man, I didn’t know Wild World got the short end of the stick. I’ve been playing it a lot lately, so it was interesting to find out some of the events
Did anyone else notice the 'Nice lip pubes' comment Dagnel made when talking to Gaston on Yay Day 💀
May day is a Bank holiday here in the uk. Its more traditional and not many people celebrate anymore but I used to join in the May day parades when I was in the girl guides.
This video is a huge reminder as to how poor Wild World was and yet I still spent many hours of my childhood playing it
I liked it, and I still do.
Cornimer is obviously a sentient acorn golem, not a tortoise.
exactly!!
Yes I'm here for Dagnel AC lore.
I used to get so excited to get the models from tortimer as a kid!
new leaf is goated…original animal crossing is up there too
@@lily-zc2eq those two are definitely my favorites!! Totally agree
@@DevonDowner i just miss shrunks night club so much😭😭 and the town plaza, and the house displays
@@lily-zc2eq omg meeeee too!! I really miss Gracie!! I can’t believe they didn’t put her in this one. New horizons is such a hollow game..
They brought back the villager valentines! I was so confused when I opened my mailbox this year to letters from all my villagers, considering it was the third Valentine's Day I'd spent on that island XD
the fact you they'd blanca makes me rly happy
I miss the models from the first game so much, I loved those
me too!
wild world was my first game and the fact the holidays weren't Real™️ holidays used to annoy me so much (la-di-day was the worst, i straight up wouldn't play on la-di-day lmao) but now that i'm older i have such a sense of fondness for their oddity (esp acorn fest, i did very much enjoy acorn fest!)
God I LOVED the flower festival in WW! So many flowers! So much stealing!
Other AC games: "Go talk to/interact with people! Do things, run around town, look around, participate!"
ACNH: "Order things via an app!"
I'm glad this made my Monday better!
As someone who just got into this series with the release of New Horizons, i like videos like this. Gives me a fun look into this series.
Thank you for making another video that I will for sure be watching at least five times! I love to put them on while I do my homework or chores- ur the best dagnel!
Thank you!!
15:50 I did the exact same thing. I use to love the flea market in Wild World.
I liked Weeding Day in New Leaf, where Leif would come, and give you an item if your village was weed-free
I remember feeling so smart as a little kid because I figured out you could 'prove' Cornimer is tortimer by talking to Pelly and Peggy and seeing his chair is empty in the background.
Awesome video! One thing I think you missed is that the villagers also participate in April Fools in Gamecube, not just the special NPCs.
One thing I love about wedding season is that I was born in June so while I’m celebrating my birthday I’m making a wedding photo it’s just a fun time for me
what. the light contest is so cute
it is!!
Love this style of video, always a treat to get a detailed & well put together look into one of the many aspects that make AC!
GJ FOR 100K! I started watching you when my mom started animal crossing (I was teaching her) and watching the fish coming in and out of season. You were at 5k at the time, you’ve come far!
As a kid I read "compliment day" as "complaint day" and went around telling my villagers how shit their gardens looked...
Gonna be honest, the bug-off in NL and NH are both great they both have amazing items I used to have the catepillar couch for a wonderland themed house I also loved the flea market
They were, I just wish it wasn't so grindy to earn nowadays
I'll never be happy in ACNH until they make Zipper's mask a clothing item. I need it to function
bro...yes
the flea market feels like a fever dream of my childhood
I was never allowed to play video games on holidays while we had the Game Cube version, and honestly, I’m just realizing now why all my memories of the original Animal Crossing only contain fishing and crying while Resetti yells at me.
I miss being able to buy your villager's furniture. It felt so good to leave them with nothing in their house
You can do that in new horizons with high enough friendship. There's not a holiday for it, but you can still buy their furniture and if they like you enough, they may even let you take a piece as a gift. I've had both happen- Marshall gifted me his piano bench and I bought Whitney's bed from her
oh interesting, I guess I've never gotten anyone's friendship high enough
