My grandfather found a Zippo on Normandy Beach during the invasion. He kept it with him during the war, though he never smoked. Today that Zippo lighter is a prized family heirloom.
@@scoville-3606 if were being realistic, it probably wont since its more complicated and the parts arent interchangeable. Its still way more practical if youre not a smoker since the fuel doesnt evaporate.
Had a Zippo for 3 years until I've lost it unfortunately but bought a new one straight away and I've had that one for about 4 years now. The service is amazing, the hinge-pin fell out but sending it to the European repair center would be more expensive over driving to it so I went there, not only did they replace the pin, they also put in a new interior while the old one was perfectly functional. Send out a Zippo lighter for repair without the interior, get it back with a new interior, send out just the interior and get a new exterior. Having that kind of service and knowing that Zippo will be there for you to fix it for the rest of your life was one of the main reasons I've bought one to begin with. It is probably more expensive than a Bic-lighter but still worth every penny.
Man I've owned my zippo for over 15 years now, it's crazy how you can get emotionally attached to an object, like if it's missing I go ballistic like one of my god damn kids went MIA
A grill lighter costs around $7 but lasts like a month before it runs out and becomes junk. A zippo costs anywhere from $15-150 and lasts for a lifetime with a $2 can of lighter fluid and some flints that cost pennies. Long term the zippo is cheaper
Hmm, well I bought a Zippo specifically to take w/me when I wintered in the interior of British Columbia Canada because Bics don't work in cold weather but then neither did my new Zippo. I guess you have to keep it somewhere warm when you're out in the elements.
I'm not a smoker and yet I have a Zippo (many of them, actually). Something comforting about holding them in your hand - as if they were the original fidget toy. Also: Zippos >> cellphones at concerts. Yeah, I said it.
I have at least 6 of them brought it in the October 2019 itself. Then, I had realised I need to be more careful with my pocket money and limit my purchase to 1 Zippo Lighter a month. When I get a job then I can buy at least 3 Zippos a month, but for now only 1 lighter a month as I am unemployed unfortunately :(.

My grandpa just gave me his Zippo lighter, which he’s had since he served in Vietnam. He had it engraved there, his last name, the date he arrived and the date he left, Psalm 23, and Snoopy, because snoopy was super popular.
I use a Zippo from 1942 every day, I inherited it from my grandpa who served aboard USS North Carolina in WWII. It's never failed me. Beautiful and iconic little piece of engineering
My father had a Zippo. At the time my father was working for a ranch, he lost his lighter while moving cattle, we all joked there was a Zippo tree out there.
Mines a D 14. Wild enough I started my cig journey in college with a pack of Marlboro Black/Red 100’s. I thought I had lost it until recent! I added some fresh fuel and a new flint from a lighter I had and BOOM! She runs like new. And yes, that iconic sound it makes when it opens is just like you can imagine. Ugh it’s a thing of beauty! Plus it’s pre-pandemic so it feels stuck in time lol
This is one of only a few GREAT examples of... "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" They did an amazing job when they first built these and they haven't needed "fix" them ever again. Oh sure they have came up with some beautiful designs on the outside... BUT a Zippo will (should) ALWAYS be the same forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Master piece of quality.
Passionate with collecting Zippo lighters, yet being a non smoker. Who doesn't agree that makes such a hobby more unique? And i kinda observed that many folks (like 90-95/100) wanna light their smokes using plastic lighters. Some detest lighter fluid's odour, other can't afford to misplace another Zippo
The first zippo I ever bought was a slipknot one from a music festival. Zippo had the coolest vendor section by far and I realized that they had lighters roughly the same price as a tshirt. I bought the lighter, they filled it, inspected it, made sure it worked, and handed it to me. Super nice people, good service and I’ll always have it to remember that music festival.
I have one... It was my grandpa's lighter...his favorite lighter he always make sure that it's clean and shiney and I still remembered that when I was still a kid I tried to sneak inside his room to play with his "Zippo" but he caught me before I can even light it up-_-...sigh ...he pinch my ears real hard that I cried like krazy..haha... But he's not here anymore he already died 7 years ago... And after 7 years, just yesterday I accidentally discovered an old rusty little box in our basement and at first I didn't give any sheet about that lil box until my grandma picked it up and said this "you were just down here all this time " and I asked her whats inside the box and she gave it to me and told me to open it myself and I was shocked when I saw my grandpa's Lighter inside it and it made me remember all those fun memories with my grandpa ...sigh ...and 4hours ago I went to the hardware store to buy all the things that I need to clean My grandpa's Zippo... and just now before I started watching this vid I was able to finish cleaning it ... Ugh ..these tears just won't stop... Anyways that's all..and sorry about my bad English -_-
The cost you pay literally lasts you a lifetime if you take care of it. Very few things do these days so yeah. I would definitely pay the money for it. Just got a second hand one in mint condition wrapped in black leather. Planning on keeping it my whole life.
Are you telling me the sound is quality controlled? No wonder I purchased mine just to open and close it every time I get the chance, it's actually kind of cathartic.
Zippos are worth it if you need a lighter on a daily basis and/or you value it as a collectible. AND if you are willing enough to maintain it. Also one thing i like about them is they can be ignited for extended periods of time without burning your thumb
Still have it after all these time, can't believe it's been 20+ years now. Still always have two spare wicks, flint refills & fluids out of habit.😂 The Zippo gun metal finish.👍😎🍻
Only if they intend to carry it. It's not a lighter you put in a drawer and forget about, because it WILL be out of fuel when you need it. But something you carry regularly, so you keep it fueled? Absolutely, best option.
I prefer a Zippo with a butane insert. It gives you a more concentrated flame (great for lighting birthday candles and such), and you don't have to worry about evaporated lighter fluid.
