MrMobile [Michael Fisher] been watching your videos since you were reviewing at pocketnow great review by the way i was wondering if you were going to review the lg v30 plus?
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] great review. One of the most honest reviews. Thank you so much. I have seen many reviews where they are in damage control mode with the flaws of the Pixel 2. However I really like how you did it. With full honestly !! Keep it going Mr Mobile , and help us stay Mobile !! :)
most people made a bigger deal out of the color and burn-in issues, but for me it was the blue tint that made me return my XL. I use my phone a lot while it's laying on a table or desk next to me and the blue tint was unbearable. it's such a shame. I thought I finally had a near perfect phone with a stellar camera AND stereo speakers. the search continues.
@@SatnamSingh-mx2uc it was never actual burn in, it was only temporary, an issue LG had with lots of displays, not just the one on the 2XL. And it was almost entirely fixed on newer 2XLs
Why, oh why, did Google go with LG for the big one? They should've learned their lesson from the Nexus 5X. Just stick with HTC. They don't have the edge to edge screens, but they don't have any reliability problems either. The Pixel 2 looks much better than the XL to me. The bezels make for an easier grip, it's cheaper, and the hardware is better.
This video has finally made you my most favorite RUclips tech reviewer. I have seen your videos ever since you made that collab with MKBHD and your quality is always consistent. Great Work!
I got my pixel 2 xl three days ago and even with the blue shift I still love this phone. I can only notice the blue shift when I purposely tilt my phone at an angle which I don't do when I'm actually using the phone . And the image retention I did indeed notice when I did the gray test but it's not even there when I'm just using the phone normally. All these test only happens if you want to go looking for it. Don't get me wrong, Google shouldn't get a free pass, but my God this phone is just too fast, awesome camera, speakers , software, battery, I can't get something like this other than my iPhone, which I traded for this. Also I hate Samsung phone's with their lag and software update.
I wish Google would just partner with Samsung to make the next Pixel.. I'd probably be the best phone, Samsung hardware with Google's software philosophy.
Google partnered with Samsung twice for nexus devices and it wasn’t great. I don’t see that happening but an a5 2017 running stock android with better internals would be a godsend.
Ethyn simple, they could probably just sell their future S/Note phones with stock android. And because they have pretty good hardware stock android would glide.
Excellent review. My wife and I were both agonizing over the 2XL as big stock android fans, but I ended up cancelling and getting the Note 8 after seeing the screen on a demo unit. She's still waiting for her 2XL though (Nov 15 release in Canada) so one of us will be jealous of the other.
Your videos rock, Michael! I work for an authorized retailer of Verizon and your reviews teach me tons of things about the products we sell. Keep em coming!!!
Amazing review MrMobile. Talking about the good as well as the bad. Most reviewers are failing to call out the screen problem for what it really is. When there is a problem - I don't care where it comes from whether from Apple or Google or Samsung or LG or HTC or Huawei or 1Plus, we have to say it. That's the only way we can hold these companies accountable and ensure we get great products all the time. Pointing out a problem is different from just bashing a company of the sake of bashing. MY LOYALTY IS TO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOT TO APPLE OR LG OR GOOGLE OR HTC OR SAMSUNG OR HUAWEI OR SONY OR BLACKBERRY NOR NOKIA. LETS SPEAK FACTS ABOUT EVERY COMPANY ONCE AGAIN GREAT VIDEO. THUMBS UP MY FRIEND.
Thanks for pointing out the necessary issues and making clear what's your opinion and what's the fact, unlike a lot of other reviewers who just seem to play it off as a minor issue.
I’m just glad to see ads running on your video! Good to know one of my favourite reviewers have monetised videos 😁 Please do a video on the iPad Pro 10.5 now that iOS 11 is out .. Also hoping to see more of that android device we got a sneak peak of! 😉✌🏻
A very honest and eloquent assessment. I have seen a lot of reviews of the Pixel 2 XL...yours calls out Google for the combination of screen issues, quite rightly, but interestingly you conclude that the software is fantastic. I am tempted to order an XL afterall. Thank you
That Awkward Moment when you realize that The Xl was Made by LG and it's already proven to be as unreliable as the rest of their devices , But the smaller one is made by HTC so it'll probably last forever
Thanks for being the only person I've seen to correctly call out the screen issue. It's a real one no matter how much the big youtubers try and minimize it. Mkbhd minimized it but it's a bad screen...
Good honest review. Better than the other so called reviewers. Yes, they said the same thing but you took a more mature approach. I've had my Pixel 2 XL for a week now and so far no issues with the screen. Even the blue tint is miniscule. Love this phone.
No SD slot, no battery change , no headphone jack , IP67 ( and not 68) , no wireless charging and display issues. This phone is a sham especially for the price..
Don't really give a shit about those negatives except no headphone jack and display issues. Also IP67 is more than adequate because no one's gonna dump their phone in a pool for more than 30 minutes unless you're an idiot. At this point in time though, you'd be better off waiting for the Pixel 3, or just get the now inexpensive Essential Phone or the OnePlus 6 like I am.
Of course another great review! I went to the Google pop up store in NYC (wanted to get the Google Home Mini and check out the store) and I took a look at the Pixels. As a Note 8 owner the look and feel of both the Pixel 2 XL and Note side by side it's like night and day. Between the feel of the hardware and the screen I don't think I could ever make the switch to the Pixel even though I respect the pure Android experience it has.
Excellent and fair review. I got my phone yesterday and I LOVE it. Fantastic device and it is slick, stupid fast, and that camera. Gorgeous. The screen isn't a killer for me. In fact, I very much like it. The screen typically crushes battery life, but with this one it seems to be legit because my battery in this phone was incredible compared to my 2 year old device. I'm in heaven by comparison. But, I do get why some would want to downgrade this phone. To me though, nothing beats the pure Android experience PLUS updates. I'm also looking forward to the fixes that Google announced yesterday and I hope they make some difference. The 2 year warranty helps! And there are sofware things that can help with burn in that they should already have had installed. Maybe this is a good thing, long term. Google/Android is learning that those soft keys shouldn't be illuminated 95% of the time. There are some better ways of doing it. And it looks like they will implement them soon.
I got my 2 XL on Monday, and I love it. The display was not a killer for me and as far as the burn in that doesn't bother me either. I have the original Pixel XL and it had burn in, but I never noticed it until I heard about it happening on the 2XL so I went looking for it on my original one. That being said, I can understand why some people wouldnt want it because of these problems. But to me, they aren't that big of an issue for me to pass up on this amazing device. Software is great, and I love a good camera on a phone. I am also excited about the improvements they are going to try to make to the display through updates. While the "dull colors" don't really effect me too much I'd still love to see what they can do to try and make them better!
I use Note5 since jan 2016, almost two years now and Samsung OLED screen is just awesome. Will probably wait until Galaxy S9 to update my phone, the only bad thing about Samsung is their late updates...
huss1205 I'm in the exact same boat as you. Have had my Note 5 since Nov 2015 and overall still love it, but would like to upgrade in the near future -- if for no other reasons, to divorce from my carrier (AT&T) and to get Oreo. I really wanted Pixel 2/2XL to be "the one", but these just seems like an epic fail now, LOL. I'm considering original Pixel XL, OnePlus (5T), and Essential as alternatives, but all of these have trade-offs vs Note 5. I might just follow your lead and await Sammy S9/S9+, knowing it will be a big upgrade and ship with Oreo. I just can't justify the $$ for Note 8 at this point -- esp given the FP scanner placement, and knowing that the Oreo update won't happen until at least April.
This is my opinion on any phone asking as much as you have to pay for the 2XL ($916.00 out the door here in CA). It needs to be as close to perfect a device as possible. Problems like these, I might expect to occur in a cheap budget phone, but not in a flagship.
Michael, I guess people haven't caught on yet or else you would have at least 1 million subs. Heres to a big 2018. Those of us who followed you since Pocketnow days are happy your reviews are just as good as before and often much better. Thanks Michael you are trusted by all of us subs. 2018 ONE MILLION SUBS.
Adam Benko I only know the UK one sorrryy that's on the 17th November. The US should be getting it before that! Looks like the best phone of the year and maybe till end of next year until the next mate comes out 😂
Lewys Cousins yes. I hope it's perfect until then. I wanted the smaller pixel but not with this design 😞 I just hope they make a good screen and a better design and a second wide angle Lense. Then they've got me
Easily the most accurate and honest review. You did a great job addressing the issues that FACTUALLY exist, while other reviewers tried to sweep them under the rug. I respect that stated they exist, but that you can live with them. All the people pretending the issues don't exist need to realize Google will NOT fix them unless people complain about them. They have no reason to change anything if everyone just quietly accepts it. Your Pixel 2 XL doesn't look as bad as mine. Mine turned a deep blue at even the slightest tilt. And I didn't want to play the lottery to get an acceptable phone. Note8 feels nearly identical right now so I'll stick with that for now. My Pixel 2 XL also had a really grainy screen...so that's another factor in the screen lottery for Pixel 2 XL users.
I personally think the pixel is priced a bit high for what it offers, and now that the XL 2 has these issues, small or not, if you are going to charge me a premium for a product, I expect premium quality from the most important facets (eg. the screen), especially considering they took away the headphone jack and I would need a carry around a stupid dongle for all my wired headphones(non of my blue tooth headsets work as well outside on the streets). I will not be giving google a pass on the XL 2. Unless there is a significant drop in the XL 2 price later on, I will not be getting it.
Really enjoyed the video. Love the Pixel 2 XL specs. Shame about the screen. Shouldn't have to compromise, even if it doesn't affect day to day use. Glad the front firing dual speakers are back, my Nexus 6P has these and they're great for media viewing. I'm still on the Nexus 6P, tempted by a Pixel XL 128GB hoping it also receives a few camera upgrades the XL2 is equipped with.
Probably the least biased review of this phone, and probably the shortest too (compared to other tech RUclipsrs I've subscribed to). Really glad you pointed out the flaws clearly, and backed them up with your research on forums and blogs. Well done!
For what it's worth 6 years later I had my Panda Pixel 2XL for four years until I accidentally destroyed the screen while getting out of my car. Happily upgraded to the 6 and still loving it. As for the 2 XL (which I got in May of 2018, so probably had most display issues resolved), I loved it. Still had that mild "paper" effect, but I found it to be endearing. Any residual "blue shift" issue was nothing compared to the Galaxy S7 I had before. And I loved the "natural" display calibration! Even after the update, I left it at the default mode. It was like dark chocolate vs milk chocolate. It was such a great phone and in my opinion the one that truly set Google hardware in the right direction. Convincing my friends with iPhones that my camera quality was superior was icing on the cake.
Remember when the Third Moto X and the Nexus X came out and the Galaxy S6 dropped in price shortly after released and we were all thinking that the newer phones were going to start getting cheaper... *sigh* At least they're getting noticeably better. Great video!
i watch your reviews even if i'm not going to buy any of those phones, the videos are great feels like you take time to script them. Keep up the good work.
I was supposed to get my XL2 next week but ended up canceling it. I planned on trading in my shattered screen 6P but this week the screen finally stopped working, so I was forced to spend a 150 on a new screen in order to get my un backed up files off the phone. So I figured I might as well keep the practically brand new looking 6p until the XL 2 is fixed.
Sean R I'm actually in the same exact shoes as you except I haven't fixed my screen but I doubt Google is going to fix the anything. Also note that Google said they were going to throw some updates to try and fix the screen issues.
Well hopefully you dump yours before the screen fails. Otherwise replacing the screen is really quite simple. Just a little bit not worth it though. I think we have a year until they stop doing security patches though.
I guess it's harder to see it on the video, but in the pics it was more visible hope it's just temporary or atleast doesn't happen anywhere else. i make tech videos in my channel but i make them a bit different, please check them out if you have some time. I would really appreciate it.
Wow... You can see burn in on a solid gray picture. How often would ANYONE be looking at a solid gray picture? It's not noticeable at all during normal use.
Sanij Nowluck Maybe so, but burn in is still a fact of life for OLED displays. It will happen, regardless of who manufacturers the phone. Hopefully this will be a moot point once Google release their update where the nav bar fades out after a few seconds.
Yeah barring that bad display the phone is just crazy good. I find it quite sad that google made a mistake in one of the most apparent part of the phone. Cmon, people will notice the display issues straight away. The smaller one is a better option if you can live with that bezels lol. I make tech videos in my channel, please check it out if you have some time to spare. I would really really appreciate it.
Received my RMA pixel 2 XL yesterday and the display is way better than my first one. At least this gives me hope it was actually a quality control problem and there are good ones out there don't give up...
Spent two years on my Nexus 6P. Just got the Pixel 2 XL and I don't have any screen issues (the "blue tint" is waaaaaay overblown you can't even see it 95% of the time cause you're LOOKING AT YOUR PHONE THE NORMAL WAY) I'm coming from a Galaxy Note (yes I buy them) and for me, here's the bottom line: I've owned 3 notes, they start off good but the lag gets worse and worse and by month 6 it's like a shitty phone. My highest priority is an Android phone that's QUICK smooth and STAYS THAT WAY. so I got that PLUS the best camera in the biz? Cool I'll take it, even if the screen is only a 7/10 best
DreamLegendary I don't have a profile pic because I recently had my Google acoount deleted by Google, because of their retarded rules and the stalker machine I live with I cant get rid of. (Google Home Mini)
Love your reviews. Always objective and you don't focus so much on specs like a lot of other reviewers! I have the Pixel 2, and although I don't think the XL's screen would have bothered me that much, I'm glad I went for the smaller one instead. The screen is beautiful (especially after coming from an iPhone 6s +)
Mr Mobile I believe you are the next RUclips star! Keep doing what you do, I am watching and I rarely comment on anybody's channel but I felt compelled. Being from Boston is an added bonus. My SSN begins with 016 ..... by the way....
Never have I clicked X of a porn tab this fast before. Been waiting for my revelations on this life and death matter from the one and only, the Tony Stark of RUclips, MrMobile himself.
Why is Mr. Mobile the only RUclipsr I trust in therms of phone reviews? ...you know what? Who cares? He is the most professionel and serious phone reviewer there will ever be. Love you Michael.
Was anyone else a fan of the original pixel hardware. Everyone bashed the glass screen and massive bezels but I was a fan of the design and the bezels don’t bother me if it means that the keyboard is comfortably under my thumbs.
OnePlus wouldn’t put such sharp bezels on their phone. It’s more likely it’s the razer phone since they’ve been hinting at that. Or maybe OnePlus is gonna use sharp corners and I’m just a dumbass. My money is still on the razer phone though.
jar puppy Smart girl. 😀😀 These phones are wayyy overpriced for what they are, esp given the screen issues, and now a problem with NFC and the Oreo 8.1 update.
Your taste in music is fantastic Michael. I occasionally wait to see if any music I haven't heard pops up on your reviews when you're testing the speakers. Lol.
Hey Michael great video as usual but I wanted to point out that the s5 had the same “portrait mode” called selective focus and it too used one camera and the results were just as great in my experience!
Ugly side bazels, no headphone jack, no wireless charging, display issues, weak points in the frame and way too expensive. should I mention more??? who buys this junk?
UPDATE: Google has addressed some of the concerns surrounding the display, and extended the warranty for these devices in certain circumstances. Details: www.androidcentral.com/google-address-pixel-2-xl-screen-issues-set-software-changes

Adam Benko I only know the UK one sorrryy that's on the 17th November. The US should be getting it before that! Looks like the best phone of the year and maybe till end of next year until the next mate comes out 😂
Aon Shah it will be between op5t and mate 10 pro this year for me
Adam Benko True mate, we'll see what the 5T brings
Easily the best tech reviewer out there with his amazing voice and even better editing skills. Thanks again Mr Mobile.
I'm just going to wait for the Pixel 3
same
Lewys Cousins yes. I hope it's perfect until then. I wanted the smaller pixel but not with this design 😞 I just hope they make a good screen and a better design and a second wide angle Lense. Then they've got me
Been having my HTC a9, I need a upgrade. 😂
Go for note8
md zayeem khan Note 8 will lag after a year. Every Samsung phone does.
I've got the Pixel 2XL and it's fantastic. I have no problems with the display at all. Good review.
I gotta say, that opening sequence to the beat of the music was so good I lost count how many times I re-watched it. AND 2 Talking Heads references!!
You are the only reviewer to say anything about call quality. A little info about noise cancellation goes a long way.
Nice review, very disappointed with the screen issues on this phone. I'm holding out for the One Plus 5T.
Amazing review!
Aman Tech Tips he just posted this 1 minute ago. Have some respect and watch the whole video.
Tech Right ok
Probably the least biased review of this phone, and probably the shortest too (compared to other tech RUclipsrs I've subscribed to). Really glad you pointed out the flaws clearly, and backed them up with your research on forums and blogs. Well done!
That's pretty bad. Pixel phones are not budget friendly like the Nexus line, they should have better build quality than Nexus phones.
Pixels are just nexi but with higher price tags. 850USD for this? Nah. Maybe 500-600 like the 6P was. But this is ridiculous.
Convincing my friends with iPhones that my camera quality was superior was icing on the cake.
um, all OLED screens have burn in...
Just watched this on my 2XL and I'm with you. It's all about the experience, the software, and the camera.
Intro is just epic
Yahya Gamal u know the music??
Remember when the Third Moto X and the Nexus X came out and the Galaxy S6 dropped in price shortly after released and we were all thinking that the newer phones were going to start getting cheaper... *sigh* At least they're getting noticeably better. Great video!
The Pixel 2 (non-XL) looks a little like an iPod touch...
Jacob Dachenhaus Yeah, or even worse, a stretched iPhone 4 !! 🤣🤣
i watch your reviews even if i'm not going to buy any of those phones, the videos are great feels like you take time to script them.
Watching on my Pixle 2XL! I gotta say I'm in love with it so far, upgraded to this from my Galaxy S7 edge, good video.
I can barely see the burn in on the actual video
Yeah it's ... stupid difficult to capture on camera. Alex did a much better job of making it plain on his video.
It's not noticeable at all during normal use.
llsa13 yeah.. But that's supposed to happen after several months or even years of usage... Not weeks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sanij Nowluck
Maybe so, but burn in is still a fact of life for OLED displays. It will happen, regardless of who manufacturers the phone. Hopefully this will be a moot point once Google release their update where the nav bar fades out after a few seconds.
and here we go people!!!! the moment we have all been waiting for!!!!! the mr. mobile review!!!
Just got the Pixel 2 XL and I don't have any screen issues (the "blue tint" is waaaaaay overblown you can't even see it 95%
of the time cause you're LOOKING AT YOUR PHONE THE NORMAL WAY)
I'm coming from a Galaxy Note (yes I buy them) and for me, here's the bottom line:
I've owned 3 notes, they start off good but the lag gets worse and worse and by month 6 it's like a shitty phone.
My highest priority is an Android phone that's QUICK smooth and STAYS THAT WAY.
so I got that PLUS the best camera in the biz? Cool I'll take it, even if the screen is only a 7/10 best
DreamLegendary great comment! That's exactly what I think about this phone, I'm getting my Pixel 2 XL on December 🤙👌
LWNahuel I have updated my screen feelings to "the screen is GOOD"
I've watched HDR content on RUclips and it's amazing
DreamLegendary Samsungs only lag, if you get a budget one. Poor shit.
Diyon Fernando you don't even know how to have a actual picture on RUclips, nobody believes your tech expert "level"
😂😂😂
DreamLegendary I don't have a profile pic because I recently had my Google acoount deleted by Google, because of their retarded rules and the stalker machine I live with I cant get rid of. (Google Home Mini)
On your way to 500k subscribers... that's awesome
remove the headphone jack, and see what happens
Love your reviews. Always objective and you don't focus so much on specs like a lot of other reviewers! I have the Pixel 2, and although I don't think the XL's screen would have bothered me that much, I'm glad I went for the smaller one instead. The screen is beautiful (especially after coming from an iPhone 6s +)
Like your opinion Michael
Mr Mobile I believe you are the next RUclips star! Keep doing what you do, I am watching and I rarely comment on anybody's channel but I felt compelled. Being from Boston is an added bonus. My SSN begins with 016 ..... by the way....
At least watching this review of the Pixel 2 XL on the Note 8 makes the Pixel 2 XL display seem fine. Just saying. 🤔
really lively edit of the video! enjoyed it!
Love you Michael.
mystery device is the oneplus 5t, calling it now
Nicolas Raney Razer phone dude.
my money is on one plus 5t
Or the Pixel Ultra!?
It's pretty much guaranteed since they took the 5's out of production. Is there a new processor for them to use though?
definitely not, it to squared for a op5t
Man !! You seriously deserve a hell lot more subscribers
Swoog 😎
CooLoserTech so you're the new spam commenter
Mohammad Zubair Khalid Sheikh just because I watch favorite youtubers and let myself be known I watch them...ok
CooLoserTech OK
Was anyone else a fan of the original pixel hardware. Everyone bashed the glass screen and massive bezels but I was a fan of the design and the bezels don’t bother me if it means that the keyboard is comfortably under my thumbs.
I miss ur podcast @mrmobile
Another great review. Mr Mobile has become my go to phone reviewer these days
No headphone jack, no sale.
Little King Nobody cares.
AGREE
Cbf paying for a phone with so many shortcomings, rather wait for one plus 5T. Was really hoping pixel 2 to be great 😢
I hope every phone removes the headphone jack
It has a removable headphone jack in the box.
Was waiting for your review. Great analysis as always Michael!
The mystery device is the OnePlus 5T 😂
OnePlus wouldn’t put such sharp bezels on their phone. It’s more likely it’s the razer phone since they’ve been hinting at that.
Or maybe OnePlus is gonna use sharp corners and I’m just a dumbass. My money is still on the razer phone though.
Holy moly. This review is the best I have seen for pixel 2. Michael, you are the best.
Love and support from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳
im sticking with my op5 :P
jar puppy Smart girl. 😀😀 These phones are wayyy overpriced for what they are, esp given the screen issues, and now a problem with NFC and the Oreo 8.1 update.
Them tiddys though 🤤
DreeTheGodd ew perv
Your taste in music is fantastic Michael. I occasionally wait to see if any music I haven't heard pops up on your reviews when you're testing the speakers. Lol.
OnePlus 5T? Mystery :)
Parasuraman Wickramarajasingam yaa I think so
I guess Oxygen OS is snappier, although I've never used it :( Let's find out!
:)
That might be correct bro :o
Finally, a review that says, "yes, these are amazing phones, however, they're not perfect." Is that really so hard for the Google fanboys to admit?
HTC U11+ OR ONEPLUS 5T
Thanks for your review video, and I agree that QA has been overlooked. Shame Google, get involved and avoid problems.
Blue Shift isn't an "issue," it's just indicative of the display. Who are all these people who are using their phone at such extreme angles?
I know right? Who the hell cares.
Shobhit Varma the essential phone also lacked the same features
Oh I see what you did with the title there. Very clever. Just one more reason you’re the best.
