At least on the earlier older VW diesels from about 1977 there is a swirl chamber right after the injector that swirl chamber spins the fuel to atomize the Diesel fuel better, but I dont know if Bosch had that swirl for TDI diesels.
I think they don't, bc they are direct injection. The swirl chamber vortex works, but they figured out how to spray straight inside the combustion chamber better.
great video man, I have a 1.6 diesel and my injection pump has been pissing diesel, so i am replacing it with one from the turbo diesel, will the compression be the same for the non turbo diesel, between .039 and .041?
It's probably because I'm an American, but i don't understand what you say (pump timing) when you say turn the engine back a 1/8 turn or until the pointer on the flywheel is about half tenish?
Pump timing is in regards to the actual fuel injection pump on the engine, this can be adjusted advance or retarded in a similar way to an ignition distributor on a petrol engine.
Thats the worst way to do it, you need to make sure the marks line up and are correct, theres no guarantee that it was right before so to mark it and swap over is wrong
This video makes it very clear but im so nervous to do it myself!
Take your time when your doing it, have faith in yourself 👍
between the cam and pump you twist the belt 90 degrees for the right tension, that is in the Bentley manual too
You have to make sure the cold start lever is all the way the cam shaft can be 180 degrees out as well learned that the hard way lol

are you not supposed to loosen the cam bolt when tightinging the tensioner??
The cam bolt you can loosen you can tilt that and that gives you leway, that is actually in the Bentley Diesel manual Well for the USA Rabbit diesels.
Awesome video! Exactly what i was looking for!
Cool, hope it helps
Good video ! I’ve made myself a fuel pump lock piece 🎉
So the timing belt tensioner. I thought you had to turn it clockwise when tightening the belt not counter clockwise?
Thanks ,good concise video
Very good video . I’ve a gtd mk2 too very interesting
Thanks
Am I mistaking, did you said 0,40 pump lift? I guess it’s an SB engine right?
Stock was 0.037" and it was set to 0.040"
@@GreyGooseRestorations I believe it should be 0,90+-0,2. For an stock SB engine
0.037" (0.93mm) stock
0.040 (1.01mm) Performance setting
great video thanks!
Perfect! Thank U!!!
Golf mk2 turbo diesel ararım su hortumlarıda şişme var herşeyini değiştirmeye rağmen çare bulamıyorum
Is it overheating?
To change the front engine seals, do I need to remove the timing belt?
Yes, it all needs to be removed
@@GreyGooseRestorations is it worth bothering if they’re not leaking? Or should I change them if I’m doing timing belt anyways? Do they wear much?
If there bone dry then leave them be

@@GreyGooseRestorationsuna consulta amigo .cuánto se le da en mm al reloj de avance .saludos
Any idea where you can get these dial guages?
I just rebuilt my GTD but i cant get it started, im guessing it could be the pump timing
Any decent online retailer will sell good ones, machincemart, amazon, ebay etc
@@GreyGooseRestorations thanks, do yiu know what they’re called?
@MK2GolfStories Dial gauge or dial indicator
Thanks awesome video doing my pump now...
I need that engine how much
Don't even have a diesel, came here cause i made the mistake of taking my belts off before taking the water pump pulleys off 🤦🏻😂
Update, used a strap wrench and it came off so easily
You should have marked the old belt and the pulleys, then just transfer the marks to the new belt. Makes it a whole lot easier and faster
