I grew up in SW Michigan less than 2 hours from Chicago. This series happened when I was on my 8th grade class trip and we watched the first 3 games of this series in the Lodge on the Big TV. I'll never ever forget every moment of every game of this series. Good times. The best.

The Pistons weren't old at all - they were in their prime. The Bulls simply became better - Pippen, Grant, Paxon and other team members stopped being afraid of the Pistons' rudeness. they supported Jordan and crushed the Pistons.
The Pistons let Chicago win this series hands down -- they went out on their own terms...all they did was calmly step out of the way and allow the NBA to flourish.

This is my point about the Pistons/Bulls match-ups, especially in '91. Thomas had to step aside due to him being the President of the Player's Association -- so what does that mean? He was the guy sitting down with the owners on behalf of the players to make sure the players get a 53% revenue share with the new NBC/NBA contract; Thomas was the guy who hired a military accountant to make sure the owners were not hiding any monies owed to the players....Plus, Thomas was the guy making sure the the players would get their penalties owed, bonuses, and control their likeness and images while profiting off of it financially, not to mention the health care benefits and royalties he negotiated for the players. That's Isiah Thomas: He was running the league on behalf of the players, he made sure agents got less money of player contracts -- so Thomas had real power, which is why the media portrayed him in a negative light and their team in a negative light, even though the Pistons' colors were red, white, and blue. HAHAHAA!... See, this was throughout the 80's into the 90's.... This is why you saw around 1992-93 and throughout the 90's rookies making $40-$60M guaranteed.
See, Jordan was the guy who would open up the floodgates because he always was great at selling products through global corporations -- the problem is Isiah Thomas is beating Jordan every year so what happens prior to the 1990-91 season? Well, the NBA enacted the 'flagrant foul' rule -- 2 shots and the ball if a foul was deemed excessive; also prior to that season, Chuck Daly was named Olympic Team coach, even though Riley had more rings. HAHAHHA! ....So what happened in Jan of 1991? Thomas goes out with a wrist injury; he had a scaphoid injury - just look up that injury and what causes it. So he missed 34 games and the rehab is like 8 weeks or something after surgery...well Thomas came back in April of '91. HAHAHA... So what made him come back?...Remember if you go back to articles during that day, they said Thomas would miss the rest of the season...So what made him come back? See, if he's not there and Chicago wins without playing Detroit, it doesn't validate Jordan or if they play and Thomas isn't there it still doesn't validate Mike....So this is why Thomas 'stepped aside' to help Jordan win so the league and players could flourish, he didn't have a choice so this is why that entire team, led by Isiah Thomas initiated a sweep by not shooting and Daly not playing his front line guys major minutes -- that was the Pistons' part, the refs did their thing in giving Chicago a 117-76 foul shot attempt advantage, so even if both teams shot 100% from the line, no way Detroit could have won any of the first 3 games.
This is the truth of what actually happened. It would be like Jordan just taking 9 shots in game 1 and 9 shots in game 2 while Pippen (like Dumars) took just 10 shots in game 1 and just 10 shots in game 3 while Phil Jackson played Grant (as Daly did Edwards) only 11 minutes in game 1 and just 9 minutes in game 3 and playing Cartwright (as Daly did with Salley) only 9 minutes in game 2.
Now if Chicago did that in '91, it would be obvious or if they did that in '93 vs. the Knicks, nobody would say Ewing overcame Jordan, people would know it was obvious that Jordan would have to step aside and he didn't in '93 because it was Ewing/Barkley's turn just like Magic won in '87 and '88 and was 'injured' and gave it to Thomas and Thomas won in '89 and '90 and was 'injured' and gave it to Jordan...well Jordan couldn't let go in '93 so he had to retire. You see?
