What a wonderful kitchen, congratulations. !! If you have only renovated 20% of the house, you are fulfilling the prophecy about carpenters, which says that "the carpenter's house is always the last to be renovated and that the work is never finished." 👍💪💪

The voiceover was a best decision you guys took. This has helped us to be more connected to your work, as we can understand what you are actually doing. Language is very important and if there is a barrier, that might affect your following. I personally subscribed because of the English voiceover. Thank you for that -- as it complements your beautiful work / craft.

I would love for everyone watching this video to take the time to recognize how clean and orderly his work zone is. It’s because he’s not rushing to get the task done, he’s enjoying every process and taking the time to be totally present.

I enjoy Shoyan voice overs. It's calm and soothing.
Reminds me of my late grandfather.
His voice was always calm. He never yelled at me. I miss him dearly.

Don’t take for granted the time you get spending and learning from your father. Ive been a carpenter over 20 years and his craftsmanship is some of the best I’ve seen. I recently found this channel and it’s top notch. Reminds me of the Japanese version of “Essential Craftsman”

you have created a great living space, and now you have created another. I am not sure how to categorize the commentary as a self-criticism but you did great at 26, and you did great now. I would love to hear from your wife, even anonymously, how she feels about the new home. One question as we have a saying in germany: The shoemakers kids have no shoes. Did you delay renovations due to your regular work? The question itself is no criticism, life is life and sometimes you just want to have your peace.

  • @NealeOBrien

I can not put into words how much I enjoy this Channel; I have been watching it from the start! Shoyan san is an excellent carpenter and his work is always of the highest standard,
It is nice to watch him refurbishing his own house after seeing all the new work he has done in previous episodes.
He looks about my age, and must be thinking about retirement - don't do it!!! Retirement is going to kill me as I loved being at work and loved what I did. 😥
Please don't ask us to get involved in a family disagreement; it's not our house and we don't have to live there. I love it though; everything about the renovation is beautiful and it's another perfect job. May you have many more years of your craft Daiku san. You have my respect, my admiration and my thanks.

The old one wasn't bad for being 40 years old, but the remodel has very clean lines and a good combination of warm wood and modern cabinets. Thankfully our kitchen is at most just going to get new backing around the sink. For doing nearly everything yourself with some help along the way, a month is a very fast timeline as it is!

A masterpiece by a great master carpenter! I still cringe every time a dead straight piece of beautiful wood is cut out to be discarded for a new replacement. To think that you had access to such wonderful wood four decades ago and it was used as if it was common pine in the US! The wood used in this restoration is absolutely amazing, such quality is either unattainable or so expensive that only a very rich person could afford it here. The camera work and quality with the skills of the artist are incredible and I continue to admire all the videos! Thank you Shoyan for sharing your art. 😊

Thank you for this film. The kitchen from 40 years ago was very nice, still. I am so impressed by your skills and very thorough building, and the different tricks to achieve this. Being a Swede we are so obsessed with moisture/cold that i miss some steps in your building scheme, for instance - we put a moisture barrier next to the inner wall/ceiling/floor structure to evade moisture and mould (sometimes even cold/Ice expansion with breakage) in the structure, we normally have much thicker insulation everywhere and a protective barrier at the bottom of the floor structure. But I have learned that building is a very local sport, if we go to our neighboring countries, they have other standards and habits... Yet thank you for som very good films, I am following you with great pleasure.

it's a great renovation to hear your design choices and compromises with your family or the materials available. I too find the lower counters a challenge and also the lack of power outlets for more electronic inclined the modern lifestyles are.
Your inspectors must still appreciate your refined access panel. The fresh wood must smell incredible there too.
