From the previous episode you might remember that the ghoul friend went feral because he didn't have the drug. (he mentioned that protagonst ghoul always had a way to have enough) The seamonster gubber thing crushed the main ghouls drug supply. Thus he might be out to find new drugs. Apparently 200+ years of being a radioactive ghoul monster (who get shot on sight by the Brotherhood) had an effect on the ghouls morals.
