Hey, an old VW sandrail guy here, on Michelle's buggy, whenever you go from stock oil cooler to remote, you need to change the oil pump to a high volume pump, or when you get in the dunes and get it hot you will lose oil pressure.
I knew someone was bound to comment on this so I started reading. Absolutely true. Doesn't matter which year or size either, happens almost every single time.
I hope sean sticks around for the forseeable future. He just seems like a trustworthy guy you can rely on to get things done. Great addition to the team Edit: is sean the correct spelling? you guys mentioned a fan who sent you something and you joked that he spells his name the right way.
I hope this isn't taken as rude, I just want to say that Michelle's diet is working. I'm glad to see that and it gives me inspiration. It's not easy to loose weight and I'm almost 50 making it even harder. We all know it can be done, but it's nice to see it in action good job Michelle.
@@mikekraan823 absolutely. I'm trying to lose weight so that i feel better and can live longer. Has nothing to do with beauty. That my friend is only skin deep.

Yep! I have a feeling there are going to be some really sore people by the end of Glamis...but it will be soreness earned through fun and sharing moments to last a lifetime. That is the one thing I like and notice with Fab Rats...everyone may not realize it...but they will all look back someday and realize how rich a life they have...money is just a tool to enable you to do what you love. Fab Rats seem to know that, and getting family and friends involved to take part is a joy to watch.
I have to tell you this video just saved me a ton of fabrication and some serious cutting on a customers sandrail. I ordered low back RCI seats and every time I climbed in it my head hit. Those brackets for Michelle's sandrail set a light bulb off. I went out to the shop and the way you guys did her seat brackets will work the same. Thanks a million for the videos and the idea. Stealing it. 😅
An old Sand Rail enthusiast friend of my dad's, in Eastern Washington State, got after me for grabbing the steering wheel from the inside because if you hit something hard enough with a steering tire it can snap the steering wheel around like a gyro and break your fingers or hand. He warned me a couple times but I still learned the hard way! No broken bones but it hurt like heck and I had a nasty bruise across the back of my hand. Love following along with your journey and watching your videos from up here in Alaska :)
Hey FabRats kids: you likely don’t realize how lucky you are to have a dad teaching you how to build and fix things, and an amazing mom who supports it all! Man, I sure wish my dad did some of these things as life would have been a lot more fun and interesting. Make sure you tell them how much you appreciate them.
You have a talented crew. Give yourself a chance and get the motors and all squared away before you go. I realize that trouble makes popular content, but as someone who has run buggies at Glamis, it's a lot more fun when they last for the whole trip. Glamis is a blast. Broke or running, you're going to have a great time.
I think it should be light blue. Walmart sales a color called oasis blue and I love it! We need to see Michelle in more videos. Maybe she can make a paint video for us with grandma lolly!!!
Matching sand rails for Paul & Michelle I mean in color. Michelle has a good heart, she totally enjoyed that drive in the sand rail. Nice to see Michelle again hope to see name that part with Michelle. Sorry hunter a little history lesson it's called flat stock. Need to give Hunter a part where you name materials. Hunters a smart kid not trying to bust his balls. Landon is definitely going to follow in Paul's footsteps 💯🤙
It’s good to see Michelle back in a video. With all the people that are going, I bet all the buggies will be running when you get back. There’s gonna be too many mechanics for them not to be running.
Michelle looks adorable in your buddies sand rail! Your doing a nice job on fixing your friends' rail! Paul...your truly a good friend ! Thanks for the great video!
An old trick for the solex carbs was the dollar ninety eight tune up if you think there’s a blocked jet..get her running and rev it full bore then put your hand over the carb mouth til it starts to die .then rev it again til it smooths out then repeat .it usually cures most blockages in these carbs ..the vacuum pulls through every jet and airway to clear a blockage when you rev and put your hand over the mouth of the carb ..cured most of the problems I ever had with them solex carbs not idling or running right ..🏴🇺🇸👍
That's so funny about the tape measures. Well when you tell half a million people you need something your bound to get a few. Keep up the good work, I love this channel and the variety of projects.
Paul great job on all the rails. Passion Pink Michelle. There are so many comedians in the shop today. Paul look on the bright side you can place a tape measure in every vehicle you own, and you will have no problem taking care of all of them. Paul, you did a lot of work on the rails looking good. You all will have fun. Paul what would you expect out of Hunter.
And Paul not only has a wonderful business partner in Michelle, but she can drive standard! That’s one out of 100 today maybe one out of a couple thousand❤️❤️❤️🔥🇺🇸
I am amazed with the little fuel tanks that these buggies have. My old buggy had a early model beetle fuel tank with the big cap mounted behind the seats. We could spend a three day weekend at Flat River, driving around the state park, and never need fuel.
Keep them around, because the way you let them snap back they are prone to breaking off the tip. Much love and blessings to all ❤️ Stay safe everyone 🤘😎
LOL, this reminds me of the jet ski trip but with sand rails. Of the seven buggies I think you will get back with five running. I'm looking forward to the video!
I really like that buggy you picked up in Vegas. That thing is badass looking. Plus it's all painted up and done up really nice. I like the tires and rims. All you guys have to do is little odds and ends put a new motor on it and you guys are on your way. That thing's a Butte.😊😊. Keep up the good work guys and I'll keep watching.
After the birthday bash, you should keep one of these chassis around and swap an LS4 into it. That's the front wheel drive 5.3 and 4L60 that would be in a 2010's Chevy Impala SS and several other things. The front engine front wheel drive should make for a fairly simple swap to the rear engine rear drive platform.
never heard of a sandrail before, then saw one cleetus's channel, then matt's, here, and i think rudy has a video out with one, and i'm here for it, learning and enjoying the videos!
3 Beetles, 2 Passats, a Meyers Manx and a diesel Rabbit pickup. I miss them all but the Passats (wife’s cars). I loved the air cooled VW’s so really enjoyed this episode. Now it’s Toyota pickup and Subaru Forester, stuff happens when your old.
hey guys- long time supporter from Nova scotia, the Michelle paint job is a fantastic idea, what about expanding on this and let everyone paint their own rigs and make a vid out of that? i did not check all the comments, i am sure someone said the the same lol.
Michelle's rail needs to have some snazzy to it's paint job! Multi-color red, blue, pink, purple, white & gray combos & personalized with her name Fab Rats logo. Yes all of that on those skinny rails. (:
Hot pink for Michelle's buggy and I think 5 will still be running. I grew up by Glamis so I know the fun you guys and gals are going to have. Most of the time we went buggying in Baja though you can't beat being on the beach camping and buggying but that was 40+ years ago things may have changed down there.
The first sandrail I ever saw was when I was 12 years old, and it was a REALLY NICE buggy. Back then it was like a $35,000 buggy, so that's like a $100,000 buggy now. We were at some old phosphate mining pits that had some really steep hills going down into it and coming back up was not easy! The guy gave me a ride in it and he went straight down into the old mining pit. and when we came back up that buggy stood straight up in the air when it crested the top of that steep hill, and I was hooked! lol. The owner, Jerry, thought he was going to scare me, but it didn't, all he did was cause me to want to do that every day from then on. lol.
Cool to see this VW action. My uncle is like a VW OG guy here in Michigan. Pete Hubbard. Engines, chassis, everything. Always loved seeing badass buggy builds as a kid
I think Michael should paint her buggy here favorite color and keep the tractor tires on the front floor better steering and the looks. Love you guys and I hope everyone has a great time.
2 1/2 will still be running and driveable when you return, You will have to get creative to be able to haul all 7 there. Paul and Sean will need some rest time when you get back after trying to keep them all running as long as possible. The first one down will become the parts buggy for the others. It should be an interesting and fun weekend. A lot of food will be required to feed everyone. Playing and turning wrenches burns the calories.
Yes: That flat-blade small screwdriver is how you take off the throw-out bearing clips. There are some mounting points for bolting an oil cooler on to the top of the block. All the VW places sell an aluminum block that bolts on and has threaded holes for hose fittings, but you could easily fabricate such a beast. The normal way to add an external cooler is to get an oil pump with a tapped cover and plug the exit hole. Then you run that to the external cooler and an oil filter. The return is through one of the case plugs that you tap. Be careful about idling or running in traffic jams: The old cooler in the fan shroud got air flow from the fan. Your external cooler won't. The safe way is to leave the little cooler in the fan shroud and add an external one for driving.
My first car was my 66 bug, slowly rebuilding it now. Always love the sound of a beetle engine with a stinger, brings back memories of when we use to mess about with them as teenagers. I wish I was in the US and able to go to sand dunes and rip around in a buggy.
Thank you. This was a great video.Corvette Blue Michelle, that may be a nice color . Going to be a lot of fun I am sure of that .Keep on making great entertainment and video's they are great
Wow, 50+ tape measures, & all those white markers, you'll be able to cut right length every time now.🤣😂. just love those V dubs,- about the most amount of fun per dollar you can find. Oh yeah, I guess four of seven will be running at the end.😀
Michelle should paint the sand rail the same color as her Jeepster. Then, if she feels like towing the sand rail to the dunes with her Jeepster they'd match. Not to mention she'd already have the paint on hand.

Michelle wheelin' a sand rail...PERFECT! Drive it like you stole it Michelle...kick butt, petal to the metal, catch a little air! (Not too much though.)
I think Michelle should paint it plum crazy purple with a shade of pink. And as to how many come back running well hope but more so hope every one comes back unbruised and happy
