This is a great book. It has massive detail from Reich documents and personal diaries with lots of insightful perspective on the many aspects of Hitler's life both personal and political, the political and social landscape of Germany at large, as well as the major military and political personalties of Germany in the 30’s and 40’s from a top news journalist (CBS) who lived there. It details the cruelty and manipulative nature of high politics with chilling honesty. It recounts the willingness of industry to support, with its technology, the mass exterminations. It shows the powerful effect of Goebel’s deceptive propaganda and Hitler’s social manipulations on the German people with their reluctance and enthusiasm about socialism and the prospect of going to war. It is amazing how such a complex book can be such a compelling read. Highly recommended.
Always thought the swastika on the cover was in poor taste. It always looks odd displayed on a bookshelf. In the dark comedy film Neighbors starring John Belushi he has one on his shelf

It's the single most appropriate symbol for this work. If it bothers you, you shouldn't read history. It can be distasteful.
