    This game is like the Ace Combat Assault Horizon of James Bond games
    On its own, the games aren’t exactly terrible or anything, but putting a well established name on the cover gave it high expectations that couldn’t be reached

    • @LOfTheLancaster
      @LOfTheLancaster 2 года назад +34

      I just wanna put this out here: originally, I wanted to say something along the lines of "ACAH's biggest sin is more that it was a massive deviation from the commonly accepted Ace Combat formula while GERA's is more that it is extremely barebones compared to what a 007 game can/usually offers", and I still stand by that statement, but honestly I don't have a ground to stand on since I'm nowhere as familiar to any of the James Bond games compared to AC. I _do_ know what a James Bond game _looks_ like, and what makes them different to any other FPS games on a surface level, but I don't have a hands-on experience of them and what makes them click.

      If you're into what they are AC's are (bar ACAH) excellent original games, polished, and full of content.

    I was highly disapointed by this too, more so as EA had the audacity to stick "GoldenEye" on the title, when everyone had been begging for an actual GoldenEye sequel for over a decade by that point, so they were already off to a bad start slapping fans in the face.

      @@wintermute8315 Here's a better question, why do people like you always insist on finger-pointing at content creators whenever they post entirely benign comments on someone else's video?
      There's practically nothing separating them from the droves of users who are posting similarly pedestrian views in the comment sections, the only difference is that one set of individuals have checkmarks next to their names whilst the others don't. And apparently, that's enough for y'all to accuse the former of having an ulterior motive of wanting to reel in new subscribers if they so much as breathe outside of their own channel space. The idea that Timesplitters Future Perfect got snubbed for THIS game hurts me, especially considering how much I enjoyed and played Future Perfect growing up[ even if I never got to play it online. But as you said, the marketing people and others had a job to do, even if they (I hope) realized it was a load of bollocks. Oh what might have been if Free Radical were given a fair chance and didn't end up dying at Haze's hands.
    Also host a Timesplitters online match some time with XLink Kai dang it-

      "the marketing people and others had a job to do"
      Yeah, and if they were doing their jobs even HALFWAY properly, they would see that FRD went ABOVE AND BEYOND for Future Perfect. But because of this GARBAGE marketing decision, I got to first hear about Timesplitters... In a pawn shop's used games section YEARS after its release. And this too even with GE:RA's team just wanting to forget the game existed even before GE:RA's launch. So the marketing money went to a game that everyone involved wanted to forget, and Free Radical Design got shafted AGAIN.
      I swear, what happened to FRD is SO fucked up and is one of the absolute saddest stories in game development history.

    Incredible video. As someone who has worked in the entertainment industry, when my friends are complaining about video games, how bad they are, how they were rushed, how they didn’t live up to the hype, it’s always difficult for me to articulate how this type of stuff happens. This video needs to be watched by everyone in the industry currently as well as people who are enjoying the games/the consumer.
    Yes, people do pay lip service to the idea that it’s not the developer‘s fault it’s the publisher, but still there is this undertone of entitlement and anger that makes its way to the people on the ground floor who are creating these games. Imagine that you spend years working overtime dealing with crunch, to then have the money people Force you to release a subpar product.
    Not only did you see your creation get tarnished but now you get to sit by and watch everybody trash on your work. The talent behind this game is undeniable. And there’s no way that it was the intention of the development team to release a game that people would not enjoy, much less live up to its namesake. This video capture is the fundamental problem with the gaming industry currently.

      I agree. I think if someone did a newer version of the game with current tech and built around that on-paper rogue agent-goldfinger vs doctor no, you would have something with some legit punching power that people would absolutely love. Like imagine how much more creative you could be, and furthermore I could definitely see ways you could adjust the gameplay and animations to help give character to the protagonist in game and out of game. Less single slap and taking a human shield to throw, and more cinematic takedowns like doom, character moments to help flesh out the dynamics and personality traits. Not just told “oh…this person frequently resolves matters with brutality.” Have maybe a flashback or prologue mission where we see him going from calm coordinated and skilled stealth and silent take downs straight out of the mi6 playbook to a heightened level of brutality after being shot by dr no, with dirty fighting, savage executions, and taking known gadgets like the laser watch and using them as part of those executions. Burning faces with the laser watch, gouging eyes before snapping their necks, garotting or ruthlessly stabbing with a stealth kill, even just caving in someone’s skull with the butt of your weapon repeatedly, or shooting their kneecaps before headshotting them. Granted what I suggested there would all raise the age rating for certain, but considering you are a bond supervillain, brutality should come with the territory.
      Just my thoughts. I know I lack the skill and understanding to make something like that, but it would certainly make for something I would be interested in.

    Aaah rogue agent... the unofficial death of the 007 game series (followed by the lackluster "From Russia with Love" and whatever the hell Activision tried to do afterwards.)
    Please IO-Interactive... do this series justice.
    Also, I only briefly skimmed for the time being, but did you give your thoughts on the multiplayer? Weirdly enough - when I went back and captured footage of the splitscreen, we genuinely had fun with some of the maps. The traps they used in the arenas were a great idea that I'd love to see return in the future. And I loved how they recreated so many iconic areas from the film series for those maps too. Still crap compared to Nightfire or Goldeneye - but better than Everything or Nothing's absurd CCTV camera brawls

    Goldeneye: Rogue Agent has always been the very first game that comes to mind for me whenever someone asks "What's a game you like but everyone else hates?" I've always loved its style, the "THUDDATHUDDATHUDDAPEW" of the Commando rifle, the death traps which make the levels themselves have a certain level strategic consideration especially in multiplayer, and yeah, the soundtrack is a bit samey, but I always thought it went pretty hard (to be fair I was already a fan of Paul Oakenfold's music like Ready Steady Go) and I occasionally re-listen to it to this day, many an afternoon was spent in the multiplayer just like the original goldeneye 64 for me.
    Even despite me agreeing with most of what this video has said about it, I'm not surprised in the slightest there was such talent behind it despite me not knowing until now exactly to what extent of talent was behind it. It's one of my most replayed games from the 6th gen even though I agree it's somewhat repetitive.

    This was one of the games I considered part of my childhood. Looking back, it was extremely frustrating to play through this Campaign, and even my brother and I weren't too impressed with the split screen multiplayer, as we often split screened PS2 shooters like Nightfire and Battlefront 2. The shooting in and of itself felt pretty good and there was something about the style of the game that just felt kinda cool, which was probably why I kept playing it despite its flaws.

    EA was always a trash publisher but back in the 90s and 2000s they had to release good games. Today they have a monopoly on sport games (Madden, FIFA) so they basically can make trash and get away with it. Let me remind you that even back in the 90s evil was a trash company closing down studios and ruining devs. They screwed over Richard Garriot back in the late 80s.

  • @justagamerhun2228
    @justagamerhun2228 11 месяцев назад +3

    You ranted a game because it is a way too basic shooter inspired from Halo 1. I'm gonna be honest, the Rouge Agent is not a bad game, and I accept if somebody not like it but heavily not if someones says it is a bad game because of its weird "bumped up aim"-system or because it is a repetitive shooter. This game was obviously made to be different, and it's because they wanted make a game for everyone, with nice graphics (It does look good on a CRT), well done maps and encounters which were alright and sometimes unique, with not a big amount of weapon, but to make it more "cool" they added dual wielding, which I think was fun to use. There were special weapons, and I think they were cool, and you found them cool as well. The gameplay wasn't about shooting and also wasn't a hard one, but this game is more like a hack 'n slash as a shooter instead (this explains the actual great ragdoll physics, but sadly bodies last short till they despawn) of a fixed hallway through map shooter, giving you limited amount of ammo in your weapons forcing you to either loot, either switch, either run out from ammo and use your basic pistol as a weapon. The game gives you "super powers" including wall hack, shield, etc. with limited use, as it needed to charge and i think it was cool, and unique idea. The soundtrack was boring, but it actually was not at the same time, and i explain why. The musics you played in were only played per map parts making you hear them a lot less, and were also only made, so you will be tuned to kill enemies, so I think it wasn't that bad for if they only played in map parts, which were they. I actually forgot the executions in the game, but trust me it was cool and satisfying, and through the game you will unlock an ability that can turn of the enemies weapon and can trigger these remotely.
    The characters and the story, well if not well made, but it isn't actually the main part of the game so it is acceptable. At least we get some cutscenes, even if they aren't the best, trust me, i saw worse than that.
    Oh and you played the game on easy, which I can tell from the game footage, and it was obviously boring you should try hard or if I remember correctly there was a hardcore mode, the experience will probably change, and probably you will too.

      If it helps, the footage is a Hard Playthrough on OG Xbox (marked by slightly lower quality, and mostly no auto-aim), and a 360 Backwards Compat playthrough on Normal. In both cases, the game plays the same, Hard mode doesn't add any new gameplay dynamics, it just bumps numbers slightly, and Rogue Agent needs a lot more than that to make its combat model meet the standards of games at the time like Halo.
