I have this mag 20 feet away from me right now. Bought it from the store when I was in highschool lol. I have about 200 of these mags ...including a June 1984 gftpm mag with Randy Rhoads on the cover. 🤟
I was taking lessons from Joel back in 93. Great guy. Great teacher. Amazing guitar player. What is more amazing is that although he plays the guitar righty, he writes with his left hand.
I lived in a recording studio in Palmdale CA, in 1988, Russ Parrish was up there recording something with Jeff from Racer X and some other people. He is one of the best players I have ever seen in person. He is SO much better than he is perceived to be. Absolutely SICK player.
I have this magazine, and like many, couldn't believe what a disservice it was to any aspiring guitarist who wanted to excel. But the interviews with Satriani and Scorpions were well worth keeping the magazine. I believe that Soldano ad featured Hot 100 amps, and if so they were very affordable at the time. Hosono Guitar Works shut down in the mid or late 90's. Tak Hosono now heads the Ibanez custom shop in Los Angeles.
I watched TSO back in 2019. It was with the other group not Joel's. A couple of great albums besides "I can't look away" are Brad Gillis - Gill Rock Ranch, Jeff Watson - lone Ranger.
My drummer plays in the Raiding The Rock Vault show with Joel, here in Vegas. I’m always joking with her about how she can share a stage with Joel and then still want me to be the guitarist in our band. He’s a monster player!
I remember back in the 90’s playing local gigs and the whole shred is dead. I never let it affect me. I kept ripping, dive bombing, Squealing, tapping and doing what I like. People always seemed to enjoy it. It’s safe to say that to this day I’m still doing the same thing. lol. They wanted shred to die but I think it held up as good as any other fake news in the 90’s. For Blind Melon to say that about Nuno is quite hilarious. They couldn’t change his strings. Great interview as usual.
Yes they told me shred is dead, metal is dead, rock is dead, hard-rock is dead, so many time !!!!!! Here we are 35 years later who’s dead ? None of them.
I’m a 90’s guy. Grew up on grunge, nu metal, pop punk, and guitar solos were not cool when i was a teenager learning guitar. We considered shredders to be stuck in the 80’s and i never understood the obsession with playing fast
I remember Shrapnel Records as signing 'Shred Metal' artists and I loved it. Shred, to me, was playing super fast and clean. I used to say, 'I want to be able to shred some day.' So, no, for me and my circle of friends, shred was a badge earned from many hours in shred shed. Some people hated it, but that didnt make it an insult. SHAME: Fire and Ice: Loved it. No idea what the guy is talking about. Fresh sound for YJM. Nitro: I think they were supposed to be somewhat tongue and cheek, with their tall wigs, triple neck guitars, etc. Still, vocalist was as insane as Angelo-Batio. Poison: Poor CC. He tried so hard. Still they had some great hits. Whitesnake: To this day I dont even know if I like that album. It went a weird direction away from hard rock and more towards the Led Zepplin era of rock.
I would take that “bad mouthing” part of the magazine with a grain of salt. It reads more like editorial trying to create some controversy and trying to angsty. Most media was immature did whatever they could to attract readership. I’m sure guitar mags were hurting in sales by that year. I still ate all those magazines up though! Loved browsing them over and over. Miss them!
Bro love the channel but can please stop the VAN HALEN AMP plug. We get it dude. Sorry if you cant sell them all but its enough. We know you have them. We get it. Please man.
Shred is not DEAD! :) Trying to keep it going! Thank you for this cool video my brother! Here is my band IronWrath and I made point to continue shred in this day and age! lol ruclips.net/video/o1-Hp36JVJM/видео.htmlsi=fjkkun4NR4aypiCC

ART(Applied Research and Technology) was huge in the rack effects era of the late 80's early 90's.

You gotta shred to know when to stop shredding. Lol.
Shame on you,you should have talked about Ozric Tentacles, there entire catalogue is Shred, there were there on the page and you both just waffled on about bloody Yes.
Shred bashing is insecurity plain and simple!
The whole music industry is dead
