  • Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 7:45 am forecast. Good morning and happy Thursday. We’ve had rain on and off for the last few days and that will once again continue today. Isolated showers might pass through our area this morning, but the main time frame is around lunch time and later this afternoon. Showers will still be lingering through the evening and then clearing out. Skies are mostly cloudy early this morning, but if we end up seeing some sunshine again today, that will help high temps to be near 90. If skies are overcast all day, then the high temp might only reach the mid or upper 80s. We had occasional heavier downpours the last couple of days and that is likely again for today and tomorrow. Some areas receiving more rain in addition to grounds already being saturated from previous rain are all factors in the flash flooding risk for today and the next couple of days. We’ve been having rain for the last few days because of persistent southerly/southwesterly wind flow has brought in more Gulf moisture. More moisture leads to an increase in rain. We’ve had this set-up over the last few days because of a shortwave trough that’s situated over our area. It’s sandwiched between a ridge of high pressure well east of us and a ridge of high pressure west of us. Once the ridge of high pressure that’s east of us starts moving over our area, we’ll have drier and hotter weather. But for now, we still have more rain to deal with. The Greater Baton Rouge area is split between a marginal risk (¼) and a slight risk (2/4) for flash flooding today. The Greater Baton Rouge area is under a marginal risk (¼) for flash flooding for Friday. Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s tomorrow through Sunday. This weekend won’t be completely dry, but it is possible that we’ll have less rain. High pressure will build in over our area around the beginning to middle of next week. That will help temperatures to rise slightly into the mid 90s. Although we won’t have completely rain-free days, we may have lower rain chances (around 40%) for this weekend and around 20%-30% for early next week. Just to recap, we have a few more days of rain, but we’ll have drier weather around the beginning and middle of next week. Tracking the tropics: No tropical development is expected over the next 7 days. Thanks for watching. Have a triumphant Thursday!
