  • Isaac takes his new custom 6.8 Western and tests out different ammo for grouping. There were two rounds that stood out, one with potential, and one that didn't pass the test.

This round is going to catch like a wild fire once people start looking into the round and seeing the foot pounds at 500 yards! I had no idea it was an updated .270 WSM, because the next rifle I was going to build was going to be the .270 WSM but now I am 100% going to be buying a Christensen Ridgeline or the Titanium in the 6.8 Western and then I was going to throw on a Gunwerks can on it, I was shocked to see how quiet it made the rifle on top of making the rifle group tighter! YES! The can makes rifles shoot tighter groups!

I really hope so! I'd like to see some more ammo options soon. What they have right now though are pretty solid, and if you reload there's a ton of options.

It really should catch on, due to its ballistic merits, but I don’t think it will because of its non-Hornady pedigree. I’m really afraid it’s going to be killed by the 6.5 and 7 PRC.

I’d stay away from anything made by Christian Arms. Too many issues with QC and accuracy. I have a 6.8 W in a Browning Bolt and love it!

I'm commenting before I finished the video but please tell me you cleaned and stripped the barrel before shooting the all copper rounds? That will greatly hinder accuracy if you shoot them after standard cup/core bullets or vice versa

  • @michaelhull63

Shoot the copper extremes in the first group not the last then compare the first group to the last group you'll be surprised

  • @Fshnmndan95
    @Fshnmndan95 Месяц назад

In the future strip and clean your barrel between bullets. Fire 3 to foul then shoot your 3-5 shot group after barrel has cooled. This will show you what the gun is actually doing with each of those round. Again VERY important when tested standard bullets and all copper bullets

  • @michaelfalconer2816

If you shoot solid copper through it you need to clean the barrel before you put lead core bullets through it or you won't get the best groups out of it you can get. I don't know the science behind it, that's just how it is.

All I can find is the 162 grains. Killed 2 deer so far, both between 300 and 400 yards. Realllly been looking for the other ammo to see if it shoots even better. Xbolt max lr 26in heavy fluted
Edit: the second deer was a cull buck at 380 yards. I made a low heart shot and the exit wound was just barely larger than a quarter. He ran 35-40 yards and left a golf ball sized chunk of heart on the road. The copper impact performed very well. Interested to see how they do when they hit bone

Interesting to see the different groupings. Great Video! Ive only shot my 6.8 with the Copper Impacts (Im in CA we have to use lead-free for hunting) but so far almost every group is sub MOA and thankfully my gun likes the ammo. Im stoked to try out different loads.

Nice! I'm really excited about this gun. I'd definitely recommend trying out a few different types of ammo if you can...I realize your choices are limited due to state laws, but if something else shoots a little better and you are gonna do an out of state hunt you could switch for that hunt.

Thanks for the info. I'm most likely going for a Christensen Arms Mesa FFT 20" barrel and going to be running suppressed. It'll be interesting to see what runs best for me. Happy holidays!

My hell's canyon loves the 162 copper and 175 browning Sierras under .5 group too bad I bought 6 boxes of accubonds

That's an awesome group! Haha...it always seems to work out that way. I really like the accubonds, all I've shot with my .257 Weatherby. I really wanted my gun to like them. They just didn't group like the silverips. I was getting .25" groups with the silvertips.

I'm going to be shooting closer to 175's as I can just to have that thump and flight. I think the best groups I saw were some hand load 172 grain. Thanks for posting these groups

Ya, I ended up going with the 170 gr ballistic tips. They ended up grouping the best for me after doing more shooting. I probably could've gone with the 175 gr gamekings no problem though

That’s been my experience that the 175 game king shoots the best. The 170 ballistic silver tip shoots pretty good the 170 burger shoots pretty good the 165 ABLR’s shoot good but not great and the 162‘s are trash.
I double lunged a cow elk at about 185Y last season with the 175 grain game king and it did fantastic. Huge exit wound and lots of blood and she only went 30 yards.

Nice! Sounds a lot like how mine shoots. For me the ballistic silver tips just edged out the game kings, but I could really go either way.

Glad you put this video out there. So far I've only been able to test the 162Gr Copper Impacts and the 175Gr Browning Sierra Game Kings in my Browning X bolt speed. Of the two, the 175's were much tighter groups. I really wanna try the Winchester Expedition Big Game Long Range 165Gr that use Nosler Accubonds, but haven't seen them anywhere.

Thanks, and thanks for watching! After shooting a little more the gun really likes the Sierras and silvertips pretty much the same. Both were getting three round groups with all three holes touching. I went with the Silvertips because they are available locally right now.
