      Maybe not better just a bit tougher, may break less, and hold their value more. Not big points honestly if HF works fine for you.

    Yes, the Icon pawl is stronger. Just look at the surface area that it covers. The dual pawls only engage one at a time, and the Icon single pawl engages all at once.

      Tool in Hand welcome to the channel! Great feedback. I suspect you are right. I just wish they placed the gear from the Quinn into the Icon for both its quick release and larger mass equating to better strength.

    a guy on here tested them and the icon is a lot stronger than the other 2

      Maybe my Icon was designed badly as it really didn't perform that much different. About 10 ft LB batter but thats about it.

    The difference too between the Quin and the Pittsburgh is that the Pittsburgh is a low profile ratchet for tighter places whereas the Quin is thicker. The Pawls on the Pittsburg use more teeth to obtain strength and the Quin uses less but longer teeth netting, most probably, an equal amount of strength between the two. Excellent review though, you got my subscribe.

      Joe, great points! Thanks for subscribing! Please be sure to watch the series to see my final thoughts on these ratchets. I put them against a torture device and their performance speaks for it's self. Again thank you for subscribing.

    I really don't understand why you don't compare apples to apples. The Pittsburgh has the exact same model that comes with a set of sockets as does that Quinn model that you are reviewing. On all of RUclips I can't seem to find anyone that compares apples to apples. The only video is done by Tony the Tech. But he does very little comparison such as a breakdown video like you did or a taking them to the failure point. I sure wish somebody would.

    • @edtheoldtechguy
      @edtheoldtechguy  4 года назад +1

      Ivan thanks for the comment. Videos on those ratchets will be coming soon. I do have some and they have worked well for me. Obviously not as good as blue point or 120xp from gear wrench but it is a good budget ratchet none the less.

      Also for my final thoughts on how these ratchets perform may I suggest you watch this video as it is the one where I stress tested them. ruclips.net/video/0puvQW8jyrQ/видео.html

    I humbly disagree. The fact that the switch is correct on the Icon makes it the better ratchet. The Icon also having 90 tooth is such a big win. The quick release is cool and I hope icon will add it at some point. I just got the 1/2 comfort flex head, can’t wait to break it in.
    I haven’t been able to find any 3/8 comfort flex head ratchets, not even online. Are they still on recall or is the demand too high?

    • @edtheoldtechguy

      Alain, welcome to the channel. I love to hear all opinions. That's what makes this channel great. Hey I dont disagree with you and I dont believe I did in the video either. The icon is technically a better ratchet. 90 tooth, switch, stamping all excellent but is it the better value for the money? I dont think so and that's the message I wanted to convey. If you want the best from harbor freight yes buy the icon but if you want the best value Pittsburgh or Quinn give you more when compared cent by cent. Again just my opinion and not saying you are wrong either, a disagreement is not negative it makes things fun when its constructive. Nothing but love for you and I hope you stay for a while and subscribe to see more of my videos. I bet you will like the content coming up.

    Excellent, excellent, excellent.!!... This is the kind of video that will do very well. Additionally the material (alloy) properties such as hardness yield strength etc. need consideration to help engineer a good tool. Many other varriables become driving factors such as manufacturing cost and the tools various applications in the field. Keep up the good work.!!... Thumbs up.!!

      Pappy wow I am humbled, thank you Sir. I am really enjoying making content it's actually a fun relaxing hobby. Yes you are correct I should have considered the type of alloy and steel used. Stay tuned for some testing, I have plans.

    Old craftsman ratchets never had a stamp on them telling us which way to go so that is irreverent to me. All the HF ratchets in my opinion are of better quality then the old Sears Craftsman too so that is a win to me.

    The Quinn is to expensive for what you get. It's a generic ratchet that can be had for several Dollars on AliExpress and such.
    There is absolutely nothing wrong with the (design of the) Pittsburgh Pro.
    The only way to be absolutely sure how strong a ratchet is, is by testing it to it's breaking point. And there will be a difference but not a difference you will experience in every day use. Except for when throw a pipe on it every day.
    And that's all by experience of selling tools for several years and knowing their designs.

    • @edtheoldtechguy
      @edtheoldtechguy  4 года назад +1

      Richard, I appreciate the input. This is why I am doing this ratchet series so we may have the discussions and learn from each other. Stay tuned for some of the ratchet testing on future videos.
      My favorite budget ratchet has always been the Pittsburgh pro and this was a tough call. I don't think there was anything wrong with it at all. I just like the quick release on the Quinn and larger gear. For ~ $20 you get all the sockets too. I have been using the Quinn sockets and ratchet as my daily driver. Spoiler so far they have performed very well. Been working on a few cars and projects. More to come on how they are doing in future videos. Hope you stay for a while and I would love more of your insights.

      having the pits pro and the icon i have to say the icon is superior. the throw is shorter, its smoother and in a way it simply feels better.

      I got the Quinn set for $20 and think it’s a great value for that price.
