      What does Red Sox Nation think about offering Bregman/Alonso a 3 year deal with a high AAV?
      Maybe some opt outs for the player after years 1 and 2 that could be countered by a club option adding extra years, if the player is playing exceptionally well.
      Say 100M for Bregman or 85M for Alonso.
      There would still be some movement needed by the Sox infield or trade Masa mid summer once he has built back up his value.
      Alternatively, maybe the easiest is just pay for Teo or Santander.
      One more closer type is needed as well.
      I get the feeling Sox are just biding their time and letting the market get smaller for these other players, hoping to swoop in late Jan to grab some discounts, like JD Martinez a few years back.

    I think the rib injury is spooking them. I mean he literally tore the cartilage swinging at a pitch and I think they may be worried it will happen again.
    However if Casas is healthy this year, controls the zone and has 40+ homers I think the Sox will be less likely to move him. Success changes everything. Yes Casas is a free spirit… so was Manny… so was Spaceman Bill Lee and Steve “Psycho” Lyons. The Sox need to embrace these kind of players when they deliver the goods.

    • @saltygrampy
      @saltygrampy 23 дня назад +2

      His injury was such a flukie thing. I've been watching baseball for 50 years, and I can't remember that happening to anyone else. I've heard of tearing muscles around the ribcage, but not what he did. He is a good player and seems like a nice kid. Hopefully, he will be a part of a championship team in Boston soon and enjoys being there enough to stay around for a while.

    • @redseatradio
      @redseatradio  23 дня назад +3

      Yeah honestly I don’t know maybe it is, and maybe it is spooking other teams. To me that is even more reason to wait. If he proves it isn’t an issue then his talent cost just gets even higher

    • @markbailly8627
      @markbailly8627 22 дня назад

      @@redseatradioI think possibly they might be thinking that going forward, it will affect the way he swings, being that maybe he'll be a bit gun shy thinking it could happen again. Also, to a lesser degree, it seemed like he was out longer than they would have liked and his way in the early days of his rehabbing were more mentally getting ready than physically getting ready. I know this seemed to annoy Cora a bit. Also, his refusal to sign a team friendly contract buying out maybe an extra year or two before he hits free agency like Raphaela and Bello signed. Maybe all those things in unison make him tradable in the right deal for them. I hate the idea too, but what if they're planning on throwing big money at Vladdy in free agency and figure they can get by till that happens. I'd almost rather see them take someone like Refsnyder or Campbell or even Roman and give them 1st base reps to see if they could learn it, rather than move Devers over there and teach him something he's never done and from what his agent has said, it sounds like it would piss him off moving to 1st or DH, when he's still in his 20s. I say keep Casas there. Don't create a hole to fill another hole.

    I wouldn’t put too much stock into this. I could be misunderstanding something but it sounds to me like the Red Sox asked the Mariners what it would take to get Castillo. The Mariners said “Casas”, to which the Sox replied, “If you’re taking Casas, you’re taking Yoshida too.” The Mariners said “no” and that was the end.
    If anything, this shows that the Red Sox value Casas highly. “If you want this really good player, you ought to be willing to take on this bad contract, ‘cause that’s how good he is” type of thing.

  • @Versatilty

Steamer projects Yoshida with a 2025 WAR of 1.2, Triston Casas with a WAR of 2.4 and Luis Castillo with a WAR of 2.8.

      @@FrodohTBaggins Why at 18 mil a year can't Yoshida just bust his ass and learn how to become a better defensive player? Is he really THAT bad? If so, didn't they scout him at all in Japan and know he wouldn't be able to play anything but DH and if so, why would they give a guy like that 18 mil for 5 years? Sounds like a huge overpay considering no other teams were bidding against them, at that level. Add it to the list of Bloom blunders. Betts trade, Sale trade, overpaid for Yoshida, Story and Devers. Sure, he had high draft picks because his teams sucked, yet never drafted any pitching. How do you construct a team of mostly lefty bats for a place like Fenway? I’m surprised he didn’t bring Bobby Valentine back instead of Cora.

    • @JBDSoulFighter
      @JBDSoulFighter 22 дня назад +2

      Yes, he did do a lot of things wrong, but Devers wasn’t an overpay or a bad extension. Yoshida just came off of an MVP and a super good season in 40 less games than the mlb plays. Story was a really good player before the Red Sox signed him. Then he hasn’t played over 100 games in any season since. And Bloom drafted crazy players. Roman Anthony wasn’t really a high draft and super high potential guy until the Red Sox drafted him. Same exact thing with Kristian Campbell. The Sale trade was Craig Breslow, not Bloom. Yes, the Betts trade was horrendous. And I will never forgive someone who traded away my all time favorite player EVER. And we got NOTHING in return. But Bloom did do a lot of things right

    Certainly agree that Castillo is being overvalued with the steady decline and scary home/away splits… just a thought on Casas’ value that may be worth considering-is there a chance he’s a bad clubhouse guy, and that’s part of the reason the Sox are more willing to let him go? I remember there being reports on him frustrating teammates last year, and I’m curious if that’s part of the reason Breslow doesn’t value him quite as much as his numbers would suggest.
    Either way, it seems as if Yoshida in the DH role is what’s keeping Boston from signing Teoscar at this point, so it appears the Sox need to find someone to take him before Teoscar signs elsewhere.

    Seattle's perspective on trade is very different. Casas is unproven and Yoshida overpaid DH. They'll want a decent prospect to make it happen. I think that's crazy but it all depends on which side you are on.

    I don’t fully agree with them trying to trade Casas and am glad they didn’t. They probably felt like they had internal options for first in Raffy which I get, because there aren’t internal options for a true #2. Hopefully Houck can develop into it, but Bello and Crawford are not #2 options.

      Not so sure. A left-handed infielder with severe splits on a team that is too left-handed and probably looking to bring up two infield prospects (Campbell and Mayer) this year and other moderately high-ceiling young players (Grissom, Hamilton) already on payroll. Teoscar makes a lot more sense to me for these reasons.

    Dude a possibility was the Red Sox really wanting to rid themselves of Yoshida…. He’s locking up a very important OF/DH spot (for Roman Anthony or Teoscar who’s now gone) with little upside and for lots of $$$. We’d be able to sign a true DH or power righty or have mobility as a roster with him traded. I think that’s the key here but just me thinking

    Casas will be much more han just 40 HR potential. A conservative 600 AB season could be 90 R, 31 HR, 95 RBI, .280 AVG, and solid defense.
    Trading Casas in general is unnecessary. Find a trade partner that needs a SS/OF and offer Mayer, Abreu, and Crawford. I'd do that for Jared Jones, Bryan Woo, anyone like them.

    You would rather believe that Breslow is ignorant or has a “break in logic” than to assume there is a legit reason (probably clubhouse related).
    I know you’re an ardent defender of his quirky actions, but how about assume it’s just because he’s not gelling with the team. The nail-painting and sunbathing alone isn’t it, but when you combine it with his handling of the rib injury and his blatant lies to the media about his recovery, this just isn’t a guy the team can trust.
    Instead of assuming Breslow is stupid, perhaps consider he knows a lot more than you and has likely spoken to multiple players who privately said, “Please get this guy out of here.”

    We have heard multiple times from
    Multiple reporters that Sox were looking to trade Casas and were turning over all stoned in their quest for pitching
    And this proposed trade was in winter meetings when Goldy Nate Lowe Josh Naylor we’re still available and with their former teams
    Castillo would have been a legit#2 after Crochet and getting rid of Yoshida contract and taking on Castillo contract would only cost Sox 17M over 3 years

    Not a horrible trade. Actually, makes sense on a lot of areas. Frees up roster spots for a right hander power bat far more easily. There are still plenty of first basement on the market. Also, frees up payroll to spend in better places, including a right hander power bat. It's would've brought in an arm that may have been questionable, but a greater need that is worth the risk. And it would've been for someone clogging the lineup and someone with questionable durability. Can't see how this doesn't make sense.
    The lack of seeing the forest through the trees is why I typically skip trade theory videos on RUclips.

    That Trade was not bad. We have to be realistic. Red Sox need right hand bat. Casas and Yoshida will open the opportunity to get right hand bat. The problem here is two left hand bat have to go. Duran, Abreu, Casas, Yoshida, Devers. Two have to go. Plus Anthony and Mayer are Left hand. How you can balances the line up. How you can add having this team. We have to be realistic.

    Next time plug this trade into baseballtradevalues. This trade really looks super bad. Baseballtradevalues has the wrong salary for Castillo to begin with. If Yoshida is healthy+producing 1.5 WAR per year. His value would be 4.5WAR x 8 million per 1 WAR = 36 value -55.5 million salary= -19.5 true value. Casas is worth 29.6 million. Yoshida 's -19.5 +Castillo's 2 million value(which is being generous by baseballtradevalues) gives a trade 21.5 million for Casas '29.6 million value. I hope you can follow my logic. I could more reasonable see a Yoshida+Hamilton +5 million trade dump. I see more realistic playing with Yoshida for 2-4 months with Roman Anthony in Worcester cutting down their salary dump cost.
