it aint just the current that twists your line, catfish deathroll when theyre hooked and to chew pieces of meat off dead shit thats sank to the bottom. always run a swivel for kitties.

Richard, one more question, What do you think about eating fish out of the Tennessee River between Guntersville Dam and Wheeler Dam? I would eat them 35 years ago but with all of the industry there now I am not sure. What is your opinion ?
In Alabama they have a website where they test fish from all the rivers and share info. It tells how many fish per month you can safely eat and shares what they are measuring.

I used to never use anything smaller than 8 pound line. But after watching your videos for so long I have been using 6lb and 4lb test mono a lot more and I am glad I did. Its so much more fun. And makes you a better fisherman.
I love the fact that this is pretty much a poor man's fishing. So often, you have some guy in a $65,000 boat, a $300 rod and reel, $2250 trolling motor, and then you got this guy with a $27 reel on a $30 rod in a jon boat. So much fun!

Right man. For some reason people want to get in a spitting contest over gear these days. But the reality is, nobody needs $5-a-piece hooks and a $1200 combo with $120 line to catch good fish. I've caught thousands of fish on "cheap" equipment though, I've been using higher end gear for the past few years. No amount of money can make up for technique and the last thing anybody should do is worry about impressing his buddies with a blooming fishing rod.

I grew up on the Missouri River. Dad was a commercial fisherman and most of my time was spent as a boat pilot running up & down the ole muddy from net to net. Once all the hoop nets were raised & checked and re-set we’d set trammel nets behind the dykes and sit on them for hours. Dad wasn’t much of a sport fisherman but when he did fish rod & reel it was always like what you are doing here. He used light tackle. Never failed he’d boat monsters. I remember one summer afternoon we were tied off at the mouth of the Moreau, dad set the hook on a cat, the rod bent nearly in two and then nothing, it was like time froze. That old cat just hunkered down on bottom and didn’t move. 15 minutes later the water boiled and I laid my eyes on a trophy flathead. I was only 14 at the time and was literally awe struck watching dad horse that old yellow cat into the boat without a net. At the time I didn’t have the patience he had, he’d let them fight and tore them out, it was sorta magical. Now I have kids and we still live on the Mighty MO, my boy fishes now and all we do is rod & reel. I enjoyed your video. Keep it up. Love how clean and mod free tour boat is.

I usually fish bass, started fishing for channels in NY and caught 2 decent size channels on liver. Got a question, can I use bluegill as bait that I catch from a different body of water? Will they still eat it if it’s from a different body of water? Dumb question ik lol

I Lost my grandfather to complications do to covid last December, he’s the one who shared his love of fishing with my brother and I. We’d go on trips to Canada together for walleye and I caught my first catfish out of his pond as a kid. Every since I’ve found This channel I feel like I have some guidance and humor that I lost when my grandfather passed. I really love the videos man

Hot dogs made with cheddar cheese on a #4 or a #2 treble hook have been my "go-to" since the mid 1980's. Nailed a 79lb blue at Lake Livingston, TX with that bait.

I tell you want this is what I consider a old timer with so much knowledge theres nothing that he says that is wrong some of these other guys catch catfish but don't know a dorsal fin from a anal fin about other species he's my favorite fisherman period.... ITS GOOD FOR YEEAAA

As a kid we would spend 2-6 weeks camping isolated areas eating mostly what we caught which was catfish. We would have get a lot for 7 people but had little problem. We had little money so saved up all year then take very little food mostly bean, rice, flour and corn meal plus lots of water. The beans and rice was for half way through the camping trip and some times an old timer would turn up after following his nose. We always had a big pot with hammocks (my mom would drive to get some). Funny how many people would show up out of no where. By the late 70s camping any place was to dangerous even with guns the crazies, criminals, druggies and drunks ruined it. What got me people would get mad they could not catch fish then start a fight over why we won't give up our fish or secret spots. Worse day or night one person had to be armed and watch out for thieves or idiots.
