Today I brought you guys along my experience during sorority recruitment/rush at Indiana University. In no way am I posting this video to persuade anyone's opinions or decisions made in terms of Greek Life, this is merely me sharing my thoughts on what I went through! I hope you all enjoy!

I went through rush at IU and dropped. The process is rough and emotionally draining. Some sororities are very toxic and it’s good you aren’t going to put yourself through that. I did go through informal and I did find a sorority that was so fun and not as prissy as the others. Regardless, there are so many other opportunities than a sorority. You know what’s best for yourself. Im sorry the process wasn’t better. I will honestly say I’m surprised it was due to your RUclips because in the past some wanted girls because of the following. But in the end it’s their loss because you seem like such a genuine woman.
Glad to hear you found a house that was right for you! Yeah it's a little strange but I think it's more of Panhellenic that doesn't like people with platforms because it's a "liability" but regardless I'm not stressing anymore :)

Had this exact experience happen to me at the university of Arkansas last year and your emotions are completely valid. When I tell you I had the exact same thing happen to you happen to me. Even with my friends getting what they want and I didn’t. Happy that you did what felt right! Proud of you dude, it’s freaking hard!

You are so real. And your positive outlook on life comes through in this video. It sometimes just takes a little time to find the light again when bad things happen, which you do. My daughter is a friend of yours at IU and you have really been super helpful to her with her difficult rush experience as well. For those who follow you or find your channel, this honest video is not only great from an educational prospective about rush at IU but also from an emotional level too because it is a scary and difficult process for all. For future PNM's to know that they are not alone, or lesser of a person than others whose luck turns out better should this happen to them, will help so many girls going forward. Best to you Tamara! I went through rush at Purdue and I’ve felt the same exact way. I made a video about the process and my struggles with it. I ended up dropping two weeks after being the house. It was not right for me but it was so hard to leave. You make me feel so much better about my choice because Greek life isn’t everything! Good for you putting yourself first!!
Tamara, I'm so sorry things didn't work out as you had planned. I truly believe EVERYTHING happens for a reason. You will thrive with or without them! It was truly their loss and I hate that your channel/platform wasn't seen in a more positive light because you truly are the most real, POSITIVE, and truly genuine RUclipsr/person all around. I know it’s disappointing because this was something that you were looking forward to. However, putting yourself out there by stepping out of your comfort zone is something to be proud of because it is not easy. At least, you tried and you experienced sorority rush. It might be disheartening, but I’m sure that bigger opportunities will be coming your way! 😊
Also, here’s an affirmation for whenever you experiencing a setback in life. You can read as little or as much needed.

I am sorry this happened to you i have never been through rush or any from of Greek life myself but i truly empathize with you in this situation. Seeing your positivity radiant through this video as a first time viewer lets me know you could’ve truly helped those houses and would’ve brought such a positive change but they aren’t willing to see that! Go where you’re wanted and where you feel secure! They don’t deserve a you or your craft wishing you the best 💕

I'm a freshman at IU and I dropped rush because of the unnecessary stress it was causing me. my friend had the same experience in having very good conversations and thought she had great connections but they dropped her too, it can be such a cruel process :(
I just wanted to jump on here and say you made the right choice. I rushed at Purdue over 10 years ago and ended up getting a bid from my second choice. Instead of saying no thank you like my gut was telling me, I went through a whole semester never feeling like I wanted to be there. To know what is important to you at 18 or 19 is so great. I wish I had that confidence then. Good luck with your semester and you earned a new subscriber!

GIRLLLLL- I went through the recruitment process at my school as well. While I had a good experience and accepted a bid to my sorority, I will fully admit that this process is draining and BRUTAL! Half the time it feels like you’re stuck in middle school again trying to be friends with the cool girls and they are just plain fake to your face! I loved my time being in my sorority but if I ever had to put myself through that process again, I wouldn’t do it. You are you and that’s what matters most! Shame on those girls for making you feel unworthy just because of your content. Which I should also add, is amazing! You are simply you in your videos and you can tell. Don’t let them get you down. They definitely missed out on having you!

Hi! I just jumped on here to see how much rush has changed. I am an IU alum/Alpha Phi that rushed in 1999 and 2000, because back then we started rush in November in person going to all 19 houses in 2 days and then came back early from winter break to complete the process. I can’t believe how different things are now!!!

Had the similar rush experience at IU 3 decades ago (IU Kelley SOB class of ‘91) 😊 my advice that brought peace is to focus on fact that at school size of IU a small percentage is Greek…found my people by diving into other activities I enjoyed & it was meant to be my path…keep chin up & invest in friendships

You can always explore joining as alumnae initiate. I joined last year a sorority at the age of 37 it was better timing and better experience because as an undergrad I felt at that time I couldn’t fit in. Don’t give up if you want to join :)
lets keep it a buck, sororities like to recruit people they deem as followers or sheeps, they knew of your channel, your influence and saw that as threatening because clearly you can influence people and alter personas. Their loss not yours!

How ridiculous that a person with so much to offer would be cut from any house. The Rush system is so brutal. I want my daughter to join a sorority, but stories like this make me realize it may not be the best advice. I think it's insane that the IU system is set up to willingly cut so many young women. At least at other campuses there are enough spots for all who rush. Best Wishes to you-- truly their loss ❤

Also as someone who has managed rush for Panhellenic it is literally data driven a girl can be one for every single house but it kind of depends on every single girls ratings how it shakes out.
Oh my goodness. You are not alone in your experience. When I got to college I just knew I was going to be in a sorority and it was going to be picture perfect but the first day 8/12 houses dropped me and they were my top 8. The second day I was left with my bottom 3, then bottom 2. The only house that wouldn’t drop me was the house I was a legacy to. Rush was a very hard experience but I hope looking back you can have peace about your decision like I do now.

as somebody who rushed last semester through formal rush...you did the right thing!!!!! I understand the nerves, anxiety and frustration. I didn't get back my #1 but I was lucky i fell in love with my #2. But you stuck to your gut, and I commend you for that!!!!! is there COB? Like informal rush? That could be an opportunity to get sororities to know you better if you really want to pursue it-- BUT you do you girl! Own and claim that :)

Everything happens for a reason! They didn’t want you because of your channel? Good! your channel will grow and grow and so will your popularity. Because of that, YOU will grow as a person too and get amazing opportunities and eventually get the life you want and deserve! Those sororities will only hold you back from becoming the person you want to be! Your work ethic will for RUclips will help you get your dream life!

Everything happens for a reason but I definitely feel it was unfair of those houses to drop you because of your RUclips channel. On that note I do really recommend going through the informal rush process for anyone who gets dropped by the house they really love. Most of the time it is a number game and not necessarily the house not wanting you. I just went through the formal recruitment process myself and was also dropped by one of my top houses. So I ended up dropping out because I didn’t want to join a sorority I didn’t 100% love. Fast forward a couple weeks later and that same sorority was participating in informal recruitment. While rush was draining I decided to try. Long story short I ended up getting a bid and have had the time of my life since. Honestly the informal process in my opinion was way better then the formal because you get more time to talk and learn more about the sorority and they get to learn more about you. Overall, I encourage everyone to give informal rush a chance if you didn’t get the sorority you wanted.

I've rushed twice now. The first time, I got dropped by every single house at my school except for one after the first round. The second time, it went so great, like actually amazing until pref round when I only had one house and it was my last choice the whole time through. All the houses I'd made connections with dropped me, and I like seeing your mindset about it because I still have moments where I just wonder what was wrong with me. Thank you for sharing your experience, I think there is too much hyper-positivity about the rush process on social media, and we don't really get to see the reality that SO many girls actually do have a disappointing experience.
honestly they're so dumb, having someone with a social media presence like you showing their sorority would have reaalllyy benefited them (especially because the way you show your life is in such a aspirational and positive light). but tbh if they dropped you for something like this and lead you on like that the whole time, that just seems a bit toxic, close-minded, and tbh not enjoyable to be a part of (which, after a certain point, I feel like the majority end up feeling this way about their sorority).
Unfortunately some girls are jelly of everyone and anything...

Hi love- I went through recruitment at IU for the FOURTH time this year as a sophomore. It was so rough. I kept asking myself why I would be going back to a process that has disappointed me so many times. I now am in a chapter I’m so excited about. But it was absolute HELL to get to this point. There were so many moments this recruitment cycle where I wanted to drop and instead I stuck it out and tried to give the houses I went to a fair chance. That being said, there is nothing wrong with not being in a sorority, I’ve done it for three semesters now and had an awesome time. Wishing you the best, I’m sorry the process is so shitty, because every PNM deserves to find a home. It’s okay if that means you choose to drop and make your own home here.
OMG I love your videos Tamara! I came across them a couple of months ago and i binged them and have continued to keep up with them since! I will say your videos at IU are very convincing on whether I should apply or not. I do have just one question, did you submit a common app essay for you IU application or just what they required?
I go to IU and I got some friends at Sororities. Trust me, your not missing out on much. You can definitely still have fun hitting up house parties and bars. Frats and Soririties are overrated af

I went through rush at mizzou and I balled my eyes out so much for houses dropping me. I ended up dropping too but COB after the houses and am now in the best place where I belong and I’m very happy. Little did I know your conversations don’t matter and it’s not personal when they drop you… it’s a cruel process Ngl
