- Hopper Read talking to Christopher Martin-Jenkins about his cricket career. Read represented Essex in the 1930s and for a short time was considered the fastest bowler in England. He played one Test for England against South Africa in 1935.
This is precious. Do market these videos better. Even many cricket enthusiasts may not be aware of these names. "Essex tearaway fast bowler from the 30s" or something like that.
Love these interviews.precious.He did them just in time.enjoyed graveney Applegate and this.Trust more to come. For a cricket buff.......priceless
Wonderful for the cricket history nerd. CMG's kindly, gentle prompting questions lets Hopper give us these gems.
A very enjoyable watch, and how interviews should be conducted. How the World has changed.
What a lovely man Hopper Read was
CMJ asks some dumb questions - especially when he asks Read if Nichols was kept out of the England side by Wally Hammond.....Hammond was a batsman (a great bat) who could bowl a bit. Nichols was a frontline bowler, who could bat a bit. There is no equivalence for one of them to replace the other
Hopper died in 2000 just short of his 90th birthday.
