Sammy Hagar & Michael Anthony on The Top Live Songs from For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

- This was the first record We actually took our time to write and record. I think pound for a pound, or song for a song. it might be my favorite. Andy Johns engineered this record and sonically it's big & fat. We worked harder on this record than any record, not because it was a struggle. But because we wanted to make (as Andy John said) the definitive Van Halen record. It especially sounds good really loud. - Sammy
We were able to take our time to write and record this record, and one of the things I especially liked about the recording process was having Andy Johns engineer and co-produce with us. Being a bass player himself, he got me a big fat sound that I had never had on previous records!! Definitely one of my favorite Van Halen albums!!! - Michael

I could listen to Mike and Sammy talk all day about the Van Hagar albums .....
In and out!!!🇧🇷🇬🇧👏a what song!!
Yeah, me too
I'm right there with you , loved those albums and never get tired of hearing them EVER ! lol
They’re such cool, laid back, down to earth guys unlike David Lee Roth. DLR speaks English but I still can’t understand him!
Yeah, me too also.
Sammy, you guys wrote these songs in the 80's and 90's, but your music will stand the test of time. Even when I hear it today on the radio, it is still relavate. Your guys music will live on forever! THANKS RIP Eddie
So very true! Slamming Sammy. You go!❤
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was a POWERHOUSE of an album.....You could HEAR Mike's BASS right up there & combined with Alex's drum sound it was just unstoppable....& Ed was firing on all cylinders....With E-bow,,,With DRILLS with Great PIANO Riffs, & of course the Beautiful 316 for his new son Wolfgang ....GREAT recording................p.s.....HELLO Money the dog....lol
"Dream Is Over" is sneaky good.
One of my favorites from this era of the band. Great chorus!
I doubt they ll play dream another dream this summer...or judgement day....but hey... I can hope
Yes, great song! One of my favs off this album.
Yeah they forgot that one what if I wrote after that song, Dreams are gone forever, for both VH singers!
Love ❤that song,it does sneak up on ya,lol! Then stays in my head all day❤️🔥
Poundcake and Right Now are some of the most kick-ass songs I’ve had the pleasure of listening to.
Greetings from Jundiaí, Brazil 🙏🙏🙏
It ain't Van Halen without Sammy and Mike.
1985-1996 Sammy Hagar era can never be neglected, can't be depreciated by other fans because it's part of Van Halen legacy,
Cheers
I agree with ya.
Well said! I don't indulge any fan who wants me to choose - Roth or Hagar? My answer is BOTH!! It's 2 different era's, and both great!!! Today we celebrate VH F_CK with Sammy and Michael. Amazing music and record. ROCK!!!
My feelings exactly...very well put....
lol nope…DLR era is the legacy of Van Halen…
B.S.
Sammy and Mike are pure class. Great to hear their thoughts about stuff. A shame Ed didn't open up more that way but I guess that's who he was.
Runaround is my favorite from that record.
The Dream Is Over was a great track
One of my favorite albums 🤘🏻great from start to finish.
Those two dudes are great together and I love to listen to them talk about their VH days.
I remember how excited I was for this record to come out like it was yesterday. That tour was my first concert ever.
Time frigging fly's!!!!!!!!!. Sammy I still haven't met you and Michael yet. You two guys along with FCUK really make it feel like summertime. I remember listening to this CD everyday when I got home from work: the breeze blowing, the smell of the beach, the peaceful feeling of the atmosphere really brought out the 4D experience of life. I wouldn't trade or sell growing up in San Diego for anything. Thanks Sammy and Mike for making the Summer nights and my Radio.
Met em both twice...awesome guys...i won tics to be on stage with Sammy in London ont at outdoor show...awesome times!!!🍻😜👍
Right Now was unstoppable when it came out. Sammy is the best.
I remember when it came out...that piano intro gave me goosebumps, made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck..in a good way..I can't say that any other piano intro has ever had that effect on me....
@@dyer2cycle Not to mention the message. Makes me want to record music, and follow through on my dream. Because you only live once and why not. At the time you couldn't escape it. Every Nike commercial, every sporting event, on the radio constantly. But, it never felt overplayed like some stuff can.
Great Rockers 1st time seeing SAMMY was 79 and VAN HALEN mosters of Rock tour in 89 at Candlestick Park San Francisco then lost count of SAMMY at the Cowpalace and cal expo Sacramento, concord solo 96 and on and on that's what keeps me Rockin my les paul you guys ROCK
Fantastic album, still enjoy listening to it as often as possible.
You guys are my favorite in music industry, Sammy I'm from Fontana California to, spent many years there, hope you guys are around another 25 yrs!
Right Now was/is EPIC...it grabbed me the first time I heard it...still my favorite VH song, and I love MANY of them!
Such great tracks! Love these guys!
I love these little clips from Sammy and Mikey, always so laid back and just chilling hanging out shooting the breeze.... love it. Truely great friends in real life you can see it.
Looking forward to seeing you guys this August in Cincinnati. I am so pumped!! Thanks for all the great songs. They will live forever.
Would love to see Judgement Day get back into a live set. Incredible tune.
Especially the first minute and a half..
Impossible without EVH
Top of the World = phenomenal
Right Now and Jugement day are my favorites from this album. Greetings to Sammy and Michael
Judgement Day was my favorite. Absolutely loved that live.
Hey Sammy and Mikey y’all were the class of VH
No VH without EVH
The music the 4 of you made was so special, and unique., and without sounding corny but the Universe aligned, or whatever powers came together, and you 4 were brought together and recorded amazing music, that couldn't have been done with anyone else. You can go to a professional sporting event without hearing bytes of "Right Now" or "Top of the World" "Summer Nights" and more. VH music will continue on forever. ❤ all of you guys, and we all miss Sir Edward, and we miss Alex, and his drumming, often overlooked when we talk about VH songs because of Eddie's guitar playing, bir it was Al's drumming that pushed and was the rhythm behind it all.
So cool to hear Mike and Sammy give this history. They're really smart guys.
I admire you for your talents. Joe Walsh said it best in referenced to "Real musicians playing real instruments. No auto tune". You are masters and will always be here for us to remember where we were when we heard your music for the first time and were very lucky that you have shared your gift with the world. "Remember The Hero's"!! Rock On and Thank You! 👏🎶🎸🎹🎙️🎼👌❤️
Powerfull album !!!
One Masterpiece !!!
They played the whole album on The Live Right Here Right Now Concert video.
Sammy & Michael, your friendship produces great Rock and Roll.... can't wait until your New Jersey show... John from New Jersey your #1 Fan
My brother and I have our VIP packages for the upcoming Dallas show.
Van Halen will never die because of the two of you!! Thank you for a lifetime of assume music that generation after generation will listen to. Sammy we’ll see you later this year if my health allows, till then keep rocken
The older that Michael and Sammy get, the cooler they get. Love these guys. Rock on.
These 2 guys Mike and Sammy are 2 of the all time greatest musicians on the planet. I've been a fan of these guys since the late 70's (46 years) Thanks for all the music gentlemen. You are the greatest !
The best album ! Thanks a lot!
You guys are awesome ❤❤❤❤
Coming to see you at Red Rocks in August, all the way from Rhode Island. Can't wait!
In 1991 people were starving for VH, especially in Canada. Think about it, they played Toronto in 1986 for 5150 but didn't come to Canada for OU812. So 1991 was the first time in five years up North eh 😅 I remember going to the record store on release day then spending the next week trying to figure out what the drill was on Poundcake 😂 🤟 When did we get old?
Van halen ruled Canada 🇨🇦
Great Stories and insight on your songs and playing out live. Keep kicking ass Boyz! Can’t wait to see you all next year in Massachusetts! 🤘🏻🎸🎤🤘🏻
This is such a treat,l just love these guys ❤. This is the first clip lve seen this morning 😁,my day is now complete 🌹🌹🌹! Let's do it again tomorrow, lol🎸❤️🔥😜!
Hell yeH!! Can't wait to see you guys on the tour!! Rock on my fellow string benders!
THE best album
In and Out !
Please do more VH talk here guys!
DLR is thinkin, "I shoulda came out with a box set, too!"
Ahhh, great memories
I could listen to these two talk all day about anything
Mike & Sammy need to do more of this type of this stuff together. I enjoy them talking the VH years and the back history of it all. Leave the VH politics out of it & just discuss VH back history and behind the scene type stuff.
You boys are on top of the world.
AWESOME! That was a great concert!
What a great interview!! I saw these cats 1994 or 1995. Balance tour also saw you guys last month when you were at the restaurant. THANK GUYS You've help my get some hard time 🤙☘️. GSTARR 🤙
Amazing
Love that album
The song right now has one of the best EVH’s solo at the end. The 8,000 watt sound system I have in my basement must be on 10 when that part comes on so the entire neighborhood could hear it! I figure it’s good to let the young kids know what Rock & Roll is supposed to sound like! 😎
Love em all especially Right not !! Hope you guys bring the circle to Long Island very soon… I had tickets to your Jones Beach concert that was canceled because of Covid summer of 2020😢 HURRY BACK !
I wish Mike Judge would do a season of Tales From The Tour Bus about VH. He could probably do two… 😊
I love these 2 guys. Because them and ONLY them, I listen every day to VH
Awesome vor ever.
Great job Guys ,, you made it thru the Years and kept your Scalps ,, Well Done ,, you be Awesome ,,, 👍
I live for Michaels hair doo.
Good tunes.
You guys are so cool 👍
You better make sure Satriani's drill has a quality battery and full charge for the tour! OWWWWW!
1/2 of a great band. Can’t replace Eddie
Sammy’s in great shape. Very few signs of traditional aging.
I an fron Brasil may name is Rodrigo big vocalist Sammy
Balance next guys!
Balance was/is a very good album...it would be better known if it had come out even 2 or 3 years earlier...that is, and always has been, my ONE gripe with Hagar-era Van Halen...too long of time gaps between albums...we got 4 great albums from them, but in the time frame, we should have had 5-6 albums...
These two look like my retired uncles on any average day!! 😂😂
thank you sammy. MA you da man. RIP EVH the GOAT
❤ great stuff
If you and Anthony were ever able to team up with Alex and Wolfie a great band name would be Clean Slate, as in starting all over again.
❣️❣️
Hagar really just related Right Now to Stairway to Heaven !..wonder what Jason Bonham would say
SAMMY. &. MICHAEL. ANTHONY. 👉. 🇺🇸. DOS. HEROES. DEL. ROCK. and. ROLL.
Id say Mi hEl Anthony is important in the hea y metal seen he is good!!!
Saw the “f.u.c.k.” Tour in Portland, Maine. Alice In Chains opened. Definitely in my top concerts of all time that I’ve seen.
Please sign my guitar 🎸
The Jordan led Chicago Bulls played this right before tip off every home game.
Mikey rules❤
👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼
Of the four concerts I've attended, F.U.C.K. at the Neil Blaisdell in Honolulu was the best. Can't remember the year though.
Sammy made VH!
DLR actually did that, but Sammy kept it going.
❤❤❤❤❤👋👋👋👋👋🤘
Plotting how to take the ring from Froto..
If you could do for the masses what Eddie and VH did. It would probably take your life too. How could you pull back from full throttle?
❤HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAEL😂❤
❤FOREVER F..K❤RELE1SED THIS DAY IN 1991❤MY DREAM❤😂😂😂😂
I took my younger sister to see this tour during high school in Ft. Wayne IN back in 1992. It was phenomenal.
😅
All pop music... SOrry. I prefer the first Album and SAMMY when he was on his own before VH.... But life goes on. YOu guys get back to Hard ROck.. (please) .
Nothing to be "SOrry" about dude... Unless you're sorry for yourself that you self-block out some amazing music, Or something like that...
@@SecularSpinach I'm sorry to rain on Van Hagars parade is all. I just wanted to throw out there maybe make some hard rock again. No offense to anyone.
@@SecularSpinach also I don't think Satch is the right guitarist. Phil X.... Satch is a God but an an Alien God... Leave him be with Vai... Vai wouldn't make a good Eddie player either. Doesn't mean he is a bad guitarist. But satch isn't hard rock. He is New Age Alien 👽
I do like chicken foot
Stairway to Heaven was never released as a single.
Ahhh.. that's what SH said .. but despite that, it became a Rock ANTHEM off it's own momentum, and he feels 'Right Now' went the same for VH. Did you miss his point maybe?
@@SecularSpinach No, I didn't miss his point. SH said, "I didn't even think it was a single." So he wasn't sure. All I wanted to do was clarify it. But that bothered you. It's amazing something so trivial could bother someone.
Thanks for all the great music through the years guys !! Very healing, calming and just plain kick-ass !!! Cheers.
Ha ha painted himself in the corner with thr relentless writing of man on a mission lmfao... Sammys always been abour continuous improvement.
I remember helping my friend unwrap the Van Halen one record his brother got for Christmas, the year it was released. I knew this was going to be special!
😂😂😂😂
The two SANE members of Van Halen. Notice they both LEFT that band...
Glad Sammy backed up, defended Mike and took him with him when Van Halen was pretty much over from the Van Halen brothers who seem to be trying to screw Mike over all the time. Ed was good at his craft but seemed lousy at being a decent fair human being and Alex and him being brothers I get the sense they alienated the other members of the band quite frequently.
