Hi Claire, congratulation on your beautiful house! I do have one concern, I do believe you have a lot of pink Oleander shrubs/trees which are very poisonous. All parts of Nerium oleander - leaves, flowers, stems, twigs, roots - are toxic, and oleander poisoning can affect the heart, nervous system, stomach and intestines, eyes and skin. Keep children and pets away from the shrubs. Please check with your gardener if they are Oleander shrubs. Greetings from Australia x

I would also recommend you buy plastic glasses if you are going to drink around the pool side, as you will need to empty all the water out of the pool if you get glass in it. Hope this helps. xx

Beautiful property! I love the hidden nooks and crannies. Might be a good idea to go to local land office to get the history of the property - especially with open fields. Not to be morbid, but you can sometimes discover unmarked burial plots. A water feature/waterfall would very cool for the pool
We have all this. When we collected the keys, you have to sit for two/three hours with a notary and go over every single detail of the property. To agreeing formally you will protect the pool (with alarm of gate) to who has right of way in the roads near by, to the lands history. It was very intense. Totally different to the UK where you collect the keys and walk right out.
Hi Claire, I’m from Australia the home of Zimmermann, and every second home here has a pool in the backyard. I’m not sure of your plan you see forming in your mind, but the first thing I’d do is clear all of the trees that drop flowers and leaves into the water. They contaminate the water, fill the filters and are ridiculously high maintenance. if you’re looking for an oasis for you and the children that’s safety conscious Id clear the rose bushes too, the children will run and skip around the pool in barely anything, and rose thorns and bare skin don’t work well together. Another thing id do is completely clear the landscaping between your home and the pool, so you have an excellent visual from a number of rooms in the house. Why? To keep a safe eye on the children playing near or in the water, it will help ease that anxiety you feel as a mother - I get it! And the final snippet of information I’d give you is, we Australians will sleepily wander out to the pool some mornings with our coffees. We have an extensive range of beautiful weatherproof poolside furniture for all occasions. Comfy cushioned sofas with outdoor friendly coffee and occasional tables. Matching outdoor dining suit too. We Australians have so much beautiful warm weather we entertain so much outdoors, and as a result have refined what luxurious comfort and dining experiences are expected from an outdoor living space. Also in parting and if you like the idea, look up an Australian fire pit designs. Talk about s’mores to the next level. Claire your space stunning, I absolutely love it! Xx

It’s so beautiful. I live in Australia where most people grow up with a swimming pool and you are right to be worried about it. So many toddlers used to drown in home swimming pools every summer that it’s now been illegal for several decades to own one without a security fence around it. So I would advise getting that down ASAP and then you can relax and just enjoy it.

@@claire.chanelle That sets my mind at rest. Something else we used to do was every year when we first got into the pool we would put our dog in the water with us and guide him to the ladder so that he remembered where it was and how to get out on his own just in case he ever fell in.

I would recommend you move the rose bushes as will be nightmare to keep it cleaned. I would recommend you have the pool covered in winter so the leafs don't fall in. Enjoy xxx

@@user-od8qw7ti8k Och we have adders here in Scotland and most snakes like ditches and ponds of which I don’t see on their property, ok the laundry room is a good place for them but all you need is a good door. Fortunately it’s very rare to be bitten and even then they are not fatal, poisonous maybe but not enough most times to need an anti venom for them. They also have a gardener who is probably quite skilled in the nature around him but yes maybe a pair of flip flops would be better than barefoot 😂. Take care❤️

What a stunning property. That mirror in your bedroom I believe is antique and expensive. I follow some chateau owners who are quite knowledgeable in antique’s and I remember them talking about mirrors with painting above them.

My husband and I bought our second home in Puerto Banus when my first born was 5 months old (he’s 20, nearly 21 now!!!) and all three of my kids have grown up with their summers in their holiday home - it’s the most amazing thing to have all these memories you’re going make ahead of you with your beautiful family ♥️

We live outside of Stockholm with my English husband and when his parents came to visit they were chocked about how much land we have we just love it. Regarding ideas for the pool area. I have one! Lol You spoke of your vision a few times. It was very sweet. You mention children every time. I think children would appreciate color in the pool area. I think rich, jewel tones would be gorgeous. I've noticed you choose neutral tones and white a lot. It's nice, nothing wrong with it. As I said, relaying your vision with children made me think of color, and not the typical neon summer brights.
I’m so happy for you!! I’ve always wanted a pool with no contrete around and grass around it but I know it’s not for everyone, but that’s what I love and I would do!! I love the laid back lifestyle in the South of France! I’m from the state’s and I couldn’t ever live without air conditioning so that’s the first thing I would put in!!!

I love renovating etc ! Please don’t rush into doing anything ! You were talking about adding a balcony to your bedroom , which I imagine won’t be cheap !
I think you should talk to an architect and make a plan for the future , particularly if it’s a forever second home ! It saves money in the long run .You have so much land …
I think a master bedroom downstairs with en-suite opening onto your fab garden would be ideal. I rebuilt a property in Spain and we included a downstairs suite … initially thinking about my parents in old age , but I’ve used it twice and am currently living in it as I’ve broken my foot ! Fell off not very high platform mules 🤷♀️ It’s a lifesaver I can get about downstairs and sunbathe etc . Worth thinking about x

You’re right about the balcony, it has to be part of the bigger plan and all flow together. The downstairs bedroom is such a great idea. I haven’t shared the inside but we actually have a big room on the downstairs with it’s own bathroom. Everyone is telling us to open it up to the downstairs lounge space but I think it’s lovely having a bedroom and bathroom downstairs. My mum stays there and will be perfect as she gets older.
Yes , think about it ! It’s so much better to have a plan and do it bit by bit as you can , then you end up with your perfect dream house! I’ve wasted so much money over the years !! 🙄

Claire and family, so happy for you,dream home,having a lot of trees is wonderful. You will be creating the best memories. Acreage is very important, peaceful, private.I just started to cry when I saw all three of you in the pool,you look so happy and in love.The happiness just glows.We have an 1840 house,double brick chimneys,bank style,all wood floors,6 fireplaces, we are in the country,woods,creek,barn built same year,corral and our Paso Fino horse Julie and our dogs,just a relaxing farm house,we usually have 2 people working summer to weed eat,tree control,always something to work on,mowing. It's a work of love.Our son is grown now,people say isn't it alot to take care of,I say no,it doesn't feel that way when you find the home you always wanted.I see you are in love with your home,family,good bussiness. I'm so happy to see families get the homes they love.Good luck it is absolutely beautiful, much happiness to you all💞💞💞

That’s totally understandable I totally get that. It’s just different for each person. I love the feeling of feeling at home an familiar places. We also travel a lot for work and get to see some incredible places. We fully intent of travelling as much as before. We will still do one big holiday a year somewhere long haul and plenty of closer destinations. I also saw it as a way to invest money and renovate a place. I love doing that.

Funny story I live in Australia and my old landline phone ADSL was replaced with optic fibre connection buried under the ground. When this was done I asked that the old overhead line to my house be removed as it was redundant. Two guys came took down the old overhead line but replaced it with a new one. Now I’ve been told I will need to pay to have it removed.

Beautiful home, do you guys not have air conditioning in your home?
NO. It was unbearable!! We booked someone to come last week, it was first thing in the list. In the mean time we had to buy portable machines for main areas and rooms. So pricey to buy so many, can’t wait for the main fitted air con.
