Not neccessarily. If the handlebars are too narrow, your shoulders will hinder your chest from expanding fully when breathing in. Believe me, I tried it: In the late 1980s I got a purple Everton frame with the white Shimano Santé 2 x 7-speed group set, one of the most beautiful bicycles in the 1980s. The default handlebars were quite narrow (36 cm I think) which impaired my breating hugely. Only when I changed to wider handlebars did I get back to normal performance. Until than I was faster on my old somewhat heavier 2 x 6-speed bike. I later rebuilt the Santé to a single-speed and used in the beginning of my carreer as a bike messenger. However, the frame broke under me one day at work, the soldering on the downtube cracked at the head stem. Quite a wobbely experience. Walked to the nearest shop, got a new frame + fork, took a taxi home, and spent the evening moving the parts to be ready to ride the next morning.
Is no one asking the question about the limitations is saddle height adjustment with that seat post being so shallow? Also, 8kg that’s absurd for a Tour bike since this is usually the top of the range with all the goodies.
As an engineer I think the old design with the iso speed decoupler was overall a more well-rounded concept. Of course the iso speed system is relatively heavy, but at least it works well and it actually makes a real difference in comfort and ride quality. So whereas the old Madone was a very clear and focused approach to combine speed with comfort, the new one looks like a halfway house without real strength. But thank god the new one is lighter, good thing that being lightweight isn’t horrendously overrated…
Also an engineer, looking at the way the iso speed dropped to the bottom bracket, while this more or less splits the seat post from the bike, I could see this entire frame being extremely stiff for pedaling while still allowing the seat post to move quite a bit. If I'm not mistaken, iso speed had to allow the bottom bracket to move vertically slightly.
