      The new Trek Madone that's heavier than a Mondraker Podium MTB with 100mm of travel, fat tyres and a cassette the size of a dinner plate as it weights 7.8kg
      But remember all this is what progression apperantly looks like 😂😂😂😂

    I like the top-bar's flatness - the balls crusher. Instead of only crushing one ball on a round top tube, now the flatter profile allows both to be crushed under a rider's pedal-slip. Very smart of Trek. It looks far more stff, too, so total crushing is now possible.

    • @Kieran0
      @Kieran0 2 года назад +3

      @RichyH1000 - That's not correct, the entire point of the hole is to aid in rider aero.
      The rider creates a 'blockage' in the air, this creates turbulence directly behind the rider which creates a low pressure area effectively pulling the rider backwards.
      Allowing 'clean' air up through the bike directly behind the rider is intended to offset this, essentially lowering the drag.

    I love the marketing which says lightest Madone ever. Really? Let’s get Lance in the phone and ask him how heavy his one was! Let’s also ask the engineers how the seat post is more aero when there is a riders legs moving around to disrupt the airflow through that ridiculous hole. Lol.

    A new idea for a video? I went on a gravel ride yesterday. It was much hillier than my previous gravel rides, which were relatively flat with an excellent crushed limestone surface. How about a video on how to ride more technical gravel roads? (But not MTB technical trails.)

    The funniest part is that 1/2 of the aero benefit they claim comes from the narrower handlebars which is a joke... So my comments are: By switching my bars from 40cm to 38cm I get $5000 worth of aero improvement and 2) This model benefits of a 15% improvement of BS factor over the previous generation....

      Not neccessarily. If the handlebars are too narrow, your shoulders will hinder your chest from expanding fully when breathing in. Believe me, I tried it:
      In the late 1980s I got a purple Everton frame with the white Shimano Santé 2 x 7-speed group set, one of the most beautiful bicycles in the 1980s. The default handlebars were quite narrow (36 cm I think) which impaired my breating hugely.
      Only when I changed to wider handlebars did I get back to normal performance. Until than I was faster on my old somewhat heavier 2 x 6-speed bike.
      I later rebuilt the Santé to a single-speed and used in the beginning of my carreer as a bike messenger. However, the frame broke under me one day at work, the soldering on the downtube cracked at the head stem. Quite a wobbely experience. Walked to the nearest shop, got a new frame + fork, took a taxi home, and spent the evening moving the parts to be ready to ride the next morning.

    This what marketing and research are all about, give the market something maybe useless but weird enough to be desiderable. Well done trek.

    Are you sure the tape is reverse wrapped? Looks to me like they just finished the bar tape with more bar tape instead of electrical tape.

    Do all my bikes tape backwards - it gives better grip too as edges face palm as you move palm outwards !

    Is no one asking the question about the limitations is saddle height adjustment with that seat post being so shallow? Also, 8kg that’s absurd for a Tour bike since this is usually the top of the range with all the goodies.

    As an engineer I think the old design with the iso speed decoupler was overall a more well-rounded concept. Of course the iso speed system is relatively heavy, but at least it works well and it actually makes a real difference in comfort and ride quality. So whereas the old Madone was a very clear and focused approach to combine speed with comfort, the new one looks like a halfway house without real strength. But thank god the new one is lighter, good thing that being lightweight isn’t horrendously overrated…

    • @SteevyTable
      @SteevyTable 2 года назад

      Also an engineer, looking at the way the iso speed dropped to the bottom bracket, while this more or less splits the seat post from the bike, I could see this entire frame being extremely stiff for pedaling while still allowing the seat post to move quite a bit. If I'm not mistaken, iso speed had to allow the bottom bracket to move vertically slightly.
