      @the walking undead I guess it comes down to personal preference. Of course I enjoyed both but I feel like Oldboy was more "polished" whereas Mr. Vengeance was more raw and there's something about that rawness that makes it stand out more than the other two. I do think that Oldboy has the best soundtrack though.

    The fact that even through the credits you still can hear the father whimpering adds to the brutality of it all, as well as makes the point the pain doesn't just end there. The storm of revenge will only settle when everyone & everything in its way has been destroyed

      In the end the title makes sense. "Sympathy for Mr. Revenge is for Ryu, he was an outcast boy who, absolutely everything went wrong. If you realize, he just wanted to help his sister who ended up committing suicide and third parties who had nothing to do with it ended up getting involved. The thought is hard, showing you a tender, deaf and sweet kid who ends up getting chopped up... It's fucked up.

      @@Horrido_ For me the title was ironic because I didn't find any of the characters particularly sympathetic. Ryu did have a really bad hand in life but most of the problems in the movie were caused by his own stupid decisions and reckless impulsivity. In the end he became just as vicious and depraved as the people who wronged him. I suppose that was the overall point of the film but I still didn't feel sorry for him or his girlfriend when Dong-Jin killed them.

      @@crashverde1686 I don't appreciate movies luxuriating in violence and brutality for the sake of it while simultaneously trying to impart some kind of moral lesson, especially when they pull a half-assed twist like this at the last second. The movie would have much more powerful and realistic if he just got away with it and had to live with the weight of his actions for the rest of his days. Him getting killed by some random revolutionary group just to hammer home the whole "violence begets violence" theme is a cop-out and seriously undermines the power of the scenes that came before. Thankfully the director refined his approach and Oldboy explored these themes in a much more interesting way.

    That voice over pissed me off. Why repeat something we heard only 20 minutes ago? To tell us that's the terrorist org? Who else could it be? You understand that the second you see one of them looking at the picture and then looking back at him.

    • @SidPhoenix2211
      @SidPhoenix2211 2 года назад +1

      Yeah, I was definitely annoyed by the voice over. Idk who decided to add that there (the director? could be the studio too? Who knows). Unnecessary voice overs annoy tf out of me. Feels as if the creators think that the audience is dumb. When sloppily used in an emotional scene, it feels as if the creators are like: FEEL THIS EMOTION!!! and it just feels ham-fisted.
      I did see those guys with the picture but I didn't make the connection. When the one guy placed the note and then stabbed Dong-jin, and I was able to read "The Ruling..." (I watched the subbed version, but you get me)... I IMMEDIATELY connected it with the note that Yeong-Mi was typing in the beginning of the movie. Then I remembered her "I gave them your picture line". I, using my memory and the bits of knowledge the film provided me with, solved this little puzzle. I answered my own questions.
      So when that voice over started playing, I was VERY annoyed.
      Folks really need to trust the audience to remember and pay attention.
