  • The Wild One at Six Flags America is a wooden roller coaster designed by John A. Miller and Herbert Schmeck. The Philadelphia Toboggan Company manufactured The Wild One, which stands 98 feet tall with an 88-foot drop, is 4,000 feet long, and has a top speed of 60 mph. Originally opened as The Giant Coaster at Paragon Park in Nantasket Beach, Massachusetts, in 1917, it was redesigned after a 1932 fire by Herbert Schmeck with an underfriction track system. Another fire in 1963 led to modifications by John C. Allen. 1984, the coaster was sold to Wild World (now Six Flags America) and reconstructed by Charlie Dinn, reopening in 1986 as The Wild One. Despite early popularity, maintenance issues led to its rough reputation and closure in 1991. The park's new owners, Tierco Group, Inc., refurbished the ride in 1992, with subsequent tracking by Martin & Vleminckx. In 2018, The Wild One was honored with the American Coaster Enthusiasts' Coaster Landmark award.
