Caroline's first serve is so powerful 🔥
I think rather than bullying Osaka's return to the tour, one should celebrate Carcia's game: When she is on, she plays the most beautiful tennis, and she belongs in top 10 if not top 5 imo. I hope she can regain her 2022 form for an increasingly competitive tour. Osaka isn't at her (former) peak yet, but she did hit a couple of those forehands across court that were hit cleaner and harder than you'll ever see in wta.
Hopefully Osaka plays some smaller tournaments now before another major. Putting some wins together and building some momentum would help shake the rust after spending a long period away from the tour.
I will always be an Osaka fan since watching her care and attention toward Gauff after trouncing her at the 2019 us open - though I think she should consider taking a few more months off.

As an old Seles fan i remember all the negative comments for her weight and speed.

I think it's not a bad thing to observe and discuss the physical shape of professional athlete as it's a major part of any sports. Ofc not in form of bullying or shaming. But she became slower and less mobile before her break and the question is how it's gonna be fixed if ever after her comeback.

Monica was stabbed on the court and people acted like nothing happened. Of course she had trauma. Food was her way out.
Anyway,people are very cruel. Osaka had emotional issues and then a pregnancy to deal with too.
She played okay for someone away for so long plus Garcia was amazing today.

the fact that it was an even match is a complement to Osaka, considering a long break. Would have been better to get a bit slower in the tournament ig playing with a weaker opponent in the 1st round. Nice addition to the tour year ahead !

You can see how much Naomi lost her serve power, it's such a shame. On top of that, she seems to be quite slow at the moment. If she can find her athletism and power that she had, then she will be back. Not until this happens.
She is done until she does what she didn't so in many years - plays a lot of smaller tournaments. In her best form since winning last slam she was bagelled by Iga who became no.1 two days after that. Her problem for many years was her diva approach and skipping all important warm-up tournaments, you can't get match practice and feeling without playing.Świątek won 67 matches in 2022, 68 matches in 2023 which is 87.5% of her all matches played in 2022-23 and she's alive and getting better and better. It won't hurt Naomi to put a little bit of effort and play like a WTA player, not like a part-time player. She's not Serena to play 6 tournaments per year and win 2-3 slams each season.
Did you even Watch the match? She was serving the same speed as García and hit like 10 aces? Only her third match after giving birth, impressive to say the least.
@@25as06 I'm not denying that she was great especially after coming back from maternity. But denying the fact that her serve isn't what it used to be is being blind. The same goes for athletics. But I'm sure she will find a better shape in no time.

Caroline played a good match ... but it seems Naomi makes it to easy for her opponents. She is to slow - on feet and in the head. That's somehow interesting because it once was her big advantage that she could anticipate the strokes of her opponent. Somehow she has lost this ability. She was more reacting than acting and so Caroline just outplaced her. The placement of the shoots is not there - to much secure shoots won't scare better players. If she wants to win bigger tournaments she needs to train more. But I have to say she improved. So far not enough for a grand slam. Not yet ...

I've never seen a more annoying player to watch than Osaka.
Giving birth to a child is a toll is itself being a top tennis player. Biochemistry, body everything is changing. Wozniaki, Serena, Azarenka nobody’s an exception. What a pity. I thought Naomi would be the second Serena. Not the case. Happy mom though ))

I wonder is it over for Naomi? Regardless of the physicality I just don't think she has the mentality, a bit like most women on the WTA. Explains why there hasn't been a dominant champion since Serena. Women's tennis is just so flaky, bit like Naomi herself.

Garcia is in top 30 since a LONG time and has been several times in the top 10, one of the best serve of the tour + really dangerous on hard court.
