- How to make cuts in VCT (Vinyl Composition Tile) without a tile cutter. It takes a little longer but if you don't do large amounts of VCT you probably haven't invested in a VCT tile cutter. Have any videos on flooring you want us to do? Just ask!
BRILLIANT - THANKS! I only need to install about 10 tiles and didnt want to buy a tile cutter, Thanks!
I used this method for cutting the vinyl tile in my bathroom this weekend. This saved me so much time. Thank you for making this video. This method is brilliant!
Been installing floors for over 15 years, been using this method, its fast, no need to lug around extra tools, and gives me a perfect cut every time....probably faster using this method than using a cutter as been doing it so long.
I am laying this type of tile in my bathroom and its my first time ...thank you for this video my floor is fantastic because of this video
Thanks for making this! Getting ready to do a large VCT tile install here in awhile and your tips are going to save me a lot of headache!
I Never would have thought of that!!!!! Thanks.
Definately. I was measuring all the pieces. I just finished a floor today, this saved me a ton of time. Feel kinda silly for not figuring it out myself :P
Thanks for the tip! Just used it on a couple tiles that needed to be replaced.
This method is FASTER than a tile cutter, I sold my tile cutter after learning to do this on my own. Also for more accurate cuts use a olfa knife with black blades. You will never cut yourself as you do not have to apply too much pressure. I can cut faster doing this than anyone with a tile cutter.
Enjoyed the video.
The flooring looks nice.
Don’t suggest making cuts on top of the new tile.
I know, everyone has to be a critic.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I appreciate your help!
Thanks guy!! Just what I needed to see!!
Very helpful video....planning to do a my entry way, hall way & bathroom floor!
Just goes to show us old guys are set in are ways. I usually get all the floors, tile, carpet ceramic and wood and I always loved the edge of the carpet blade as my knife of choice best to you! PS Round Blades
You have help me complete jobs quickly watching you
i have been instaliing HARD SURFACE for 40 years, no flooring expert uses a thin breakable carpet blade to cut vct, thats real!!
Great informative vid, as for some suggesting a blow torch. Thats just more time and resources.
This works fine, just make sure your VCT isn't cold or it will not break on the line you scribe most of the time.
Have a tile cutter and it cuts like crap, going to give this a shot, thanks
Wow...my husband is going to be surprised that I laid the tile this afternoon. It was so easy to do thanks for the tips. Did you make one for ceramic tile on the wall? And I like the floor tile I'm using, I want to put it underneath a mirror on the wall. Is this possible??
What color is that tile, I like it
this is terrific.can you do a video on flashcoving marmoleum in 1 piece.
Thanks I’ll need this info when doing my vintages camper
Thanks so much how about different shape edges
Great little video. Thanks!
I would have to argue with the guys suggesting using a utility knife. A carpet knife such as he is using is fine. The angle of the cutting blade when scoring the tile glides better along the straight edge of the other tile. Not only that, the blade last's longer.
One way to speed things up though. When doing a long straight wall, such as this. It's much faster to line up all the tiles along that row, then just go down the wall with your cutting tile. (your knife blade wont touch the floor)
Thank you so much you just saved my life today LOL
Thank you for putting up the video.!!
can you tellme how much the square feet to install this kind of tiles including the cove base?
awsome tecnique dude, gonna install some today :0)
U can, if your pro. The idea is to not let the blade reach all the way to the end, simple stuff for us who work with knives
That works but not how it is supposed to be done . How do you cut a circle out
Thanks for posting! Good stuff!
Great tips. Have fun with your floor....ha ha!
does that stuff have to be glued down?
you are a genius!
very helpful thanks a lot
You saved me! Thank you!
Thank you.
I need to cut to switch tiles mid floor. We have an open space and I want to split the rooms by color like paint and flooring. Making it feel like two separate spaces. this is a cement basement floor with just the thin tile down. so im not sure I can add a separator. the last line of tiles in the room ive mostly already don needs to be trimmed to align with a wall that corners out and is my line for splitting the two rooms. But I have been stalling on this line because I am afraid of the trimmed tile making a rough line at the transition point. would have been best to start at that point and work out but much of the time was layed before this decision. is there a way to make it look good still?
Huh?
Man I've been doing it all wrong... lol. Thanks :)
I love ur beautiful genius
Muy buen video. . Why dont you use a tile cutter to make easier cuts
you’re good
Thank you
You the best
Stone smooth - thanks
I tried this method and somehow the tile is stuck on the ceiling
ibecurly Could it be a flooring expert showing you how simple it is to install VCT? Get real hard surface!
Get a tile cutter. Use the same measurement til the door jams boom! Save a lot of time
you got molding going up, turn it upside down and stay close to the field line...
Bada Boom! Bada Bing!
corey.did you even get through grade 4
yea a utility knife leaves such a different cut!
@chiludo20 why not ?
yes vct tile has to be glued
indeed.
Niceee
looks like another carpet banger trying to install hard surface
woah first off never use carpet knives/blades... they can skate around and slip and theyre actually quite dangerous to use on vinyl flooring.. 2:08 - 2:10 are the reason why you cant use a carpet blade.. he didnt stay along the edge of the tile. not all door jams are going to float off the floor so you cant ever make precise cuts with a carpet blade.. always use a utility knife
+carlos espinal if your floor jams are not floating you need to trim them. dosent matter what flooring you put down. I have used a carpet knife with all the places we have put this down. no problem. You dont need to cut hard or deep. just a good scratch will allow it to break away. using a metal ruler helps to have something to cut along.
Thanks but I need to see a complicated cut
Olfa knife
yea i hear yea there pirate, just don,t want to see some one with no expirience see this video and end up with 50 or so stitches in there hand when the blade brakes from forcing it and the knife gets out of control. as us old guys say--- keep laying!!!\
This guy brushes his teeth with a carpet knife.
Thanks man.now I can make my cuts tomm.and not have to Fucking measure everyone.good video.thanks
Bro I have watched your carpet installation videos and I will say that you are not a VCT mechanic. YOU DON'T USE A FORK FOR SOUP. so you don't use a double edge blade for VCT.
an get a utility nife
Carpet knife on VCT? Scab move
an on the door frame u shouldve just stuck too ur tight cutting meathod over work you deff do things ass backwards
Why are all the youtube videos filled with hacks with carpet knives????? LOL
Get back to kicking in carpet
It is stupid to use CARPET knife on VINYL.
