All I can say is a cool head , skills and the capacity for quick decisions and quick reflexes are needed...which simply means...pilots are superhuman...nothing less.
ronik24 I was speaking in general & not specifically to the post, I fly over 600k miles a year commercially & have great trust in the pilots, especially those operating in the US.
I never bad mouth a pilot when leaving a plane. I was thank them for a safe flight if I see them standing there. Sometimes they are underappreciated especially when there a flight delays. I guarantee you there isn't a single commercial pilots that enjoy delays. They want to get to the destination just as badly as the passengers do.
I was on a plane landing into SFO had a go around it's a weird sensation you are getting for the the wheels to touchdown then you go full throttle and start a turn. Then have to run to make your next connection
Got that once we were landing , almost there 3 minutes to go then all of sudden the plane went up again , ( another aircraft was on the runway ) ... pilote did not say anything until he reached the right altitude ..( ..just concentrated to manage that unforeseen event properly ) ...
In my experience, S turns just never work. They don't add enough delay to be of any use. I have to do that many, many times and always had to go around in the end.
Who's flying the 727 thats behind the Polar 747 at 9:01? I didn't think anyone was flying the Boeing 727 anymore.......maybe an obscure cargo carrier? Awesome clip btw!
Love this video. It's difficult to make out but you can clearly hear the Captain's frustration (FO is doing the flying) all the way through the sequence. At very beginning of the approach sequence, he instructs the FO to start the S-turns to distance themselves with the douchebags in front of them. As they approach the threshold of the runway, the Capt clearly sees what's about to happen and again is frustrated. Barely audible - "Sh*t!". You can hear the frustration in his radio calls to the controller. Hahahahaha. This is a great crew who were obviously pissed off with the POS crew in front of them. Great stuff!!!
*EXCELLENT VIDEO!* - They executed that go-around as if it was child’s play! So matter of factly! I don’t understand why he asked what type of plane landed ahead and what the ATC meant by snarking about its speed being mini. Please explain using non pilot talk! Thank you!!
Mini speed meant it didn't get off the runway fast enough causing the 747 to have to go around. Believe it or not it costs probably a couple grand in fuel to have to do that.
It’s absurd of how passengers are sitting in the back calling pilots idiots for making the plane rock just a bit when in fact they have no idea on what goes on in the cockpit, and in the control tower.
nightstalker Which is why there are profiles to follow. Even under stress a pilot can fall back to his training. A go should be low stress. You can “what if” a million scenarios to create a go around that could be stressful, but in reality 99.5 percent should be low stress, thanks to profiles.
Could someone please answer for a non-pilot: At 1:56 we hear the call-out "Plus 100", which I understand to mean 100 ft. above the minimum altitude for a go-around. Then, at 2:06 we hear "Minimum". The pilot flying (on the left) immediately responds (reaches to the right), and we hear a click, which I assume is the TOGA switch being thrown. Then the pilot announces that he's going around. (Why does he say "75 goin' around? Was this a mistake?) My question is: Was this decision based solely on his visual of the previous traffic _not_ having cleared the runway? I didn't hear any instruction from ATC to GIANT 55 to execute a TOGA. Is this decision entirely up to the pilot flying? Would there have been some instruction that was never made indicating that the runway was clear? This seems a bit dicey. Thanks!
But yes, basically what happened is the controller started getting nervous because the aircraft was not vacating the runway fast enough. The pilot himself could have made the executive decision to go around, but he was waiting to see if the controller could fix the problem. It probably was close to the pilot making the decision on his own, but the controller made it for him before it got to that point.
The pilot initiated the go-around because he knew the runway hadn’t been vacated. They don’t have to be instructed to go around, they can make that call themselves. In my opinion this American system of clearing all aircraft to land is unsafe precisely for this reason - in the UK we’ll only clear you to land if the runway is clear and will be clear until you touch down.
The cost is 1. Fuel. 2. Stress. 3. More Gray Hairs. Possibility of passengers with connecting flights to miss their flights. Amd the list goes on and on and on!

It's not necessarily the flight crew. The controllers didn't space the aircraft enough. Often times the controllers will tell us to expedite, but it is not safe to do so. The runway is ours until the PIC determines it is safe to exit.
@@witoldtomczyk3572 At around 1:25 forward you can see them going from the lower part of the runway towards the middle. Right in the runway's center lights.
Interesting successful go around.generally in crash videos they show that due to night time pilots lost situational awareness etc. & could not conduct a go around.
Lawrence Forman • It’s my understanding it’s Miami, Runway 9. It’s also my understanding that this pilot did a little sort of dogleg or S-turn maneuver to give the other aircraft more time to vacate. (Just for a little fyi, there’s a 24/7 webcam at a restaurant across from the airport and the camera pans slowly parallel with Runway 9. Go to PTZ.tv)
Time well spent in the simulator! Pleasure to watch a team of professionals in action.
Great 747 go around video 👍 the banter with ATC "the mini 319, had mini speed" 😂
Great to see the longer version of my favourite GO AROUND. thanks

One of the best go around videos so far.
Love the sound of the engines spooling up
Amazing what goes on in the cockpit & how little we know as passengers, thank goodness for the professional pilots.
Totally safe. We practice go arounds. it’s like a takeoff from the air.
I doubt Polar Air Cargo transports many passengers ;-)

Hey guys beginning at about 0:38 for around 30 seconds or so, you can see an aircraft taking off. Look just below the middle of your screen.

Kassius KLAY - we had that happen one time going in to Kansas City. Pilot never said a word. I still wonder.
Some pilots see passengers as cargo, not customers
Flight deck is very busy during a go around. It's aviate, navigate, communicate in that order.
In my experience, S turns just never work. They don't add enough delay to be of any use. I have to do that many, many times and always had to go around in the end.

Rumour has it the aircraft on the runway is still expediting the next left turn.
I have a personal jet, we have had to do a few go arounds. But I do love to fly at night it’s awesome!
"But t'was all in good fun!"
I hear the go-around is Giant 55, Atlas 747. My son flies with them
Perfect 👌
very cool...
The AAA3191 disconnected AP,when the ATC taunted them.He purposely did it while giving the call.
I like it better when a plane goes around than when pilots decide to push and force a landing which leads to disasters.

Yes as it's expensive. They should send a bill to the Airbus A319.

Why they goes around? Grazie
Trafic on the runway,departing plane?
The Airbus A319 that landed ahead of them was still rolling out on the runway and failed to turn off in time.
The plane that had landed before them haven't vacated the runway
Bad spacing.
