Thank you so much for these videos. They are hugely informative and really well made. I'm working on my first hand and rod puppet as a gift for my mother's 50th. It's coming along great and I wouldn't be able to do it without you.
When I was little, I used to wonder why the glove hands of puppets were always shown below the tv screen! But now I'm glad I know why! I'll be sure to keep this tip in mind when I'm ready to bring one of my characters to life!
I started with wired hands from your other video. Now I want to make educational videos for my students and Marty, my puppet, can't interact with anything. I'm totally making some live hands. I love these videos.
ok so im nearly done with this whole playlist and its midnight BUT IM HAPPY I STUCK AROUND! so if i wanted to perform my own puppet which i plan to make too yay!! if i operated with ONE arm and the head will that still look normal? as in normal one man one puppet function? ur opinion would help! thanks!!
For sure! I do that all the time. I am doing that in a show this weekend. I’ll post a clip on Instagram this weekend after the show. Keep an eye out for it. @adamkreutinger
I am loving these custom template tutorials. Do you have any plans for cable controlled puppet tutorials? Need to start working on some of those in the next few months for Shrek and wanted to see how others are using break lines and such.
Eric Salvi okay so there is a tutorial not on Adams channel on using a bike cable for the mouth and I’ll leave a link but he did kind of explain how to make a cable blinking mechanism
Great, Adam! Well, I'm a teacher but I'll try to make my own puppet, 'cause I believe it can be a useful teaching resource, who knows... Thanks for posting!
Heya Adam ! I've been watching your videos for a few days now and they've inspired me so much to make my own puppets! I have some characters I've wanted to materialise for so long, but didn't know how. Now I know I definitely want to make puppets of them! I'm starting with a quite ambitious one for my first proper puppet...haha :' ) I aim to make my own pattern and such, as this will be a fox-like character! I'm gonna try my hand at making blinking eyes, removable live and rod arms (so I can switch between them) and later in the year I may try making legs and such for it too : ) Thankfully there are no clothes on this one !! I went out and bought all the materials for it yesterday (except the foam, which had to be ordered online as the local foam supplier was closed) so once the foam arrives (hopefully tomorrow) I can get started! Thank you for inspiring me; I'm an artist and I have had such bad art block, but this is the first thing that has gotten me excited to do art again in so many months!
These are great how to videos. I sat with my kid for like an hour watching holding my cup halfway to my lips. I wish there were more great how to vids in other categories like these. Thanks for producing these.
Ya know I always wanted to see what I look like as a puppet sense I use to grow up watching the muppets and sesame streets But sadly seeing it now it looks hard between making a puppet head and body and live arms But maybe I would do something about that for my videos I mean my mother always watches the muppet show sense she was a kid and I believe her in lots of ways But I guess maybe making a puppet seems kinda hard and a lot of work But maybe it can be worth it perhaps
Hi Adam my plan is too use your free patterns and make the character with black hair and skin tone fleece. I will also make the arms switch from rod to live hand. I am a huge fan and it’s been almost 3 years now!! I just want to ask what does the big Mack pattern come with because I might make him in the future! Sorry if I’m asking to many questions lol. I love your channel too much! Anyways if I ever do have my own Etsy shop which I hope to do. Would it be okay if I maybe sold like mouth plates or finished characters with replica in the name from your shop kind of like puppet pelts does? I will leave credit don’t worry lol. LOVE ❤️ your vids:)

@@victoriathegreencheekconur5477 well he made a rod puppet and a live hand puppet so why are you complaining, ok, so what if they are gloves, it's what some fans want to know how to do! And also the sml puppets aren't that high quality.

I would rather make the glove the forearm than just the hand. That way you can reach higher and do thing like face palm or scratching the head. I don't make puppets but I hope to start sometime this December or next year.

I can record a video and send to you with you wish... please, let me know how send you the vídeo link. See Y'all !!!
I thought machine sewing puppets was a definite no-no; I know many puppet builders swear by it, but Rick Lyon in particular balks at machine sewing. I found a live hand pattern last year that had one significant difference: the pattern had a separate thumb away from the edge of the glove pattern, which I notice some builders do for both live and rod hands.
+Joseph Scarbrough: There are many different ways to make puppets. This is one way. Also. Everyone, even Rick Lyon, uses a sewing machine. Not for every part. But for hands yes. You always want to hand sew the face. In pictures you can clearly see that the Avenue Q hands are sewn in a machine. They even show sewing a puppet on machine in Ricks show on the puppet making video on Tested.
I machine sew what ever will be the easiest still knowing that the fleece will cover the seams. Adam is right with fur though you need to hand sew or cut back the fur in the seam allowance when I machine sew fur.
I guess he must have changed his attitude at some point in the past, because Rick used to be *adament* about how much he hated machine-sewn puppets, and that hand-sewn was always the way to go.
My son and I have been watching this Puppet Building 101 series. Your tips and tricks seem fantastic, we can't wait to start making our first puppet. We will def share photos on your IG when we are done....unless its a flop lol :-)

Hey Adam, have you ever seen the RUclips series "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared'?
How long should I make the arms if I’m making regular puppet hands?
As long as you want.
I would like to try this type of puppet if I'm allowed to do just one hand to control the puppet hand & the other to make the puppet talk.
Cool
Hey Adam do u like prefer regulaur rod arm puppets or live hand puppets?
I prefer to perform with arm rods.
I’m gonna make a puppet like that
