the scene where she has to explain to her friends that she’s not good with people but she’s good with tech so she thought she could use tech to help people is just amazing rep in my opinion

This is so overlooked, but given how intensely ableist most of the fandom and even some of the crew is, I am not surprised at all that it is. Thank you for making this. Tried to make video essays about this myself, as a queer autistic woman, just like Entrapta, but I am probably just to old and not trendy enough for them to really make rounds.
While there are some things where the ableism of some of the crew really shows (how the princesses and especially Perfuma treating her as is seen as mostly funny instead of abuse), for the most parts she is the most accurate and deep portrayal of an autistic person I ever saw in mainstream science fiction. What I personally related to the most were probably her deep sense of being wrong and the resulting s*icidal ideation from that, but also her beautiful romance with Hordak. I literally never saw a romance like mine, with another disabled person, on screen. Also love that she is queer too, even if its subtle and not the kind of queer the many, many biphobes in the fandom would like to see.

even most of the characters are ableist-
like they get mad at entrapta for info dumping or using her comfort item, LIKE THEY LITERALLY REFUSED TO COMMUNICATE WITH HER AND JUST SHOVED HER AROUND AND PUT HER ON A LEASH INSTEAD-

This is awesome, thank you. I've been watching Shera with my daughter and I just LOVE Entrapta, and I could tell she was a well written ASD character. I came to YT looking for an analysis, and they're pretty much non existent except for this one. Keep up the great work!

Thanks! It was a project for a writing class and I don't plan to do any more videos like this, but I'm so glad people are finding this video and enjoying it. I had a lot of fun doing it!

The main thing i disliked about how the show handled entrapa, even before i realized she was autistic, is that a lot of the time she is only there to serve a purpose and is rarely present because her emotional connection to another character demands it. Scorpia, hordak, and wrong hordak are the only ones to pursue her company rather than use her to pursue a goal. I did like catras apology to entrapa and relate to entrapta citing the data when adora challenges her friendship with catra

She should have had more meaningful engagement with adora or glimmer
Even before she defected, you're right, she wasn't ever doing anything not relevant to the plot

honestly the princesses were toxic to her, like REALLY toxic.

Maybe I'm coming at this from a personal level, but I never saw Entrapta as being openly sexual but merely being so focused on technology she attempted to flirt with the Horde drone because it had scanned her. Given her limited social interactions and the relationship she built/developed with Hordak I saw as being more asexual (almost demisexual) since she stated that "imperfections make science possible" and even referred to the robot "Emily" as having quirks that she described as giving her personality. While she isn't a "perfect" example of an autistic character I'd say that she, Scorpia, and Hordak would each represent different aspects of autism since Scorpia was; socially awkward and didn't understand personal space (at least Catra's), tried to be positive, admitted to the other princesses that no one else liked her and she didn't understand friendship, and she was also very positive and only "gave up" on Catra after realizing Catra didn't care for her. Hordak referred to being rejected by Horde Prime because "there was a defect in my cloning" and that he was sent to die, he was socially awkward (likely stemming from only being around clones like himself), he didn't think highly of anyone outside of those who were intelligent like him (Entrapta, Shadow Weaver, and Catra), and he was emotionally unstable as well as being focused mostly on leading his segment of the Horde and trying to develop a portal to return to his "brother" to prove himself. If anyone were going to ship Entrapta and Hordak I'd view them more as both being demipansexual autistics together given the fact neither were accepted or showed any outward sexual or romantic leanings (as far as I was aware)

While I'll admit Entrapta is good representation in many ways, her turn to the dark side always made me really really really really angry. It felt as if she threw away morality and simply did it for the sake of robotics. While I could be cool with an autistic villain only motivated by hanging out with people and building stuff, she is not portrayed that way. In my opinion she is portrayed as if she doesn't understand that creating killer drones to attack her old friends is wrong. This falls back on the stereotypes of autistic people being uncaring or even at 30 too childlike to understand right from wrong.

I think you misunderstood that aspect of her story. Entrants never turned evil, nor deliberately attacked others. What she did was focus on building robots and researching old tech and she was hyperfocused on this and was so unaware about social things like how this would affect her old friends. She never meant to hurt anyone and this shown near the end where she finally realizes how she came across and hurt her friends and does her best to make amends.

@@00metta00 I see your argument, but I would argue that Entrapta cannot claim to not be knowledgeable of what her machines were doing, because she watched them attack She-ra and her friends

@@00metta00 Plus, the other princesses were...how do I put It...kinda jerks to her, I don't really blame her for this. I mean, Hordak is the first person who ever aknowledged her skills with tech, and also viewed her as a full human being. (Not like those three loathsome princesses, and Catra)

Personally, i like that we can have a morally complicated autistic character.

i always loved her turn to the dark side. an autistic trait i have is seeing someone and going: "human is human" no matter how evil they may be.
entrapta just sees that everyone is just, a person that she would like to interact with. she genuienly believed that they left her behind, and that she was doing a good things. the other cast of the show treated her like a freaking dog so i dont really blame her for turning to the dark side.

Good Video! One thing I disagreed with was you thinking there is something wrong with her being a “mad scientists”. I loved that part of her, but that is most likely because I’m a woman on the spectrum who is very into STEM just like Entrapta. I respect your opinion though. :)

I made this video as a class assignment and one of our requirements was to critique some element of our chosen subject. I don’t agree with it either, but I had to come up with something😅
