Hans Zimmer actually used 6 bass trombones, 6 tenor trombones, 4 tubas in the middle and 6 French horns above. Check out the making of the score.
While I don't understand any of the musical terminology that's being said I can appreciate your knowledge and talent that clearly comes across in this video. Pretty sure I was just trying to find out what instrument makes that iconic Zimmer sound in his soundtracks and found this video. Cheers
I find trying to recreate parts of a score very helpful for learning new tricks about composition and instrumentation. Super good ear excercise as well!
I’m not sure whether to just be impressed or extremely envious :-) I’m very new to orchestration and trying to learn from all of you talented people. Thanks for such amazing videos you have such talent.
French horns can never achieve the strength of trumpets of trombones. In Mahlers 1st symphony finale 8 horns get the dynamic of 2 trumpets and 2 trombones.
@@kylejudkins754 What are you talking about? If they ever want to have their music played by a live orchestra, they better care! Certainly people who weren't trained formally like Hans Zimmer tend to have pretty basic/poor conceptions of orchestration, but any contemporary classical composer certainly needs to be an expert in all realms of writing and arranging! Any film composer worth his or her salt would also need to be well versed in balance and orchestration.
@@gtizzle101 I'm assuming he means that the 8 horns achieve the same dynamic level as the 2 trumpets and 2 trombones, like I stated earlier. OP may have to confirm though!
2:20 I suspect Hans didn't do that is because 5ths are "power chords" as used by heavy metal and hard rock. That's what's going on with this piece. It's literally metal music (brass) ;)
Love your channel bro love seeing brothas be in to film composition and orchestration. I thought I was the only one. I use Finale and Garritan library in VSL do you actually write every note in notation or is it more like FL studio?
I’d start with it, but I began with EW symphony orchestra silver. I have it now and ark 1 with all the articulations and stuff is just amazing. It sounds so good. But it’s true, you need some emotional strings too, my EW satisfies that. Cinematic strings is great too.
@@DeviNuski Kontakt player is the plugin - you're definitely going to want to invest in it sooner than later, as it supports NI instruments AND some incredible 3rd party plugins
weird how you say you don't know music theory in ALOT of your videos yet you clearly do. Why lie?. . . . or are you one of 'those' guys? Hope not 'cuz I enjoy your videos and philosophy
I will not proclaim I know something unless I'm very good at it. With theory, I'm aware of the meaning of scales, names of intervals, maj/min/aug/dim/sus triads, 7th chords and inversions and watched a few counterpoint videos. However, I am not actively thinking of those subjects while I compose, as I rely most on my ear. If you play one chord progression and you ask me which chords are being played, it'll take me a bit to figure that out. A master of theory will figure out instantly, will tell you what's the exact relationship between the chords, how you can make it better etc.
I had the Hans Zimmer Masterclass ad before the video started haha, so cool
This is amazing wtf you got alot of talent to do this by ear!

I think he may have meant that the tubas were seated in the middle, rather than strictly playing higher than the trombones.
If Spitfire Audio can make Hans Zimmer Brass, it will be possible.
This is great stuff, really awesome thank you!
Didn't expect to see you here lol. But yeah Alex's tutorials are super precise when it comes to cinematic stuff. He's a gem for us

'THE BRASS IS THE MAIN PROTAGONIST HERE'.
You sir, were ahead of your time.
Why is Samuel Umtiti composing music and not preparing for the Champions League??
lmaoo
Lol
hahaha
🤣🤣
Again with the Samuel Umtiti jokes? We had too much of them on Instagram, damn 😂😂😂
Interesting to see that HZ's music is in fact not superbly complicated if you break it down to particles. Thank you for this video. Very cool

5 minutes tutorials are the best! keep going, maestro!

Great video! There's one thing that's also really used by Hans Zimmer which really helps with creating walls of sound: synthesizers!
My favorite music of Alex Moukala is this one
ok you made this exactly ayear ago... i found it helpful... thanks alex
That sounds epic mate - awesome work
Great! 🤟🏻Nicely deconstructed. Something to try out 👍🏻
thank you!
God, those basses from Ark 1 are *_TASTY_* :O great one bro, I really enjoy these how-tos for a specific composer's style!
amazing video. succinct, useful and entertaining, thanks Alex !!
What a coincidence... Minutes before Alex uploaded this Brass topic, I was studying the brass in *Under a Burning Sky* (Shiro Sagisu/Shin Godzilla).
I love this tutorial. Nice cuts and straight to the point.
Quality video as always man!
That's a lot of layer...sounds amazing!
I have a request for brass.
Could you make a tutorial about how Zimmer made
"oil rig - man of steel"
This song contains good brass too
Incredible analyzation 🔥
Got Damn... ur good, no BS! I'ma watch everything you got bro. This is that other level I need in my arsenal... U good in a mufucr!!
French horns can never achieve the strength of trumpets of trombones. In Mahlers 1st symphony finale 8 horns get the dynamic of 2 trumpets and 2 trombones.
Yeah, from studying orchestration formally, I generally see people equate the sound of 2 horns to 1 trombone or 1 trumpet.
modern composers dont care lol

Hiya. Enjoyed this vid and learnt some thing from you so thank you for that
An “in 5 minutes” vid by Alex? What?? - Naaaah, not possible
Thank you very much Alex!
0:50 large brass sounds are made of multiple instruments even tho they seem like just a French horn or a single brass instrument
5:39 vsts
What u mean?
Great tips! I would use them in my next compositions, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Great, this is exactly what I was wondering about forever... I thought it was the French horn, but not exactly...
Exactly what I need.
Amazing Video, short and suer useful 👍👍👍

Two videos and I subbed
Please make "THE MOLE" by Hans Zimmer
thx so much
Nice. Thank you.
Great!! Thanks Alex👌💕
yo the way your ear is set up is crazy LMAO
Well done!!
Perfect
What plug in is he using for the orchestra sounds?
badass!
YES!! Thank u!

I think he recorded the brass in a room where they had a grand piano open as well. the brass made the piano strings vibrate
What library you are using?
It’s actually really simple
Is Metropolis Ark 1 alone enough to start with? Or do I need any other libraries?

Wait minute... that's totally note for note the music used for Batman v Superman. I knew people accused Zimmer of reusing music but damn.
Gimme that first :P
Best ever
I should still be able to follow along with this if I'm using Miroslav Philharmonik to some degree, yeah?
idk how to make brass this powerful
Buy a 549€ library
@@matteodaxxon5143 🤣
It’s a crazy little thing called reverb and echo.
When i will got that kind of brass and choir with 2GB ram laptop specs :)
Halusinasi.
Great work alex.
why did he say the basses play c 3 and c 4 but they played e flat 2 and 3 ?
What packs/plugins do you use for the brass?
He uses metropolis ark 1
French horn, tubas, cimbassi, trumpet, bass trombone

FL Studio

What about the cimbasso? That has that really "phat" punch from the trombone family.
I think when he talked about tuba he meant cimbasso
Damn
Why does it look so congested?
Can you share MIDI files for learning?
Just a little bit
You can download the Stems and MIDI of ALL my RUclips tracks here: www.patreon.com/alexmoukala/posts?tag=DOWNLOADS
Good stuff thank you, but could you speak slowly please and pay attention to small details, and who cares about "5 minutes tutorial?"
Wish I could afford Metropolis Ark.
