- Every year, billions of women continue a never-ending quest to lose weight and achieve the “perfect” physique. But this quest is a trap-one that keeps women sick, stressed, distracted, and depleted. To create a generation of healthy, strong women who are focused not on their body size but on solving real world problems, we must dismantle the harmful weight loss industry and the body-obsessed “diet culture” that this industry has spawned. Susan Hyatt is a master certified life and business coach who has helped thousands of women to transform their bodies and lives. Susan is the author of two books, Create Your Own Luck and BARE. Her work has been featured in places like O: The Oprah Magazine, Woman’s World, Cosmopolitan, and The Huffington Post. She’s the creator of The BARE Process, a trademarked system for upgrading your mental and physical health, building more energy and confidence, and creating the life that you want. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Brilliant! "When women diet the whole world loses!" Thank you Susan Hyatt
Didn't it occur to you, that she's clearly on a diet? Sweet lies for plebs as usual
diets don't work but a woman should care about her appearance. to say otherwise is a lie straight up
@@defaultworkouts Why should women have to care about her appearance when men can look like total slobs?
No woman is obligated to do what you say or want them to do. So stop the double standards.
@@WeatherMondacicci men are valued based on wealth and power and accomplishments. women are valued based on youth beauty and chastity. that's just how it is.

Put so well for such a short amount of time allotted to each talk! Thank you for sharing this important message 💛
Thank you!

You’ve only got ONE body...love it! Great message!
Love it enough to be healthy
ELL you can’t love it for long cause your gonna die of obesity
This is so true! Diet culture keeps women small!!!
Keeping small? what do you mean like being thin or normal weight?
Amazing message! Diet culture is slowing the progress of our world down! This is so important.
I think you mean obesity.
@@DavidJohnson-dp4vv I know this comment is pretty old, but I just wanna say diet culture is different from healthy eating
Lol😅😂
Love it! Absolutely brilliant!
In the end, it's all about money
Wow this was thoughtful and thought provoking.
Good on you Susan Hyatt! Great message!
Thank you Susan! Very important message for everyone! 👏👏👏
Giving well being precedence over cultural expectations of what you look like...yes! Love Philippa
YES SUSAN! Thank you for sharing this message
Awesome message!! Shared into my FB - I’d like to encourage others to share her talk also....Let’s make 2020 the year to end Diet Culture ☺️
Susan Hyatt is the truth!!! So fantastic!!! Made me teary.
An astronaut weighing their food and themselves isn’t the best analogy here. She didn’t think that one through!
😂😂😂😂
She was comparing that not because of the job, but the importance of the job. Women in the workplace have important jobs that we are not focused on because we’re so busy focusing on losing weight. How can we do our jobs as well if all of our energy and mind power is focused somewhere else?
Love yourself enough to be healthy.
Thank you for the work you do.
👏👏👏✌️👍😍
Diet culture vulture 😂
Everyone has a diet and should maintain a sustainable diet compared to their calorie expenditure. Starvation diets and fad diets are the real problem. Quick fix instant gratification culture is the bigger issue
Like how she acts like men don’t even exist or make a difference in the world
true. so many men suffer from diet culture. it's just that statistically women are more subject to negative body images, and are encouraged to go on dangerously restrictive diets and are congratulated when they look like a twig about to die off at any second. comparatively, most men are encouraged to look more muscular, stronger, bigger going on food choices that allow for a lot of good protein. not saying that bodybuilding can't create body dysmorphia and food restriction, but the intensity definitely varies.
@@saiyaara555 Also, woman will proudly tell you that they won't date men under a certain length.
Totally agree. Men also suffer with this now.
Lmfao what’s next? Drug addicts trying to say “sober culture?” 😂😂
what...?
@@smolbean9774 diet culture is a real problem.
It's just as bad as "junk food" culture in my opinion. I know she is not promoting unhealthy eating, but not every diet is bad. Not every restriction is bad. Sometimes we need to tell outselves "no more chocolate for today" or something like that right?
Every time you used a gender word, replace that with “people” or “they” and that would make this entire talk be more relatable to everyone.
As a man, I'm so glad that we don't have to grapple with any of this, and that we, as men, aren't as important as women
The people that give these talks are always slender. 🤔
I'm sure that you had good intentions but you can be both at the same time. You can be succesful and on a diet. Losing weight takes me only a bit of time and energy. Measuring food/calorie counting takes only a few minutes everyday. I make my meal plans every 3 days, creating one takes 10 minutes. Cooking takes more time but i would be doing that anyway if i didn't want to starve to death. Workout takes half an hour, and you don't need to do that everyday. So you still have a plenty of time and energy to pursue your other, more important goals.
It depends on the individuals mental health
Losing weight for your health and loosing weight to fit in are two very different things and we need to stop the cycle of losing weight to fit in.
@@PeteS_1994 the mental health isn’t going to matter if a persons heart gives out by the time they’re 45

I'm just wondering why is it always the normal weight people talking about these issues? Hmm. Interesting.
I think I just felt some brain cells die listening to this nonsense.
can you specify how this is nonsense? people are dying from anorexia and bulimia.
@@saiyaara555 much more People die from obesity
Check mate💅
@@milklover3158 so eating disorders are justified, according to your logic? it’s not a competition. obesity is another topic. being severely underweight is also deadly.
@@saiyaara555 You committed a logical fallacy.. and then you talk about logic.. lol.
He never said that eating disorders are justified. Obviously.
