On this episode of Beyond the Tide, Coyote and the crew search the seagrass fields of South Florida’s Biscayne Bay for spiky sea creatures!
With everything from Spiny Lobsters to the Porcupinefish there are many interesting sea animals just off shore that are armed with spiny protection.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center is dedicated to environmental education and the encouragement of better citizen participation in the protection of our natural environment.
The not-for-profit organization was started by Marjory Stoneman Douglas in 1985 when she was 95 years old. The programs started in 1969 as a summer camp program and in 1971 began as a year round school field trip program for 6th grade students by a group of Miami-Dade Public School teachers.
In 1985 Marjory was called upon to save the program from budget cuts and decided that children are the future stewards of our natural world and we should educate them about their natural environment. Key Biscayne was the perfect spot for that because we have all the Florida eco-systems right in one spot. The seagrass, the coastal
hardwood hammock, mangroves, dunes, and the fossilized mangrove reef.
She felt the community needed a "Nature Center by the Sea". As people explore nature, they will learn to preserve and protect what they love.

Did you guys notice the shark egg in the tank with the spiny lobster and pipefish? They are also called a mermaid's purse.

I think it was crab claw, all the shark eggs I have seen are black
The last few times I've gone in the ocean I've:
1: Been chased and attacked by a weird white and pink poka-dot crab
2: Been surrounded by jellyfish without knowing until it was too late
3: Been thrown around like a ragdoll by waves bigger than me and dislocated my jaw, that was a blast...
4: Seen a shark (which is pretty common but still a bit concerning considering someone was bitten the week before in the same area)
5: Saw a dead dolphin or shark or something with it's head bitten off wash up on the beach
6: Saw a whale, that was pretty awesome
7: Saw my dad ripped his bicep because a wave took him and his boogie board for one heck of a wild ride
8: Found an octopus in a huge shell, which decided to leave the shell and wrap himself around my leg before taking off
9: Saw pelicans ripping apart this beautiful angel fish we saw a few minutes beforehand
Last but not least!
10: got one of those burrowing crab things stuck in my shorts and tried to burrow in...places...
I don't know if I like going in the ocean anymore...

I live in Florida and go to the beach all the time and none of this has happened to me. I have been tumbled by waves but I'm used to it and do it on purpose and I have bumped into a shark before though but that's it
I like the way he educating his friends and also us, you're so friendly and knowing well. And also that puffer make me laugh coz she so cute :D

I visited the Nature Center maybe a week ago for a field trip! It was really cool actually, I met one of the people who was in the video. The guy with the brown ish blond ish hair, holding the sign with the lady. I dissected a squid XD

be careful if you handle cowfish in the future, when they get stressed they release toxins which can kill fish surrounding them, but also the stress can very easily kill them.

Coyote since you are such a animal fanatic please come to Australia. The Great Barrier Reef has tons of amazing species of fish, coral and the infamous Great White Shark. We also have amazing land animals like the kangaroo, koala, wallaby, wombat, dingo, Tasmanian devil and much more.
This is a porcupine puffer fish. They are extremely spiky. "Sticks his hand in the tank and picks it up" 🙄
Coyote mentioned in one of his videos that this year he is going to Australia! Don't know when though, but at least you'll see animals you're more familiar with and feel smart because you already know about them :33
