It's as good if not better than my Astor- Banks Fortitude and costs about £200 less. Great watches mate, and makes me wonder why we spend so much on timepieces that cost so much more (me included)
I own several low-tier San Martin watches and their quality is quite stunning. Their watches cannot be simply dismissed as "Chinese scrap". Good value for money instead.
I am also yet to be dissapointed with the quality of a watch from them. They are making some of the highest quality affordable watches, that's for sure
This is clearly a step up from all SM watches, in every aspect. Regarding the price complaint, I just checked yesterday and, after using a discount code from another RUclipsr, I was able to bring it down to $297. It is still much cheaper than any other brand using this movement and will probably be even cheaper in the 11.11 sale.
I absolutely agree, no complaint here regarding the spec sheet or value for money. My point comes to brand. You can get some serious watch brands with some serious history and heritage on wrist for this kind of price, is my point. The quality is unquestionable

I'm glad it's not just me that feels that way! Again, no complaint with quality. It's just that mental block! The more San Martin can deliver these beautiful designs, the easy it gets!

San Martin have done a really nice job here, simple and quite elegant. The dial is stunning, I think this watch would look great on a vintage black leather strap. Great review Kieron...passionate, informative and positive as the end links 😁 Cheers mate 👍
An absolute beauty! I've ordered the GMT in green. Has an NH53 heart but is stunning in spec and I really liked the numbers around the edge. San Martin are raising the game.
Good to know! All the ones I've had have been very accurate but it's hard to say with movements. Do they send me a good one for the review? Does everyone get the same treatment? Who knows.
I just cannot get behind the poor bracelet articulation. My CW Twelve has nice tight links, but they articulate enough so I can lay it flat on my nightstand. I’d have no reservations if I could option this with the SN0129-GC2 bracelet that also features the new clasp. Great review as always!
I get your point of view. It was nice to see something a bit different with regards to bracelet. I've had way too many 'oyster' style ones now 😂 I'm sure they'll keep evolving it
It is an improvement, but being hyped up a lot. They still need to improve the logo badge quality a tiny bit. Do San Martin live up to being rugged? You should torture test a few. I never bought one yet.
This is a beautiful and very well made watch. Finally San Martin are embracing the Miyota 9 series movement. And I get why they designed the bracelet the the way they did. But nonetheless there is something about I don't like about the bracelet. Perhaps it looks too much like an armour to me. I would prefer some airyness to the bracelet, perhaps something like a j-style. Would you say Tudor watches look less premium because they use female end links?
I get your point about the 'armour' look. No gaps always looks a bit strange on a bracelet. It makes for one epic wrist roll though! Regarding Tudor, kind of. They're obviously a very well made bracelet so you can see the quality. But I think they'd look better as a positive link!
I don't agree that we are conditioned into expecting cheaper watches from China, I had no trouble when it came to ordering this particular watch, I purchased it on pre order without the privilege of seeing a review .

It's a beautiful piece of watch. I was THIS close to buying one, but some pressing matters came up. Don't know why, but it reminds me of Casio Oceanus T200. Indexes, bezel shape and the fact that, with dial, they fill the whole space. Lugs shape and their size in proportion to dial. To me, the overall look of SN0144 straight up brings T200 to mind, but the details on the other hand differentiate them - oceanus is more angular, hands are in the shape of fence posts, indexes are receded between minute markers, are blocky and have almost no lume. And yet... So similar, but so vastly different.
I’m torn on this one because I love the design and finishing but hate how it has male end links along with a case that is straight across and doesn’t turn down very much. The clasp also looks pretty chunky for this type of watch.
What's your wrist size? Because if it's the same as mine or larger, the end links aren't an issue. Clasp is a bit big but it has that awesome spring loaded system, so I'll never complain about the size. (unless it's stupidly big of course)
They might be pricing themselves out of their niche with such releases. I can get a nice Mido watch with a COSC certified chronometer movement for $450 from a gray market seller.
That's exactly my point. You can get some proper watches for this kind of price. Not everyone wants immaculate finishing... Sometimes a good brand name with a Swiss Automatic is more desirable.
Nice review! And this is the first one for the red dial version that I've seen. I also like red dials, but the pattern in the blue one (which is also very nice) stands out much more, so I'm torn between the two. Also, right now, there are some $40 discount codes, so with them and the store codes the price drops down to about $300. I really can't decide if this is the right moment to buy, or if I should wait for the 11.11. sale. The $40 coupons will expire by then, and I am not sure whether the sale prices will be better since this is a new watch and I don't expect it to be discounted heavily. Any thoughts on that?
It's hard to say really, it's impossible to predict AliExpress prices. Logic tells you that the watch gets cheaper the longer you wait, no? That's my experience with most of them anyway. But I'm not an avid AliExpress shopper so what do I know 😅
@@TopTierTicker I also wanted to ask you about the bracelet - did you have any problems with hair pulling? I am worried that since the links are so tight, if any hairs get between them, the links would be like tweezers 😄

I honestly don't understand the fuss about this watch... Like, yeah, miyota 9 series, nice dial, but SM has over very nice and even better watches, in my opinion. Perhaps it's just my taste, but I don't like the combination of this case shape, bezel, and crown. Feels like something is lacking. I think your opinion on the price is a little bit laughable LOL even at 360 it's a great price for what you get and still less then watches who have way worse quality and are more expensive than this one. You think they're just going to keep upgrading and the price is going to get cheaper? You've completely missed the point. I didn't say that the watch is overpriced or poor quality. Simply that it's a high price tag for an AliExpress watch. I even end the video by saying it's worth the money. Come on, listen!

“Which to me has to be perfect”…dude the watch cost under $400 in 2024 that is not a lot of money. Beautiful watch but expecting perfection at < $400 price point is unrealistic.
That statement wasn't meant to be taken literally. It's that old chestnut of heritage vs value. The value has to deliver highly to outperform the heritage.

"positive end-links" ??? you mean MALE? As -because they protrude? In opposite to FEMALE end-links? As for "we are conditioned to pay less for Chinese products". Let me remind you (or inform you, as you seem to be quite young and you might not remember) - we were saying the same about "made in Japan" products. I guess, watches follow the same pattern as guitars and all other goods. First they are produced close to the shore. Cheap as dirt. After a while, workers are getting better, standards increase, so does the quality and the prices follow. So then another factory pops up further inland, new workers, low standards, low prices... Rinse and repeat. In the world of guitars, "made in China" means nothing any more. You check which factory produced it, and that's an indicator of quality. I guess we'll have the same with watches. Pagani prefers to stamp out watches quickly, keeping the prices low, but they won't be able to keep it for very long. Cronos and San Martin decided to escape forward, and I have to commend them for that.
What is with this wild rant? I love that he’s calling it a positive end-link. Much better than male/female. I absolutely applaud his willingness to grow and learn. We should adopt this language industry-wide.
@ytfeelslikenorthkorea I really feel sorry for u if this was ur biggest takeaway from this video. Of all the things to complain about, lol. I picture a sad little man too fat to leave the house in his dirty sweatpants typing furiously away at his computer about what the use of male or positive end links really, really no wait, really?
I call them positive and negative end links... It's not that deep. I find it weird to asign a gender to a piece of metal. Makes absolutely zero sense. Positive = more than. Negative = less than. Much more logical. Regarding your other comments... I'm struggling to see the point you're trying to make. I'm not disagreeing with you that Chinese watchmaking is on the up, I literally mention that just a couple of sentences after the 'conditioned' one. What are you trying to say here?
We're not conditioned to expect low prices from Chinese manufacturers: we're conditioned to expect overpriced products from the mainstream brands.

@@jaredstephenson6468 "grow and learn"? No wonder this country is going to sh... if that's the standards of "growth"
@@ytfeelslikenorthkorea thanks for reminding me that I haven’t taken my medication today either.
